For whatever it's worth, I've been using a Genki ShadowCast with my Samsung Chromebook Pro, and latency hasn't been an issue, at all. Audio sometimes lags for the first 30 seconds or so, then it catches up with itself and I have absolutely no lag, and that's setting it to prioritize quality over performance. Last night I was using it with my PS3 playing Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, no issues.

I really like how DarienStegosaur uses a solid understanding of the english language to call out Genkis really shitty comment. The Lit nerd inside of me nearly exploded reading that. Because they say exactly what Genki is doing. I hate a company that lets their marketing and PR teams get full of people who dont get that their snide remarks reflect bad on the company as a whole. And they also know the power a voice like yours on YT is for their brand. Your opinions are obviously a threat, not only that but Stego also points out how easy it would be for them to actually prove their products are safe but their response still dosnt do that. This tells me they are hiding something and that just makes me trust their brand less. Ill stick to a dock mod if I really want a portable one, paying for a first party dock and making it work for me is the obvious solution. As for the capture card, ill go get an elgato before I buy something from Genki.

The issue with Bob and his stance is that he's actively trying to push an idea that isn't exactly accurate, mainly due to his poor interpretation of the information, (which in some cases seems intentional). His tactics with some of these companies aren't great either, I've seen him in an earlier video falsify a Switch Bricking case by saying his viewer had a bricked Switch (How well do you expect that one to go). Of coarse any of these big companies see him as a threat because for the most part he's smearing their brand, he's a public figure and since most people don't know enough about electronics they just take his word at face value. They've also already published a lot of information on why bricking occurs and what they've done to prevent it. At this point in time this issue is essentially over and done with, the only one still stuck on it is Bob and his fans, that includes you. I don't blame them for not wanting to continue the discourse because I myself don't like arguing with conspiracy theorists.

I was Kickstarter backer, which I rarely do these days, but since it was already an established company took the chance. I had some reservations too considering the specks, the biggest gripe being the usb 2.0, but really the price is what did it for me. I don't need high end capture card for the occasional casting to discord/twitch for friends to watch games like ACNH or secondary input video from my DSLR. The latency has been very minimal when playing games like Tetris or MarioKart but it is there, and yes when timing is critical it can be an issue. I have an HDMI splitter lying around so that might be my bypass solution to another monitor/tv if I ever needed to worry about latency. Genki's software is very basic and strangely I had to hunt for it online as it wasn't obvious in the manual where to go. One note is that don't actually need any software, it's viewable through a browser. It does work better via OBS. Genki threw in some stickers as some kind of bonus freebie, which they were all hyped about the artist, I didn't care much for them. I did find it amusing how the funding tiers included limited edition yellow vs black casing. Not that you can actually see it plugged inside the back of the Switch dock. I'm happy enough with the device. You get what you pay for, a very basic capture card, which is worth it's price for casual usage.

Of the Genki products I’ve bought this is the first one I am honestly considering not getting. The blue tooth dongle for audio has been amazing. The portable dock has given me no problems when bringing it to gatherings and is a great party feature. But the use case for converting my laptop into a screen just doesnt feel like an item realistically needed for the Switch. How many times do you find yourself saying “I wish I could use my laptop to play my Switch on”? Its a cool idea that a niche audience may be interested in. But it doesnt seem like they executed on it effectively enough. This is based upon several reviews. Now… if we could somehow get a wireless receiver to display the video output like the WiiU… next level stuff.

I supported genki on KS because of their “track record”. The genki Bluetooth dongle was one of the first to do low latency audio right on the switch. And the “portable” charger is just perfect. I not only use it with my switch but also with my Mac and as an IPhone fast charger. It even has an hdmi port so it even acts as a dock. But I don’t use this one. Haven’t had a use case for it. I don’t stream and I mostly use my switch in portable mode. It’s weird that most of these devices have latency issues. I remember playing darks souls on my ps4 trough local wifi and having no issues to parry, I would have thought dongles would be better by far.

I can give you a context where a low-cost capture card might be a very great idea: Disability. Hori just launched a controller made soley for disabled people which also allows Eye Trackers to work as controllers IF you use a capture card (it is needed to show controls con screen). Latency however.. is an issue, indeed, it makes most games unplayable.

My use case: Laptop as a second monitor. A gorgeous 15" 1080p display that I hardly used after building my desktop and going into lockdown has been brought back into use by a $40 dongle, which is worth it to me. Have the HDMI out on my desktop gpu hooked up to the laptop USB - it's not like Discord or file editing is particularly sensitive to framerate or minor latency. A product that did not meet Kickstarter expectations for sure, but still super useful in some ways

I mainly backed it because most of my extra money goes into clothing, writing supplies, and video games themselves. Capture equipment was just not in the budget since Elgato didn't (still doesn't?) Do afterpay or any pay in four. I knew it wouldn't work for project diva and rhythm games I love but I figured it'd be nice to play/potentially stream acnh or similar games. Idk if it's my laptop or I'm not doing things right but it isn't as play and play for me as I thought and it makes me wish I just stacked $50 for each month I waited for it to ship out and brought elgato instead 🤷🏾‍♀️

I have both one of these, and an Elgato Cam Link 4K, and if I'm being honest, no matter what purpose you're trying to use this for, something like a cam link is just better if you want much higher video quality, and if you're trying to be budget conscious then a generic one is much cheaper with very similar quality. Also, if you find out down the road that you need or want the pass through functionality added to something like this, or a cam link, an HDMI splitter will add on just fine. Edit: Also, I found the cam link lower latency in the first place, which was interesting, but I can definitely say that the quality of the video is basically like a native connection. Also, my use case for the Cam Linm is as a sort-of HDMI audio in (using windows "listen to this device), which is VERY low latency, and then also streaming my video as a webcam via discord for friends to see when I'm playing something in a call with them

Thank you for your comment, I have been looking for someone to compare this to Elgato Cam Link. How much better is the Cam Link latency, compared to shadowcast? Is games like Mario Kart and BotW playable on Cam Link without problems or do you notice the lag?
@Spike-bk6np
@Spike-bk6np 2 жыл бұрын
@@karjuho_ It's better, but still not perfect. For something like Mario Kart it's probably still usable to "play in a window", the same applies to BotW most of the time, but if you're trying to perfectly time a dodge it could be a bit challenging. Recently I just tested it again just navigating a menu and I could tell there was lag compared to a direct connection, but sometimes TVs that have signal processing are worse than what I experienced. Really, the biggest difference I noticed was just that the Cam Link was WAY better looking than the shadowcast. I personally still use the Cam Link since it's versatile, and haven't touched my shadowcast in forever.

Not necessarily my use, since I already have an Elgato for this, but my friend and I like to call while the other goes villager hunting in ACNH, and we like to screenshare it on Discord. She's never been able to do it, so this could be a cheap solution for this, since she doesn't stream so an Elgato wouldn't be worth it to her. Most uses are pretty niche I'd imagine, stuff kinda like this, but I think it's good to have a decent capture card for kinda cheap for casual kinda stuff

Got it from Kickstarter. It's working. That's the best review I can give. Also owning the Elgato HD60s, so having the Genki ShadowCast is definitely a downgrade. Appreciate the price, and mostly got it for travel so I can play Switch games on a bigger screen (laptop), but that's the end of it. A bit useless as a capture card due to latency and resolution limitations (ps4, ps5, xbox, ...)

I do have a use case for the use of this product by a regular person. A disabled person whose tv is on their wall and so their caregiver can’t get behind the tv to hookup the switch. The option of using my laptop would give me a larger screen without relying on my tv. I know handheld is an option but the games do look a lot better on a larger screen. Also, if you’re playing games with a lot of text you need to read, a larger screen makes that easier. However, after watching your video I do understand what the drawbacks are of using this type of equipment to play games. That’s why I ended up just getting a larger tv and putting it on a tv stand rather than on the wall.
