I remember being the DM with a group that was overall great, but that would JUST NEVER STOP. It was a lot of fun, but they would go through my entire plot for the session and ask for more. Like six hours on and they would be asking what happens next. I must have ripped off every single book, movie and musical to pad up those extra hours. One of those times I was so tired I thoughtlessly created a city where everyone was cursed to only speak in song and move through dancing, and where the cook in their favourite tavern was a drooling mutant rat (for the record, that was, like, a decade before Ratatouille, lol). Fool me. The players loved that one so much they made Longroad into their base of operations and the Giant Rat Inn got an entire arc, ending up the poshest tavern in the world. While still being tended by a poisonous drooling giant rat. Have to say I made my bed, so I had to roll on it. In retrospect, it was exhausting but all in good fun. I miss DMing!

TWA, in your honor, in one of the DnD games, I convinced our DM to let us have a love triangle like no other. See, two of our party are birds. Another party member is a paladin fully encased in very shiny, very pretty armor, who is completely oblivious to the two bird people who are fighting over said shiny paladin. Remind me to update this in a while, i might have some more info Edit: Nope, shut it down, closed for buisness. Sorry party people, the group dissolved before we even started the first session. Nobody could make enough time together sadly, timezones and all that. Just as disapointed as you guys might be. Don't expect any future updates. maybe we'll see our majestic bird bards again. Not for a long time though, if ever. Peace! Edit 2: hey, it's back!

That seems like it could be funny story. Once, long ago, a group of people sat down together to play a friendly game. But greed, selfishness, outright malice, and simple incompatible preferences led to disputes, which led to rivalry, which led to enmity. Unwilling to entrust any single member of their group with special authority, they eventually decided that the role of Dungeon Master must be a rotating position, thereby greatly magnifying drama and retribution in all of their various forms. Refusing to grant a hated nemesis the satisfaction of driving them away, aggravating their loathed compatriots is now the only part of the game that these maladjusted malcontents still enjoy. And none of them is willing to settle for any less than getting everyone else to finally quit in frustration. In the end, there can be only one.

I'd imagine that's a combination of a couple factors: 1. you're less likely to hear about the time a game went fairly well, since it isn't massively worth sharing 2. they're an uncommon race, and usually require supplements or homebrew to actually be playable, which makes stories with them less common 3. as a race largely inspired by Japanese mythology and a central creature in Naruto lore they attract a lot of weebs 4. as a race with animal traits who usually come with bonuses to charisma, and thus attractiveness, they attract a lot of furries 5. since they normally gain bonuses to charisma and illusion or mind control abilities, they're well built for numerous edgy or annoying classes (paladins, warlocks, bards, rogues, etc) I should clarify, I don't believe that liking anime or being part of the furry community inherently makes you a bad person or something. It's more that there are people who base major parts of their identity on liking anime or being a furry, and those types of people are very rarely fun to be around, and this race attracts both of them. Thank you for coming to my TED (Tabletop's Extreme Douchebags) Talk.

You can also get tattoos that change colour and can glow in the dark, which is even more useless and pointless. sure it might light up a crawl space a bit, but you can get low light vision, night vision, infra red vision, x-ray vision, echo location implants so why the fuck would need glow in the dark tattoos? Dyed in the wool sandbox gamer here. Yeah, I've had "just do nothing" people. Usually it's not their fault though, it's rather common for people to rely on their GM to outright TELL people what they are doing. Sometimes it's good to have a specific plot hook to get them in the region and have it resolved or become irrelevant after a lot of other interesting things come about. Then they are wondering at one point "weren't we supposed to be tracking a white dragon?". Have a little "intro plot" to the big open sandbox.

Basically it amounts to every kingdom in the world is trying to figure out what the space dragon wants so they can have it's overwhelming power on their side, like a loose WMD. None of them assume anything the dragon says should be taken at face value, ascribing deeply subtle messaging to it all. Naturally the dragon is likely being upfront, but it's so alien it keeps doing odd things that feed the conspiracy theories about it's true motives. Picture Sauron, Gandalf and Mumm-Ra all trying to puzzle out what the dragon actually wants, while it's just up there eating popcorn as they entertain it.

I came back to this video after researching Japanese mythology for a project, and finally understood the adolescent mutated shinobi kappa joke. That was good.

3:14 *not only does the Mary Sue™ have a carefully crafted novel length back story , but also luxurious and shimmering waist length tresses that quietly whispers "natural blond and better than you" to all that gaze upon it*...*hair that simply radiates beauty and glitters like diamonds with even the slightest of movement or head turn regardless of the lack of a visible light source or naturally occurring breeze*...*not to mention the sudden alteration in the space time continuum where any given moment is prolonged for what seems like minutes as an orchestral soundtrack reverberates across the campaign play field or present hazard or lull in the adventure*

My first DM sometimes looked like a pinata, but that was only a thin facade over his killer nature...which was itself just a thin disguise over his true nature as an oldschool DM.

the BEST character ever in d&d is lawful genius. you see INJUSTICE? you charge up that road faster than the DM can say roll initiative and fight those orcs until they are all dead or there's a TPK
