Thanks for the video, pretty comprehensive test, subbed. It would have been cool to see if there is a low voltage cut-off on the battery, independent of the inverter. Also, an over amperage cut off test would have been cool to see. Thanks for the test. BTW I bought one on Prime day, with a targeted discount for using Discover points, for $165.

So to use my 48 V system I would need 2 of these 24V batteries. I get that. But with 8-6V batteries that are 400AHr each I have 19,200 watts. 6Vx400AHr =2400 watts x8= 19,200. So if I use 2 of these batteries in the video I would have 24Vx100AHr=2400 watts. so I would need 8 of these in 4 strings. So the question would be how would I hook that up so I am getting 1 hot and 1 neg to my inverter/charger? Thank you
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD 3 күн бұрын
Correct 2 batteries in series for 48V 6V@400Ah X 8 batteries is 48V@400Ah. 48x400Ah=19.2kWh with 50%DOD for lead is only 9.6kWh usable daily for longer service. The lithium in the video 25.6V@100Ah (2.56kWh) X 2 in series is 51.2V@100Ah (5.12kWh) 4 of these 2S x 2P is 10.24kWh more than your current “theoretical safe 50%” daily discharge. 8 would equal more than your lead acid nameplate capacity but with 100% available capacity and part state of charge capability. You’ll have to add in a bus bar setup and I recommend overcurrent protection device for each series set of batteries. Connect battery to OCPD, then to positive bus. Positive bus bar has its own OCPD between it and the inverter rated for your inverter and wire. Negative goes to bus from each battery then bus bar to negative inverter. All chargers would tie to bus bars with OCPD as well. This is the quick course lol.
@consco3667
@consco3667 3 күн бұрын
@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD you have no idea how much I appreciate this. A negative bud bar would just be a copper bar with standoffs. What would a positive bus bar be? Seems it would have to be protected physically somehow unless I am missing something? Any particular brands/suppliers you recommend? Using only 4 of these at $1200 would be cheaper than 1 of the SOK brand batteries I caught up on a few of your videos today. Also shared with a friend…

If you're going to make a 48v system, why not go with their 12v 100ah batteries that are actually cheaper per wh? Advantage I see is that if one of these cheap batteries crap out, you can replace a single 12v for half of a 24v.

I have plenty of 4x12 setups. This requires a balancer $70. More wire and terminals for a 4 unit series connection $30. Only time I’ve had a 4x12 pack stay close without a balancer over time is sequential serial number units. You are correct a 4x12 has lower cost from a replacement aspect if battery fails in the string. But that’s only 1.28kWh. So half price of a 2.56 kWh (24V) battery! Or one could keep a spare BMS for $50 and be back up quickly. During warranty period this isn’t a concern.

I wanted to try something different on this test , I couldn’t risk damaging the battery by opening it due to wanting a long term daily cycling test for these models! With a mini, most often the case has to be destroyed to get to the sensors! The ones I do cut open, I always use an ice pack first before resorting to anything colder. Most of the proper program BMS drop with a regular ice pack. The ones programmed wrong take the colder stuff to make them trip!

@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD 5 күн бұрын
Thanks for the subscription! Awesome that you are off grid! I’ll give you a condensed answer here, but I’ll make a video for you coming up to explain better! In a series set of 4x12 for 48v over time the voltage between each individual battery can stray away from each other, this can be from variance in cell resistance, and other factors. Eventually they can get so far out of balance capacity is diminished. The balancer keeps each battery at same voltage by taking energy from higher battery and putting to lower voltage battery/batteries in the string. This way each is at same SOC and one battery won’t reach low voltage cutoff or high voltage cutoff before the others! Hope this helps!

@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD so for my 48V system, I have 8-6Volt 400 Amp hr Fullriver AGM batteries. Would a balancer be beneficial? What brand should I look at? At some point in the next 3 ish years I will want to replace these batteries with LiFePo’s. I see where the expensive SOK batteries last for 10-20 years. Mine are indoors and never get cold or hot. But these that you are showing are a fraction of the price. How long should they last? Thank you for the responses. Love your channel. I will be viewing some past videos to play catch up.
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD 5 күн бұрын
You can take a voltmeter and check each individual battery. If voltage is off by more than 0.25 you may want a balancer. Since it’s lead, your going to be absorb charging and occasionally equalize charging which is different than lifepo4. You may be ok! The LiTime balancers are good, they make a faint noise, the POWMr work good too make more heat than LiTime. Of course there are more expensive options Victron, Sterling etc. All my series packs stay between .00 to .02V apart using both The cells in LiFePO4 if true Grade A will last decades. Some studies have found 40000 cycles. The BMS is what will go. Most manufacturers estimate 10Yrs on a BMS. Lots of variables. There are quality and affordable units out there that sometimes deliver better performance than expensive units. Probably get double or triple the capacity for same $ with something like the XZNY. Glad you like the channel! I’m glad another off-gridder is here! Awesome!

Glad to see you back sir! Was thinking about you the other day. Hard to do anything without google accounts nowadays! As for your PV, that depends on what you’re wanting to achieve, if I remember correctly your system is grid tie no battery. So you would have to think in terms of investment. Is it worth the $ for panels to offset usage or get some payback from utilities depending on your metering agreement. OFF GRID, it’s a different matter. If you’re weren’t keeping up with loads and getting batteries charged it definitely would be good to upgrade. Good to see you back in the comments! @@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD I am still grid tie only but come tax time next year I'll have my initial install paid off and will be looking to add batteries to the system. The main reason I asked though was because they sized my system for yearly average use so it never seems to be enough to break even in the summer or winter months. Though I'll have to see what happens with the batteries first I may look into either more panels or higher wattage ones. Once I get the batteries done I wanna put in a garage and MAY put solar panels on that roof as well later on. Not for running the garage specifically but for adding power to the entire system. But that's a bridge to cross in another lifetime as of right now. Also my potatoes failed again this year... did 20gal grow bags with windows on the side and they did the same thing they did last year where they came up, looked good for like 3 months and then died... dug them up and got 2 tater tots out of 7 seed potatoes. All 105.7Ah unless the hidden one wasn't like the others...which I doubt if 3 of them were within 88mAh of each other. The welding of the bus bars explains why another KZfaqr was abe to pull 300+ amps out of this thing. These EVE cells are rated for 2C IIRC but with huge bus bars like that and massive welds...voltage drop will be minimal.

Phillip, I definitely will do a dedicated charging video! Solar charge is preferable because it’s free! But yes I’ll go over some AC powered chargers for these batteries and what voltages and procedures to use! Great suggestion, thank you my friend!

I’m torn about giving them more airtime but if it will help you, I’ll be glad to test it out! I’ll include it in an upcoming video for you!

@@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD. Thanks a million:). I live up in Minnesota and looking to power up my shed and this was one of the least expensive self heating batteries available. I was thinking about getting 4 of them. Really appreciate you replying!

You’re most welcome! I’ve got 2 batteries on the test bench at the moment. Might be a week or so before I get to the Vatrer! I’ll also discuss some other generic battery heating options for you during the Vatrer video! Glad to be able to help my viewers! Thanks!

Yes they do hold a little more gravel than a BFG AT style but Wrangler has more of a mud terrain heritage so the wider lug spacing tends to pick up some gravels

I’m in contact with Sigineer, Sungold, and Aims on their 240V split phase models. Sigineer has some nice options coming late summer. I’m going low frequency with this build regardless of brand!

I try to get 2 to 3 videos out per week depending on work schedules! Content has shifted to more of the solar and energy storage topics since starting! Fun to test all the different options out and try to find best products for everyone!
