Welcome to the official KZfaq channel of Nikol Johnson!💄
My Channel empowers women to show up, be BOLD, FIERCE, and Unapologetic. I talk a lot about this in my book Beauty Reinvented, available through Amazon! It's not just about going gray young it's about a powerful movement for women breaking out and having NO BEAUTY RULES.
➡️ None of what I show on this channel is what “mainstream” KZfaq makeup tutorials will show you. Instead of telling you to put loads of makeup on (that makes you look like a different person), I want to show you how to “reveal” the beauty that you already have and teach you how to look GREAT- while still looking like YOURSELF.
As the years go by, many women feel that their beauty and radiance go by too. I don’t believe this. I believe you can stay beautiful, confident, and feel fabulous even if you’re past 40, 70, 80, or 100 years of age.
➡️ No matter your background or your age, my goal is to help you on your journey. Whether through make-up/skin-care tutorials, product reviews, or health/wellness advice. I want to empower (and teach) women to show up, be BOLD, FIERCE, and unapologetic.
Are you ready to embrace your authentic self- and start making YOUR OWN BEAUTY RULES? Subscribe to my channel NOW! 🔔

I am 70 years old. When I was a young woman, I became a medical esthetician, At 37, I went to nursing school and became a nurse, much to the chagrin and derogatory comments from my family (except for my husband and children- they encouraged me). At 45, I went to graduate school and became an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner specializing in wound care, as skin was always my passion. When I was about 50, I decided to earn my doctoral degree- I have never regretted the decision to spend the time, money, or whatever on my education, even though my family (mother, father, sister, brother-in-law) were nay-sayers to everything. If you let the opinions of others influence your life, you will never achieve your dreams- go for it!

I was raised hearing, "What will people think?" I have always felt judged by others and usually focused on the possible negative rather than the positive. I have allowed this to limit me everywhere in my life. I shall try very hard in 2024 to push this thought from my beliefs and allow my true self to be unafraid to shine and trust that it is OK not to be absolutely perfect all of the time. Thank you for this video, Nikol.

This brought tears to my eyes. My gosh...it was like hearing my Mother's voice telling me what was negative rather than positive in me. It does color the rest of your life and prevents you from dreaming and hoping.

Oh yes, that was a constant refrain, and add to that, “aren’t you ashamed of yourself” and the constant comparison refrains, “why aren’t you more like…fill in the blank, my friends, my cousins. There was nothing that I could ever do that was acknowledged, never mind praised.

The guilt of the past really spoke to me and is a good reminder. As we age, of course we rack up lots of mistakes in our past that we regret and have a lot of " what ifs" - the chance we were too scared to take, the relationship we let go for stupid reasons, the time we wasted, etc. I need to remember to rephrase this to "look what you have accomplished", "what else can I do to continue growing and finding meaningful joy" so that I look forward to each day with confidence and a good attitude.

This really hit home!!. As a 65 young gal I decided about 10 years ago to dress to make me feel happy! Quirky, boho, conservative, loud, sultry, especially with my accessories! Thanks to you I've learned how to bring out the best of face to match each of these styles without being gaudy. I'm known to my friend as being eclectic and other ladies tell me they wish they could be like that but am afraid they wouldn't be able to pull it off like me. I tell them its not a matter of pulling it off but whether the like the way it makes them feel. I wear everything with confidence because it makes me feel happy! Feeling pretty at 65 doesn't always happen. But when I wear my silk kaftan with my rhinestone platform sandals I'm very , very happy!!

Your comment hit home to me I'm 70 was married to a man that insisted I wore black and I was covered up all the time. Now I wear what I like and for the first time in my life I feel sexy and beautiful. I don't care what others might think and you know what I've been told how great I look and young I look. I've even dipped my toes into online dating and found it's the 46 year olds that found me attractive each one has told me that I have changed their attitude towards older women and won't be bias in the future. Getting older was something I dreaded but it's turned out to be the best time of my life because I've found who I am and want to be not what someone else thinks I should be.

#3 Stop wearing the weight of other people's opinions spoke to me. I'm 64 and have come to realize that other people's opinion of what retirement looks like doesn't fit me. It's taken me 5 years to figure this out. So, I'm headed in a direction different from the people around me and making my own path defining what retirement looks like to me. And thanks to your channel, I'm looking (and feeling) pretty damn amazing doing it. Thank you!

WOW, what an inspirational video and advice. Retired 68yo woman, RN for 43 years. We would have a seminar about thinking about our death, and what would be important like 1 year, 6 months, weeks or days before our deaths, sure did give you a different perspective on what was important. My Dad would ask me when I would complain of regret or a mistake I made: "Did I learn something? Then it shouldn't be a mistake or regret, we are only human, not perfect!"

Whenever I go out, I always find somebody to compliment, especially the elderly. You'd be surprised to see the light in their eyes. I love to do this with older women. It's like you acknowledge their existence. I tell then to play it forward. It's my random act of kindness for the day.

That healing takes time! Give yourself grace. Please know, as a fellow narc survivor, I learned that many bad choices were done under such great manipulation that the person or situation I thought I was dealing with was not true, or my sense of what was normal, was not normal! Many times I was simply in the dark and in survival mode. I know better now, so I do better, giving myself permission to live a healthier life and have a healthier future. ❤

Thank you for this video! My thoughts are completely in-line with yours. It’s like you were in my head!! My word for 2024 is, CHANGE. My internal change. Chasing me and finding out all about me, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I realize I’ve been expecting external validation, whether my job, my husband, or my kids, or my friends. When all along all I needed to do was make me happy, take care of me and everyone else in my life would become an enrichment of that fulfillment. Im 61 & I wish I would have told my 36 yr old self this. However, this glorious event happens when you age, you learn that you just don’t care. I don’t mean you become a less caring person, I mean you are able to let go of so many insecurities & grief you’ve caused yourself for years! You don’t care about all of that & instead begin to focus on yourself, which should have been our focus all along. We are warriors, we are strong, and we are more than capable!!!🥰

Gosh, I literally could not think of a harder role for a woman!! It'd be like being the eternal First Lady. And yet, First Ladies only have to do 8 years max, and they have staff! Is the pressure coming from you, your husband, or the congregation? Maybe all three in different ways? Personally, I'd love the pastor's wife to fracture the mold of "the Pastor's Wife". Wishing you strength and creativity in how you apply Nikol's suggestions in your life ❤

Hi Nikol, it is so refreshing to hear an attractive woman encouraging others to shine as you do. We are hard on ourselves, yet, there you are telling us not to dwell on mistakes, but learn and do better. No letting past errors define who we are now. There are so few women nudging us to put ourselves out there and be the people we are meant to be. It was a something that everyone needed to start the new year.😊

"Don't wear the guilt of the past" resonated with me because I do that literally. I was in pretty sorry shape for a while; but I dug myself out from under more than a quarter million dollars in debt, published a book, and lost over 200 pounds. I have taste, I know what works on me, but I default to cheap yoga pants and t-shirts because my appearance hasn't caught up with the new me, yet. What's sad is how many of my friends and family are HORRIFIED that I want to spend money on myself and buy new clothes. Apparently, they think that buying a couple of nice new pairs of jeans and a few tops will do the trick and I have been advised, repeatedly, not to buy a complete versatile capsule wardrobe. Heaven forbid that I should be presentable or - gasp, perish the thought - chic. I've always been the fat dumpy one and nobody can deal with me wanting to look good. I'm glued to your content because you empower me to express myself in the best possible way. I love your channel and need your message! Thank you, this was very timely for me.

I love this Nikol. Thank you! So many women need this encouragement. I agree, the time is now. I have found that scheduling time for those things we enjoy gives us something to look forward to. I’ve been struggling to find time for my art and even normal beauty routines since my hubby retired. It has taken a year or so for us both to adjust, but we’re getting there. I finally explained to him that ladies don’t just roll out of bed, throw on some wrinkled clothes and go out out for the day. So he said, okay, how long do you need? No pressure there as he stood outside the door waiting. Omg! 😂 Just for an FYI we have been married for 41 years and I worked in the beauty industry for years. My hubby was gone a lot with his work, and after talking to him for a bit I realized that he thought that he had to go out for breakfast, it had just become such a habit for him over the years. We took a tour of the kitchen and I showed him where all the food was and even told him it was okay to ask me to make breakfast when he wants some eggs. Cracking up here. Communication is so important. This post is perfect, every day is a gift from God, tomorrow is not promised, so there is no time like the present for an internal makeover. Be honest, be grateful, be loving and gentle toward yourself and one another. Let go of past hurts, enjoy the small blessings in each day, looking forward because as the saying goes, “The best is yet to come!” Remember ladies, no matter the age, every person is valuable and beautiful in God’s eyes, and he’s not done with us yet! 🎉

Thank you Nikol. It’s so good to hear this again, although you presented it in a fresh way. Sometimes when it’s hard to let go of the guilt from the past, I ask myself”what would life be like if I was WILLING to just imagine not wearing the guilt?” Being willing to imagine or to try is sometimes the baby step that helps me really do it. It can be quite freeing. There is joy too. Thanks again. Linda from California

I raised my daughter and she is now a fantastic mum of 4 boys whom I adore. She is happily married unfortunately my marriage did not last, which on reflection I am happy it didn't. I am more content and happy proving that you don't need a man to fulfill you. I don't care what people think about me, I am still happy and still have a kind heart, so Thank You.😊

Nikol, thank you for sharing your goals. I use to worry about what everyone thought about me and then I realized the only person I had to impress was God. He wrote my name in the palm of His hand! So I am thankful for nature and raindrops, kisses from my dogs and a voice to sing. God has given everybody a special gift that we can use to further His kingdom. I am so thankful that I found a very special woman that has such a big heart for beauty in style and makeup. She works so very hard to bring us the best video’s, beauty products, and style. I hope you can slow down a bit and rest. I am enjoying just watching TV while I rest with my schnauzer in my lap. I am sixty-three. God isn’t finished with me yet on or off the couch. We all need to stop and smell those beautiful roses!

All of these are so true. The guilt of the past is what affects so many of us. One I struggled with for years. But it is very liberating to just let go. It's good for the soul.

Nikol…how often we forget the little things that matter! 😊 As I’ve gotten older, (in my early 70’s..its hard to type that number🫣, I realize that you have to start thinking about yourself and taking care of yourself. If you are waiting for someone else to do this, it won’t happen.

Absolutely on point three. You’re at the short end of your life, how do you want to live it? Worrying about what people think of you. If they have a problem, “it is their problem” not yours. You what you want, when you want without the need for explanation to anyone. Family included. If you can’t change something don’t waste your life energy thinking about it. If I have an issue I address it calmly then let it go. If others can’t do the same, problem theirs. This applies to family as well. Sometimes they are he biggest life drainers.

This is one of the best videos you've made, in my opinion. And you know what? I honestly think you can expand the target audience. The message you're speaking of in this video could benefit anyone of nearly any age. It's so very positive and I love, love, love how supportive you are with regard to all facets of health. Thank you so much for all of your messages, especially this one.

Lots of great advice. Do what you want to do and not caring about others opinions are two big ones. I retired five years ago primarily to help care for my mother in law who has since passed away. I’m kind of floundering for something to do for the first time in my life! Going to the gym and walking with a friend has been wonderful for my mental health!

Thank you for sharing this inspiring video! I think we can all relate to these internal “styling” tips, but I think number three spoke to me the most. As a retired 67 year old, it seems that the opinions of others don’t weigh on me like they used to. I’m comfortable with who I am, and try to live each day with humility and kindness. It’s taken a long journey to get to this place, and I can still have not so great days. I try to embrace each day as a gift from God, and see what He has in store for me! Thank you, Nikol for helping us to stay positive with our lives!

Gosh I needed to hear this. I copied this video and am going to send it to my sister. I think so many women need to hear this. I think what spoke to me the most for number 1, guilt from the past. I made so many mistakes in my life, starting from my teen years on and there are certain things I can seem to shake off. It's so ridiculous, and a total waste of time. Your right Nikol.

Since then I've lived my life my way & only care if my mum or best mates think I'm off the mark!😂❤. I am happy inside & out! My No1. You do not need anyone's approval but your own! Happy Sunday all. The sun is shining so going to Tatton for a route march!! Lx

Excellent video. 'Stop wearing the guilt of the past'. A heavy load for many of us. But, all we have is today and shouldn't waste it on 'what could have been'. A battle I've been struggling with myself about a relationship from 50 yr ago. Crazy! Moving on.

No need for external approval. from others. Self validation is where its at. and yes work life balance is important too. Keep up the spiritual wisdom Nikol I'm always here for it. Love & Light

Patricia, same, my grandma was born in the 1800s. It was all about reputation in the new world back then. Our parents guarded and protected us. I guess today we should relate to image building opportunities, our society has allowed us freedom and it’s up to us to make that work! Go for it.

Wow, thank you so much for this video. What you said is so very important to take away. Before lockdown I was in a very stressful job, that was making me ill, but i was terrified to stop. Lockdown made me realise that I could have a gearshift, redefine who I was, reacquaint with myself. I now work in a far less stressful environment, earning enough to help put my 2 children through college with the occasional small treat too. I care more about myself, my darling family, my time and my impact on those around me. I basically did what you are talking about in the video and I feel empowerment! Thank you for expressing these thoughts so eloquently ❤

YES!!! For much of my young time, we had a relative, an alcoholic, of my mother's who lived with us from time to time, and criticized us terribly for anything she could, even if it was a reach. Even now, some 45 years after she died, I'm still getting flashes of things that made no sense--because they didn't have anything to do with the situation at hand. I can see objectively how stupid they were, but will probably be working on dealing with it emotionally for a long time.
