How long does it take to find all 50 states in GeoGuessr? I've done it four times before, now let's see if I can get it done even faster.

If anyone is wondering (like me): On average it should take about 225 rounds, if the probability for each state was equal.

@@Linkzcap The first state will always take 1 round. For the second state the probability is 49/50, so on average it should take 50/49 rounds. For the third state the probability is 48/50, so it should take 50/48 rounds on average . Next one 50/47 and so on until 50/1 for the last round. When you sum it all up, it adds to 224,96. And I also ran a quick simulation to verify, because i find it easy to mess up when working with probabilities.

@@mr.peckerhead1057 Can you explain why you can say the inverse of the probability is the average amount of rounds it should take? I'm a little confused why, for example, you can say it's 50/1 rounds for the last state. Using 0.5 = 1 - (49/50)^n, the average amount of rounds it takes to get one specific state out of 50 is 34.3.

@@Linkzcap You can model the game as a Bernoulli experiment where you either get a new state (succes) or an old one (failure). The probability for a new state p is the number of new states by the number of all states. The expected value of successes E in a binomial distrubution is E = np, where n is the number of trials. We are looking for the expected value of 1 success, so E =1. So the number of trials is n = 1/p. Does that make sense?

Love these videos! I do this, but not in a speed run fashion. I keep stats on my games (certain states appear more often than others) and have found that it takes me roughly 40ish games to check off all 50 states. Granted, this isn't 40 games in a row, but just a couple games a day over the course of a few weeks.
