Phenomenal skiing by three of my favorite skiers. Other kids had posters of rock bands or supermodels on their wall, I had you three!

This video is wonderful! For years, I've searched for a demonstration of good form doing ordinary skiing on everyday slopes; but all I've been able to find, until now, were instructional videos with very little demonstration, or demonstrative videos of folks jumping off cliffs and doing things that I will never do or learn much from. But now, there's this wonderful demo, which I will watch again and again, learning every time. Thank you, Deb!

I was at Sun Valley many years ago skiing by myself and one powder day and I kept seeing this couple emerging from the trees covered with snow. Obviously they a) knew where the untracked stuff was and, b) knew how to ski it. It was one of those days back when the Sun Valley folks resisted skiing without the "sun" so the hill was empty. I started discretely following them and finally got the nerve up to hop on an empty seat with them on the lift. After a little small talk I asked them if I could tag along since they seemed to know where the stashes were. The response from both of them was just a long stare that was either saying "no" or "if you can".... We skied probably ten runs together and I remember being deeply impressed with their skill - specially hers. That evening I ran into local Sun Valley friend and mentioned my encounter and he asked their names and all I could recall was that her first name was Christin. He chuckled and told me I had been skiing with Christin Cooper, one of the best skiers in the world!

Beautiful athletic skiers. I’ve always loved watching birds fly and soar. I think all adventurous folks have yearned to be able to fly like a bird. Then it hit me one day in late fall waiting for the snow to arrive. Great skiers do fly. Do soar. Much like barn swallows - the gregarious mini fighter pilots of the avian world (slalom, moguls). The Cooper’s hawk (GS, Super G). The Peregrine (Downhill). The harrier (skiing deep pow). We love that feeling of gliding through time and space in beautiful mountain environs. So much so that while other athletes drop out of their sports in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, we continue. We have no choice.

That is an absolutely Beautiful description of skiing. I have always compared skiing to flying and gliding. The feeling of making a nice set of carved turns over undulating terrain and even catching those jumps landing them then continuing linking run after run is un comparable to anything. I seek to share that with everyone that I can. I was once an instructor and have learned so much from Debs videos about my own skiing and how to improve it but how to get back into the instructor mindset when I am teaching people. In the words of the great Warren Miller. "If you don't do it this year you'll be one year older when you do." We just have to. Thank you for a beautiful and inspirational comment. To Ski is to Live.

I love all of Deb’s videos but this one brings me back to the 1980 Olympics. My Dad was Chief of Communications and I was an usher for the ice hockey/figure skating events. I was in awe of Cindy Nelson and ended up seeing her at the athlete’s Olympic Village. She was gracious and kind. I still have the autograph! Seeing all 3 of you together is incredible! Beautiful skiers! And thanks for the mogul videos Deb. I’d sit in the parking lot at Park City waiting for the hill to open, watch your mogul videos, and then go tackle the mountain!! You rock!

+1 for M Taylor, I've been to Park City for a week it was probably 1998 , so much snow they shut the airport on presidents day, my wife and I had to hitch hike out of Snowbird as an avalanche closed the road. We got a lift all the way back to Park City from a couple of lads in a pickup truck, they went miles out of their way for us. Big thanks if they ever read this.

Absolutely love the fast short swing ( radius) turn style used in this video. You can take the world class ski racers off the race course but they still have that dynamic skiing skill set in their free skiing. We usually only see Deb skiing for teaching videos. In this video we got to see what it looks like when she and her Olympic ski team friends really let the turns Rip at full speed ⛷⛷⛷

Beautiful skiing, ladies!!! Nothing like skiing w friends, but this brings it to a whole different level! Still, just the joy of skiing. Makes me remember a some great days I had at Aspen Snowmass three years ago skiing w friends and helping w the World Cup Finals. I'm not an Olympic athlete, but I sure admire you people, and I do share the pure joy of skiing. It never gets old. Thanks also for all the educational and training videos, Deb! I get a lot out of them.

@@TonyEarlsTrinityLawns Hi, Tony. Yeah, it totally does lift my spirits. Hopefully, we will be able to take part in this joy again in real life after the pandemic is overcome. Meanwhile, praying for everyone, and trying to do some other outdoor activities while following our social distancing norms. So far we are not at total "house arrest" where I live, and I can get outdoors while staying away from others. Spring is very beautiful.

@Deb - I'm a CDN ex-alpine from same era; I have a tech question for you. First though, what an absolute joy to watch a group of former Olympian women racers freeskiing. Thank you. We were encouraged to use longer poles (especially for SL) than the traditional "elbow right angle" rule from the shops. I believe it was Joubert who said a SL pole should come up to the "bread basket" or solar plexus, so that was that as far my coach was concerned. Old habits die hard, and as I was renewing CSIA IV a few years back, was encouraged to cut my poles significantly. I was skeptical at first, as my MA starts with ski performance and then works up to "hands" etc. Anyway, I was actually shocked at what a difference this suggestion made. It appears to me that you and Coop have relatively shorter poles than Cindy, especially visible around 1:30+ in the video. Have you made any adjustments in pole length over time, and if so, have you noticed any appreciable difference in your skiing?
@nataliequinton59764 жыл бұрын

As a kid in the 70's my dad and I stayed in a cabin just down the trail along the Wood River from the Cooper sisters. They were great fun and as I recall, they had a BIG crystal ball. They told me that a witch lived in a cave on Bald Mountain and looked for her crystal ball at night. They had me so scared I wouldn't ever leave the cabin at night. Great memories, even our out-house! Anyone from the Wood River Valley in the 70's remember the town's talking crow "Jim Crow"?

That crow would have some explaining to do these days. Wouldn't want to be him...
