Welcome to Local Game Group! Today we'll be discussing Luffy or ST13-003 from Starter 13 Ultra Deck: The Three Brothers! BY Luffy is an absolute MONSTER, but as with any deck has its downfalls. Namely, if Luffy doesn't find his brother - and this is the exact strategy you want to deploy - he'll brick (fail) when it comes to combat/exchanges. Beyond the searchers you'll typically run, Starter Luffy wants to run as much draw as possible to mitigate the potential of not finding Ace or Sabo (and himself). This deck doesn't deviate too far from the typical formula, but this deck tech should hopefully arm you with the knowledge to play BY Luffy to the utmost. Thanks for watching, nakama!

Thanks 🙏 I appreciate that, haha. I have a Kyro’s build to showcase next, but wanted to cover Luffy as I’ve been playing a lot of him myself recently. The deck is vicious. I always pray to the rng gods before each match, but with any luck you should be swinging with multiple 9K turns! Or 11K showcased here 👀 Have yet to hit the mythic, 13King of the Pirates turn, but I will one day, haha.

I'm maining BY Luffy, topped at 3 tournments since EB01, tbh i prefer constistency on the deck. i cut on the shirahoshi and the ivankov, instead i have 4 makino and the remaining 1 cost search event. The turns just usually go: 1st: searcher 2nd: 3 don on searcher, 5k with it and 5k with leader (6k going second) 3rd: swing 5k (6k if going second) or play another searcher and play a big bro rest of the turns go for the combo pieces. Its a really fun deck and really strong, punishes you hard when you make bad choices, but what i really like with the deck is how original you can be in the mid game

I've been trying a few variations on the build... My current one closests to this is off Iva. It's saved me in many situations, but is more often a 1Kc (pending matchups). Haha, one I'm exploring and enjoying is a package that's Brotherless* - okay, I kept the Sabos, but... - it's Wano, with a splash of solid tech cards, namely Viola. It's win rate is high because folks tend to steer clear of doing the damage for you (to get you to 0), which is a detriment when you're only using Luffy as a "Gain 2 Life" Leader. The Viola's off Gecko Moria and throughout the game just mean consistent *draw.* In no way do I think this is the correct build, but I've been having so much fun with it. Also, folks just do not expect it... I may make a video to share the general strategy. Just having a Leader that gains you two life is insane, apart from it being an amazing setup Leader for Brother combo.

Genuinely I’d say play 12 2ks it’s genuinely so good makino I will agree isn’t that great but she’s still good. shirahoshi honestly isn’t the best if you aren’t playing ivonkov and or 2 drop violet just honestly the more blocker heavy list isn’t that great and if you play more blockers I’d say it’s got to be borsalinos at least which honestly isn’t the best but idk that just my two cents

I love Viola in the list… She adds a different dynamic to the deck in the late game, letting you replay cards or regain counter power. This deck behaves well without the 2Kc count at 12x, but I could definitely see playing in that 10-12x range! Makino is still fine, haha. I’ve been playing a variant that jams 4x Viola’s and the deck feels completely different when the option of 8c GM is expanded by having her in the grave. Anyways, thanks for the input! I played in a recent Treasure Cup with this and did great, beating out Saka’s, Kata’s, and losing to a Bege off the top of an Enel list 🙄… Haha, all good though! Feel free to post your version of the list here, be curious to see it.

How does this deck build compare to the more common builds of the deck without Ivan and shira? It seems the common builds have been winning more but this build seems very safe and maybe a little more fuller

I feel the added draw potential helps, but this game is pretty rng heavy (particularly with yellow). Ultimately the issue with BY Luffy is it runs out of hand very quickly and requires you to be fairly greedy with your discards (holding Gecko Moria's instead of counter power). I'm definitely not the best player, but I do believe there's something to be said about card advantage in this game. Shira helps a lot in that department. Iva feels better in the latter half of the game, setting up life off of upturned cards instead of trashing them flat out. I'll say, I've done a few BY Luffy's - to include Brotherless builds 👀 - and even this current version has evolved a bit. However, that's for a later video.

Hi I've really enjoyed the content. So I have one question about Ivankov / Shiraoshi combo, I really like to place Shirahoshi on top of my life to make the trigger boost my card draw but as you know sometimes opponents are not really going to swing at your life, especially knowing that there is a Shiraoshi there. By my side I've experienced that this can get me stuck on other plays, for example if I play a ySabo or 5c Luffy to take my own life with Shirahoshi still there, I am going totally waste her and the previous 3 don's turn with Ivankov. Sure we still have a blocker on field but I feel that if things go this way we didn't make the best play. Am I missing something? How you manage this kind of scenario? Thank you again for the video, it was helpful overall.

If they’re reluctant to swing, there’s a few things you can do, but the way I see it is: we’ve effectively frozen their board like an Arlong or Doflamingo. Hitting a Shirahoshi was scary enough for them *not to attack?* Perfect. Build out your board the old fashioned way and Don!! the hell outta Luffy and smack them; use Hiyori to move the bottom out and put another on top (Ace, another Shirahoshi, etc), this will make them want in; work their board as they try to work yours… Luffy’s playing with 5c, 6-to-7K’s and Gecko Moria’s: in other words, a bunch of big boys. If they don’t wanna play, knock them out, haha. Trust me, they’ll let you draw eventually. However, I’d recommend you build out your board and let them end the stalemate first. We still want 0 Life. After that, crack back at their board with Luffy effect and the Characters we built out, then start working their life. Here’s another way to look at it: when I play a Blocker sideways off of Gecko Moria or Rebecca (not in the list) and my opponent attacks and kills it, guess what? It’s effectively a blocker. If Ivankov gets converted into an Arlong as a freeze on all their attacks, I think we just made one play into a much better one.

You mentioned drawing 1 of the 10 cards turn 1 you want is 1 in 5 (cos 10/50). It's actually 68.9% of drawing 1 or more of them in a 5 card opening hand. With the mulligan, the chances of seeing at least 1 in at least 1 of those hands is about 91%

Hey! Thank you 🙏 So... I haven't attempted Ace 👀 No clean advice, other than you should run a handful of top deck manipulator/blockers. Brothers is a large part of his strategy too, so it's a fun deck to get into as most of the package is in that starter! If I do make a build, I'll share here.

Honestly though, I like some of the discussion here but I would recommend perona at 1 or possibly (figure out a decent cut) 2...I do this for problematic 8c bodies cause what I am able to do is turn prior keep a 2 life yellow sabo in my life area to start my turn...gecko for a kid sabo and perona, perona -3 cost of the 8c or lower and use sabo to up luffy to 7 and trash the other card. then 2 don to luffy to add 2 to life to set up the next turn. I run 10-12 2000 counters so that i get more time to survive these turns.

Assuming they have 5 cards in hand, yeah. I used Perona for a bit and found it missed more often than hit (when it was needed), particularly if you’re beating your opponent down consistently… One of the reasons I liked Kalifa, for consistency, but not quite the same lvl reduction. 8c Kid can be a pest though. Like any deck/build, there are match dependent pros/cons. I’m curious, what count do you have your 5c Y Sabo at?

@@LocalGameGroup I used 1 perona, 2 yellow sabo, 4 black, 4 of all bros. Not using shirahoshi, use 2 thunderbolts as well. 4 making as well over ivankov

I like the Thunderbolts here (used them in a previous build), helps with the KO count. One inclusion someone mentioned in the comments I like is Raigo: I think that’s the perfect answer to some bigger threats without the need of multiple cards/play lines. Even at 6c, it feels a decent include at potentially 2x.

@@LocalGameGroup I tried it as well at 2 but the problem was seeing it at the wrong time. The nice things about running multiple cards is that they are counters you can get them to the trash very easy and are replayable and can be used with different combos. 5c sabo, thunderbolt. with the 6 option, when i did draw it, I would play it, have to use 2 don to keep alive with luffy, and leaving 2 don for 1 child bro that occasionally is very hard to keep in hand sometimes. But I agree, it used much fewer cards in hand.

Tried this variation of the deck and I gotta say it’s pretty solid, the draw power makes a 4th gecko kinda redundant, and are the luffy cards that necessary?

Sadly, yeah. Luffy helps with consistency. Folks seem to move away from ST13 5c Luffy to OP07 Y Luffy as soon as that set hits. It’s a more meaningful play in most cases - especially in OP07 matchups with the high curve of 4c Characters - but we just need to hit the 7K, 9K, 11k*(+) plays. It’s all about redundancy. If we removed it, we only have 8x Kids VS 12x Kids to play with. Same goes for 8c GM, you can reduce to three, but I’d really only for another card quality/draw effect. You really need to hit him every game and multiple times.

Which 2Kc’s? 👀 Don’t you dare say Maki-… Just no (I totally get Makino, haha). The Raigo an interesting tech choice though! You ripping that as early as T3 or waiting on it? I like that it clears anything, which is crucial sometimes.

@@LocalGameGroup most players who know the match up simply dont attack you at all so having 4 of the makino to help take your life is needed. as well as if they katakuri a searcher or gecko to your life you wanna be able to remove it for cheap

@@thesandwichartist9876 Yeah, I don't mind that they don't attack me all too much, haha. I played in a recent Treasure Cup, had to cut early, but matchups I won were against Enel, Sakazuki, RP Law, and Katakuri. Thing is, they have to hit you eventually, but between Iva, 5c Sabo, Hiyori (setups), Flampe, Gecko (setups), you'll carve through your life at your own leisure working boards/life. It can be a detriment sometimes if they overrun you, but it's not always the best plan of attack... Not to attack. Only issue I've found is the lack of hard removal for this list.

What do you think of the perona and amaru in by luffy?

Perona I’m iffy on, but the body/discard is sound. It’s only real synergy (atm) on Lvl reduction is Y Sabo, which makes it great for those 8c Kids, and any other large threats. I’m playing a retooled version that’s testing 2x: was Kalifa, but I want to see if Perona helps impact the game meaningfully. Amaru I’ve recently taken out… I think in the RP Law matchup, it’s nice to tap those Shuraiya’s down, any blocker centric list with 8c Kid is also vital. I don’t see it as integral, so it’s being opted out currently.

To be fair, the last player misplayed and you should of lost. Not saying you did anything wrong but I would have counted it as a realistic game loss. At regional level...prob would not have happened. I will defintiely try some stuff in the list. Can you explain reason for shirihosyi and why no makinos?

She can be a handful. The natural draw VS our raw power is such a good counter; but if they hit the 8c Kid w/Blockers online? 5c Y Sabo can help clear board before making that swing, but it puts Luffy out of 9K range (in most cases). No denying it’s a tough matchup. Someone in the comments suggested Raigo, and honestly… For that matchup it helps. I’ve Age + Sabo clears anything as well. 🤔

If they’re hitting the brothers and the best thing you can do is send them to the trash… It’s painful to face. You’re just hoping they brick or that you can outpace them before they reach several 9K turns.
