Did I end up skinning it and wearing its hide and skull as armor and using the horns as an extra weapon? Maybe. Were my actions described as "sociopathic", "why are you like this?", and "that's probably a war crime of some sort. At least second degree murder."? Who knows? I gave a character a Cloak of Artillery, pretty much Cloak of Many Things but instead of things, it's weapons. Anything you can think of (within a medieval setting and reason, i trust my players), and you can spend a free object interaction to summon it either into your hand or, if it's a ballista or somrthing large like that, a space within 5 feet of you. Now, this was a party of characters and players that I'd been with for almost 2 years, so I trust them not to abuse it. However, the guy who got the cloak, a bugbear paladin/fighter, he's smarter than the average bear. They're riding on top of a mountain sized undead dragon (Ancalagon, but re-animated, in Middle Earth. Don't ask how a bugbear got there). They're freaking out. They were just walking along a hill WHEN THE HILL SUDDENLY STARTS MOVING AND THE HORIZON DISSAPEARS. So naturally, they try to fight the thing. On its back. It does not like the tickling, so it tries to shake them off. Most of the party actually makes their saves, but the Bugbear doesn't. So as he's about to fall 300+ feet, he looks at me dead in the eyes, and says the following: "I summon a catapult five feet below me. I would like to make a dexterity save to get in the spoon." Me, not entirely processing what he's doing: "Okay, cushioning the fall, i like the thought process. Let's give it a DC 15, but with disadvantage because this thing is probably falling a lot faster than you are." Him: "That'll be a 22. Now can I action surge, and make an attack action to cut the rope?" Me, visibly shocked at his ingenuity: "Dude, I'm not even going to make you roll. You are more or less stationary. BUT, roll me percentile to see how accurate you are. Let's say, 75 or above, your mid-air aim is true, and you launch yourself back up onto the back. 51 to 74, you launch up, but you're going to need to roll me an acrobatics or athletics check to land safely. Anything below a 50, and you're plummeting." Him: * rolls percentile, reads the results, then sits back with a shit eating grin * I look over, and sitting on the table, for everyone to see, is a fucking 100. He pirouetted onto the back of Ancalagon out of a catapult midair. I love my party. Sorry for the long story.

@KrynTheDragonKing5 ай бұрын
I mean that’s a hell of a way to do it but a sorcerer should always have an escape for this situation, even in the second level spells you have Levitate, Vortex Warp, depending on your DM warding wind and web At third level you have fly, gaseous form, thunder step, again dependent on your dm you could argue for slow, and by all technicality blinking into the ethereal plane would protect you from Fall damage as it specifies that only creatures in the etherial plane can hurt you, although I’d imagine most DMs are going to turn that down even rule heavy ones For fourth level spells which is the highest I’m going for this theoretical you have banishment which as long as you’re not from any other plane would pause your momentum and reduce your fall damage, dimension door, polymorph, stoneskin, and again depending on your DM watery sphere as it restrains you in place. I will preemptively explain why stoneskin is a great option, seeing as fall damage in 5e is calculated at 1d6 per 10 feet and you hit terminal velocity at 200, the maximum fall damage you can take is 120 and that is with all 20 d6s rolling max, in reality you’ll likely take closer to 40-80, stoneskin resistance to bludgeoning halves that damage sorcerer survives a 200 foot fall no problem

Other sorcerer disables the train, boss ejects all of us from the train and makes it grow giant pink light legs (queue the Mettaton song). First turn my sorcerer gets, I vortex warp the boss, legs disappear, and the train that's a good 70 feet in the air is now coming down right in front of us. I put the boss directly underneath the falling train and he gets crushed to death by his own train.

My friends and I played a oneshot recently with the final battle happening on top of a moving train. The bbeg swallowed a potent magical item and we were on a countdown until the whole thing exploded. One round left, nothing but failure to stop them until this point. I'd used command unsuccessfully twice in different fights before this point, but I figured this was as good a time to try again as any. "Vomit". The bbeg threw back up the magic item with moments to spare

That has to look awesome if you picture it Like you get thrown off and just say "catch" and your enemy saves you

Genuinely your daggerfall series is one of my favorites of yours. Even just you trying not to lose your mind and chatting with, well, chat makes it all the better. Though I'd never say no to a revisit...

The thing is, there's a few ways you COULD interpret the command. But the more obvious interpretation was to catch the Sorcerer before they hit the ground. The DM chose to save the player instead of going for a different "catch."

We just did an Adult Red Dragon fight! Our level 10 butts were getting whooped and the dragon was barely under half. So our Artificer decided to kamikaze into the Astral Plane with Bags of Holding.

DM wasn’t giving em a dramatic death. Dude gave him some extra motivation to think outside the box. Well done on both parts.

That sounds like something you’d see in an epic fantasy movie or anime or something- I need to see this animated in a dramatic way and a story I’m invested in.

The sorcerer cast his command to the dragon! In an instant he saw this age old beast of fire and death’s eyes widen, it’s tail wag, and it’s stance lower as it bound after him like Clifford the big red fucking dragon. Spectacular.

I didn’t think it would be “catch” I thought it was gonna be “fetch” because then logically the dragon has to put you back. 😂
