Great job as usual Brian! These lessons are why I’m an Active Melody member...oh, I love BB too! In my opinion he is probably the most influential guitarist ( and musician) in the blues rock genre ever. This lesson is very well articulated and yes, a lightbulb has been turned on for me! Thanks for this one Brian!

There are DOZENS , maybe hundreds , of really good guitar teachers on KZfaq - but only a handful like you , my friend !! You have all the great feel and technique that makes you a master , but what sets you apart is your humility , your easy to understand lessons , slow , clear video editing and most of all , your joy of teaching others out of the pure love of guitar music. Combine that with the desire to better others - so they can enjoy the satisfaction of being able to have fun playing cool-sounding stuff - WITHOUT months of boring theory or mundane exercises !! You do have great classes for that as well , for those seeking professional-level playing , but you are in a class of precious few that are humble and truly enjoy getting others learning to play cool-sounding stuff right away. Thanks for what you do !!

What an awesome tutorial! I'm one of those 40 something guitar players that has been in "campfire song" limbo for the past 15 years. This has helped more than anything I've ever tried! You're a great teacher! I won't be frontman for Double Trouble anytime soon but I can FINALLY freestyle on the neck a bit thanks to you!

And I say that we could all bet our guitars , the man wasn't thinking about major ,minor pentatonic scales notes when he was jamming the blues. Only our man Brian is trying to confuse everyone with music theory , hehehe. Knowing scales patterns is very important but don't matter much when you explain BB King licks. Clever work there, Brian.
@abrigospardos
@abrigospardos 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexgrecu4395 You're definitely on to something there. He knew his minor and major thirds, and his fifths and his sevenths, and of course enjoyed going back to the tonic a lot. But he was probably thinking about notes which sounded good and he could use (whether or not they were part of the scale) as opposed to notes which didn't. There is a lot of chromaticism in his playing too.

I’ve seen videos on the BB Box before, but this is the best one yet because of the way you blend minor and major with the licks and still keep within the context of the backing track. Makes it much more ‘musical’ and has made me feel more confident to try when improvising myself.

Wow! What an absolutely inspirational tutorial! I have been stuck in panic mode and straight to pentatonic box 1 for about 5 years now but have just sat for an hour jamming around with all these shapes and, although I say it myself, my ideas and solos sound so much more interesting now. Thank you so much for showing us how to join those three shapes in such an informative and clear way. My wife even just said it sounds so much better than what I was doing before after just an hour. Brilliant!

This was an excellent lesson and explained a lot of the nuances of the BBK zone. Thanks Brian. Here is a tiny detail regarding how the BBK zone relates to the CAGED system. When moving to the 8th fret position (minor pentatonic, position 2), and your 3rd finger is on the A (second string,10th fret), you have moved into the D-shape of CAGED. Since this position is minor, you can see the open position D-minor shape in the scale tones.

It’s so simplistic, but so nuanced at the same time. it was great how you broke it down since I’m good as seeing patterns as well. I actually play with inverted strings like Albert King or Eric Gales, so I need it broken down like this so I can develop my own approach to it 🙏
