With the upcoming new vulcan renderer, there might be no more compatible ways left to allow Star Citizen to work in VR (currently it works with VorpX). That would be so bad because, it's just extra cool !

CIG isn't killing their plan for VR. A lot of the upcominf animation work is well-suited for VR interactions and uses Code-Driven Inverse Kinematics to procedurally generate contextual animations, like the door panel interactions seen at Citcon this last year. CIG also positions the camera for players at the models eyes so our player models are the same in 1st and third person. Its coming, but not until after we've got things like Vulkan and Global Illumination.

We will need to wait for a native VR support from CIG. VorpX workaround is very bad and not immersive at all. At least it's much worse than my 80" surround screen setup with Tobii tracker.

As far as I understand you can't get real VR in Star Citizen as of 3.22.1. You can get VR headsets to display with 3rd party applications and even headtracking would work but there isn't real depth to the image as the two images rendered are the same. It basically looks like you're looking at a 360 degree display screen. Again I don't know for sure but that's what I've read elsewhere and heard from a few players in the PU.

This was basically what our attempt felt like, but you could get the depth to feel really good playing around with the curve of the monitor in virtual desktop, opentrack and the SC FOV setting

I'm hoping the vulcan renderer fixes the issue with shield damage causing a crash to desktop on the 1080 series nvidia cards. I can't do anything that involves potential shield damage, which is a lot of things in the game! Yes I know it's time for a new card but SC is the only game I have issues with due to my card.

A lot of the new UI elements coming with the next quarterly update in aperal seem WAY more VR friendly then the old ones. I know one of the leads is still really invested in getting VR working after the Graphics API update to Vulken (basically done according to the monthly reports) but I do wonder what they will do when it comes to how much your character tends to get thrown around in this game being thrown around in the back of a Multie crew ship as the pilot makes hard maneuvers and you didn't make it to a chair is a good way to end up with your lunch on the floor

Well that would defo add to the immersion don't you think? 🤣

Full VR support and consideration is probably gonna be a long way off, but OpenXR support and the ability to run VR at all would still be awesome. I'd probably play a lot of AC, just to have that uninterrupted

It would be sad. VR is the only reason I would buy this game.

How immersive is it?

Most immersive VR game I ever played, it's something really special, the feeling of sitting in your ship and flying through space, fighting, mining, docking, trading, it feels super immersive.

In past comments from CIG, I am to understand that even if Vulkan comes in, they're were planning to run in parallel DX11 giving the users to option to use it or not for some time. Ultimately it seems there will be a full switch-over to Vulkan. However I believe they have as one of their objectives to get VR support into the game 'officially'.

Elite Dangerous is amazing in VR, it was my favorite game for the Vive. Honestly no idea why you would play this game if it doesn't have VR?

If you remove VR from the equation SC is the better game well when it works.

@@UnderdogSMO I've looked into it recently and realised it's not that scam looking kickstarter it once was. It honestly looks great for what it is by now. If it ever releases I might be inclined to try it out even without VR. But imagine a fully finished SC with VR... I can only dream

@@NneonNTJ It's sounding like Squadron 42 is releasing soon. It's the original pitch with a story and campaign missions. If they get VR working in that game, it should be pretty immersive. Star Citizen, the multiplayer part, is going to take time. They are heavily focused on server meshing. If they can perfect that, then the project will likely take off fast.

No Native VR in SC? LOL. Not interested then.

It's on the list, but no word on how long it'll take. Their graphics guy said a while back that he's working on Vulkan support first, but after that he'd get it implemented if he had to do it in his off time, so we'll get it eventually.
@harabecswurveweathers4 ай бұрын
@@monty58that would be Silvan. He did a lot of the UI stuff for Ultrawide displays. He also said that when his work with Vulkan is done he'd try to find the time to start working on VR implementation, as it's a big passion of his.
