This is a review of the Platinum Izumo Akatame, which is a dark red urushi pen on ebonite body with gold M nib.
There seems to be an issue with comments being auto-removed which is outside of my control, I can see them as notifications but they do not appear in the comments section. They have been very nice and are appreciated!

Well done. This is the best review of this pen I have seen. I appreciated your views of the size of the nib which has always put me off. I have a Platinum President and wondered quite why Platinum had not introduced a larger nib on the this amazing pen. I am now going to have to go away and think again, not least because this is pretty much at the maximum price point I am able to reach - Nakaya's being a bit beyond me. Thank you - I look forward to your next review. Your footage of the pen really is stunning

Man this is such a gorgeous pen, I absolutely love the shape that's not just the usual "torpedo" we see from other manufacturers. Something that's quite interesting about Platinum is that they sell an adapter for their cartridge/converter pens to accept standard international cartridges and converters. Would be interesting to know if the Izumo is large enough to fit one of the big international cartridges or converters.

Agree that it is such a lovely shape :) I've not tried the adapter though

One of my first reviews, before I had any idea I'd be able to review around 70 Namikis. Lovely pen and the start of my journey into the world of Japanese urushi pens.

Thanks for the awesome Review! This is the first video that actually shows the colour, can't believe you don't have more subscribers. Super high production quality! Edit: Is the section made of Ebonite or is it resin?

Thank you! Well I've only just got started here but am about to start getting really interesting content on here regularly. The section is ebonite as well, getting the colours right was reasonably tricky and relied on the background being dark enough to bring them out.

Regarding it's price... for a pen with both ebonite and urushi lacquer, it's actually quite cheap! Take the Pilot Custom Urushi, or the Sailor King of Pen Ebonite. Those pens are holy grain pens. It has a decent weight, a decent hand-feel, and decent writing experience. My only gripe with it is that the grip section is a little uncomfortable for me because I have fairly large hands.

Agree, I think for the quality of the urushi work on it, the price is right, and kept down by the smaller nib.

Thanks for the review! I have an Izumo Soratame that I think is gorgeous. I'm not a fan of the feedback though. How about a review of the Pilot Custom Black Stripe from the 1970s! It's my favorite pen and I see very few reviews of it. Its nib is spectacular; a lovely 18k white gold inlaid nib. Thanks for sharing the review!

Welcome, the feedback is certainly very different, I'm happy to have one pen writing this way. I've a Nakaya on order which I've requested soft-medium nib and a bit smoother otherwise it will feel near-identical to the Izumo. If I can get my hands on a Black Stripe I'll be sure to review it, at the moment I'm aiming to review another Namiki Emperor soon which someone is going to lend me.

I found my Izumo initially uncomfortable to hold, but that' was mostly because I was gripping it tightly out of sheer terror at the thought of dropping it.

Yes, same with me, I still find myself gripping too tight sometimes on my pens :)

Beautiful product show! Love the color. Is this the same as a PL-55000-28 because that one looks more mat on the pictures lacouronneducomte sells them. If it is the same i might order one. Amazing shape also.

Yes, some of the pictures on the net look quite matte, certainly the ones I've seen are glossy (as they should be) and are actually quite hard to photograph in matte style. Usually an urushi pen that has lost its shine is a sign of UV light exposure, generally found in older pens.

Do you know if there is a substantive difference between the nib on this pen vs. the Platinum Century 3776? I love that pen in F and it’s perfect for note taking, but I’ve never used a Presidential nib. Thank you!
@JapansPerfectPens
@JapansPerfectPens 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, I believe the century 3776 is slightly larger, and one of the more common questions around the Izumo is why this large pen doesn't have the 3776 nib accompanying it.
@TINGSTARR
@TINGSTARR 2 жыл бұрын
While the 3776 nib is just slightly larger than that of the President, the former is 14kt, while the latter is 18kt. Hope that adds value to this thread. Cheers.

Your Pilot Aka Tamenuri is a lot more dark, almost black compared to my Aka Tamenuri Nakaya pen. What is the difference exactly?
@JapansPerfectPens
@JapansPerfectPens 3 жыл бұрын
Nakaya use Aka Tamenuri to describe a much lighter shade, and would call this one Kuro Tamenuri. I noticed the same thing a few years ago and it's a little interesting given they are affiliated companies.
