Everything you described is symptomatic of a WiFi problem in your home's network. Did you separate the 2.4 and 5 GHz access points in your router into separate SSIDs to ensure the Portal is using the 5 GHz connection? And plug the PS5 to your router via Ethernet? If you have a congested neighborhood, reducing the channel width can also improve latency significantly. Did you try unplugging the HDMI cable from the PS5? As well as setting the PS5 game preference to performance mode? I've been using my PlayStation Portal since the 17th with every action and FPS game I can throw at it. I haven't experienced any input delay or stutter at all. A typical 5 GHz access point will incur 1-3 ms of latency if your router's CPU is not overloaded. I've been playing more PS5 games than since the day I bought the PS5, since I was always learning more towards the Nintendo Switch so I could play games from bed or while sitting on the sofa with my wife. If you have the 2.4 and 5 GHz signals combined into a single SSID, there's a chance that the Portal is getting alternated back and forth between a very high latency 2.4 GHz signal, and a very low latency 5 GHz signal. It's easy to overload a 2.4 GHz network as it can only reliably service a dozen devices in a wide range. Any 2.4 GHz device your neighbors are using also eat into available bandwidth. Of course, 5 GHz has limited range, so it's ideal to place the router in the middle of your home for the most coverage in all directions. As well as having at least one access point per floor in a multi-floor house. Signals do not broadcast very strongly vertically. Consumer models are designed are emit their best signals horizontally.

I was having the same issue, as much I wanted this to be good, the lag was crazy even with a 800gigabit with my network. Try this out! Sony's betting in 1-2 years time the reach and bandwidth of broadband and mobile networks can maintain a consistent .1sec lag threshold for on-the-go use. And you don't need to buy dedicated games for it. They're trying to ride the wave before it comes, i guess.

Many people keep mistakenly assuming this requires Internet. This is not specifically a cloud streaming device, and it is primarily marketed for local streaming. Your Internet connection doesn't matter. Only your home's WiFi setup. You could live next door to a cloud provider and still have stutter and delay if you're playing on a poorly-configured home network. Or have dialup and stream games perfectly with a decent 802.11AX router set up properly.

I honestly think if PlayStation doesn't get back to its roots its gonna be in trouble. This was a lazy cheap and greedy way to get back in the handheld market. Total cash grab in my opinion. They knew a bunch of their loyal fans will buy this garbage and they dont care. Its all about money now. They no longer innovate and sony exclusives haven't been anything special this generation. 3 years now and i haven't played one memorable game.Returnal i guess was pretty good thats about it. Its all the same crap we have already seen with a little more shiny graphics. Everyone just wants an actual portable PlayStation and this is what they gave us. Overpriced junk that will be a flop. I hope jim ryan leaving fixes some things because I dont like what PlayStation has become. This isn't even close to the PlayStation that i grew up loving. PlayStation used to be where the games were at. Xbox exclusives are even worse now. Been around since PlayStation 1 and its just became a joke. I dont understand the people gobbling up everything they put out. Take a step back and take a look at what we have gotten with ps5. Nothing in 3 years. Im on pc now because i can pretty much play everything on it. My ps5 collects dust and im giving it one more year. If we dont get any decent games its getting sold. At least Nintendo still has good exclusives. They dont even have to put new hardware out because its still flying off the shelves because they have fun games with good gameplay. pretty graphics and fps isnt everything. Gameplay is everything.
