Now we know Mario wasn’t even close to winning, so the fact TOTK won AA means it was actually second place since it already beat everything except Baldurs Gate.

@@revben Agreed, Rev. Even if on lower end of a AAA budget, BG3 wasnt a "smaller" production from what is being said about it. I first played thru BG and BG2 back about 1999. From the sounds of it, this is an amazing continuation of the series. The one trailer I heard Minsc. Wonder if Boo survived. People used to talk about who the character art resembled on the Bioware forums. Till this day, I think they used Mark Messier(Hockey player for Edmonton, who then went on to the Rangers). It would make sense as Canada is where Bioware was located. While my kids actually liked Pokémon, to me, these RPGs are about "catching them all" when it comes to signing up companions.

@@bobjoe5937 You nailed it, Bob. Having started on the 2600, in the late 70s, we truly had some bland games by todays standards. What we didn't have was politically correct content. I already despise Hollywood. Thanks to companies like that Sweet Baby's Diaper, or whatever the name, we will be getting fed a lot more Progressive rhetoric in the bigger mainstream games. I hadn't ever heard of them until Griffen brought them up. It wont happen, but folks need to boycott every game they are involved with. Gaming was perfectly fine before they arrived. It would remain that way if they, and all pushing the same divisive chit, were forced to GTFO. When people watch a movie, or play a video game, it is about escapism. I wont speak for others, but for myself, I am not interested in being preached to during those spans. That goes for either side. I can attend church, or hit a protest, if I wish to be lectured.

I think what gets Spider Man 2 fans going in particular is the type of game that won. Not that SM2 didn't win. A "nerdy", turn based, DnD based, strategic game won over SM2? Now THAT'S an insult. They'd probably be far more cool with AW2 winning or even TotK (they should at least KNOW Zelda... And it's a console game.. so they would've seethed less.)

It has to be a hell of a bubble that Spider-Man 2 fans are in. There's no other explanation for why they seem THIS shocked that Spider-Man went home empty handed. And all the attacks on BG3 are ridiculous, especially those claiming "nobody played it". Not only was BG3 the most talked about game of the year, even if it wasn't nominated, Spider-Man never had a chance against TotK and Alan Wake 2.

AW2 is my GOTY. And even in the AW Reddit there's no salt and most people just assumed BG3 will take GOTY. They were just happy to see 3 awards won and the amazing live performance.

@@cmdrjanjalaniFor me BG3 definitely was GOTY but AW2 did great! And it released like what? 1 1/2 months before the awards? I played it after the awards and greatly enjoyed it. So to me it deserved the awards it took home. SM2 stood no chance regardless of BG3. I think what irks SM2 fans most is that this "nerdy, turn based DnD" game beat SM2. If AW2 won I think they would've been more "chill" about it.

Peaked at 800k concurrent players on release, peaked at 875k players NEXT WEEKEND and for the last 4 months, remained in the top 10 most played games, every day, never dropped under 47k concurrent players. In the most pessimistic estimation sold 5.5 million copies and in the most optimistic 27 million. And that's only on Steam, data taken from steamdb and steamcharts. Yeah, nobody played Baldur's Gate 3, GJ!

It does get tiresome that people who like/dislike a certain game wants to make others agree with their viewpoint. Instead adopting your approach and just simply let people enjoy the games that they like. It's beyound childish that people are having a brain aneurysm over a game getting or not getting an award. Personally I think BG3 was just a great game. My buds and I played it time and time again with different playthroughs and picking different classes. What is a great shame, is that Spiderman fans should be proud that the game was nominated for 7 awards. To even just be nominated is proof that the game is something special. But no, the pointless console war turns them into brainless drones. I could not be happier that they have been humbled. The only way i can see someone believe that Spiderman 2 shouldve won over BG3 is if theyre a fanboy because if you're a gamer that keeps up with whats going on you know BG3 shook the gaming industry. Something similar happened with Elden Ring actually who too to no ones surprise won the GOTY award. Unlike Elden Ring though that was highly anticipated and a From Software game BG3 was made by a studio thats not nearly as mainstream and the games a CRPG, a genre that doesnt usually appeal to the normies and or game journalists. What Larian has achievesd is truly apecial and has introduced so many people to the CRPG genre which is awesome really.

People bought SM2 on Spider-Man's name alone. Thats where sales come from. Then people actually PLAYED the game and realized it was dog💩. Hence NO awards.

My favourite piece of salt was jaytech trying to claim Baldurs gate as a Sony win because it wasn't on xbox, and how the xbox fans took an L because of that. Only for his chat to inform him it had launched on the xbox during the show, he spent about 20 minutes talking about no man's sky before even acknowledging the comment and then instantly changed the subject. "I'm happy they gave it to Baldurs gate but at the time they gave it to Baldurs gate, as of right now, it's not available on xbox, it's only available on PlayStation and PC, so that's actually a W for us, it is a W, until that game is available on xbox that's a W for PlayStation, the version they gave the review too, that's only on PlayStation and PC, xbox fans, you all took an L today" The game was on the xbox store as he said this.

But the consumers should't feel bad if their favourite album didn't win an award, coz they listened to the music and are happy and that's all that matters. PS fanboys are the worst !!! I commented on a frame rate comparison video. And saw that Alan wake 2 ran better on the Xbox Series X vs the PS5. 10 sec's later I got hate reaction that the PS5 was better, and that the dual-sense has haptic feedback etc. First thing I did when I got my PS5. Is to turn all that shit off !!!. Because it drains your battery life like no tomorrow ! Still I got a good laugh out of these fanboys. Seeing them cope and cry made my day :)

They find bg3 boring because of being a turn-based game, when spiderman 2 is spaming the same combination os buttons against the same model of enemies over and over again with the only challenge is enemies with more hp... But bg3 enemies has greater IA smart enough to push you to a cliff rather than casting a spell that won't do much damage

You know what Videogame did quick time events where you have to press a button repeatedly better than Spider-Man and most games? It's Called Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. And it came out I believe 2014. And those quick time events. What made them so good. Was the fact that they were impactful and felt like you were actually doing something. Especially the Metal Gear boss fights which are only two. Metal Gear Ray. Mmmmm. The moment that the lyrics "Rules of Nature" Hit so Loud. Is the second you fall in love with game. And it will only get better overtime

Spiderman2 was a good game & many people enjoyed it but it really didn't do anything special or out of the box. It's still the same game as Spiderman 2018 in essence with upgraded graphics & performance & few new things here & there. That's it. And they played it super safe considering it's a sequel of such a big IP. Also games like Spiderman 2 are too cinematic. They handhold too much. Too many cutscenes, walking segments. Too many repetitive side quests. You have to play the game as per how Developers intend you to play. You don't have the level of freedom,exploration & player agency in Spiderman 2 as you would get in games like Baldur's Gate 3 & Zelda. Same reason why Elden Ring won last year over GOWR & Horizon. People want games that let them experiment & explore & play as per their own choice, not as per the developer's choice. I think the real problem here is that most of these Spidey fanboys havent even played BG3. How are you judging whether a game deserves GOTY or not without even playing it lol??? I have played both Spiderman 2 & BG3 & BG3 wins GOTY by a mile. Its not even close. BG3 = once in a decade game so much so that other developers started calling it an "anamoly" & "setting unrealistic expectations" Spiderman 2 = just another Sony third person action adventure that really didn't do anything unique & didn't really innovate or push the gaming medium forward. They just used the same formula as they use in their other exclusive games.

Exactly. And the graphical upgrade wasn't even that much of an upgrade. The first Spiderman game is the best one out of the trilogy. Miles morales was ok but very short and mostly just a copy and pasted game. Spiderman 2 was ok but the story was not as good as the original. The web wings were cool but I prefer the gadgets from the first one as well. Lastly I hate the swapping of characters. I just want to be Spiderman in a Spiderman game. Not miles, not mj, and Def not miles' girlfriend lol. They should have just been side characters to push the story.

I personally loved Spider-Man 2. I 100% the game in a 3 days off playthrough (25 in game hours total) and I enjoyed the story. It was my most anticipated game of the entire year. I also played Zelda Alan Wake 2 and Baldurs gate 3, 3 games I found either more fun to play or way much more to do than Spider-Man 2. While it’s easily in my top 10 MAYBE top 5 games in 2023, it’s far from game of the year for me. I’m honestly leaning to Baldurs gate 3 or Tears of the kingdom for that one. So the reaction of PlayStation fans is sad to me. Can’t believe they honestly thought Spider-Man was gonna win. I actually thought the story from the first Spider-Man game overall was WAY better than the sequel. I feel Spider-Man peaked back in 2018. Great games, they belong on any top whatever list, and I recommend everyone to play them especially if your a superhero fan like me, but Zelda, Alan Wake 2, and Baldurs Gate 3 are my personal best games this year. Everything else while good fall below those 3. Then you watch the game awards and what happens, Spider-Man loses to literally all 3 of them in every category….so the game awards basically confirm my thoughts and feels. But I have to admit I voted for Spider-Man 2 in other categories that I fully expected them to win and I’m surprised they lost the other 4 categories. Even I was shocked it won nothing. I personally think it deserves SOMETHING but I guess I’m in the minority there because they got nothing. So….wow.
