Playwright Marianne Buchanan’s battle to survive stage three breast cancer is such an epic tale, it takes a cast of nine actors playing 54 different characters to bring it to the stage.
The result is a play called “Breaking Breast”, which has been included in the Empire Theatre’s Homegrown Independent Program and will open later this month.
In this chat, Marianne shared with me how she came to write the play as she was recovering from cancer treatment in 2019 soon after moving to Toowoomba - a city she never wanted to live in.
