I echo all other comments: you are a great teacher and painter! QUESTION: Did you skip the thumbnail sketch this time? if yes, was there a reason, and did it make the process harder?
@JessicaHenry
@JessicaHenry 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Maria, I did skip that step here, because when I began, my intention was only to do a study of the tree, but as I worked, it turned into a whole painting. I didn't find it too difficult, but I would recommend doing a sketch before beginning.

Thanks Charles, I haven't heard that one before, I had to look her up. Not sure I agree, but that's ok! haha! :) I typically get Amy Adams, in voice and looks, so a change was interesting!

Love this video, very helpful. My question is: why do you do the background after the tree? I used to start with the background and then paint the tree over the background, but the result is not satisfactory. Could you kindly elaborate why painting the tree first is beneficial? Many thanks.
@JessicaHenry
@JessicaHenry 4 жыл бұрын
I remember this video, I believe when I began my intention was just to paint the tree, but as I went on, I decided to add more. Sometimes I will work both at the same time, jumping back and forth. :)

I've done quite a number of watercolors lately, and as far as acrylics I don't prefer them, so I don't use them. Oils are much more forgiving.

@@JessicaHenry plz help us understand the canvas, paper and cloth for painting. What's for what and how to use them. I'm a hobby artist and most of the time I feel I could not make the right selection of canvas. And also guide how to use Gesso and when shud one need to use it.

I want to do plein air painting, but I'm kind of embarrassed to do it . Do people come up to u and bug u???
@JessicaHenry
@JessicaHenry 5 жыл бұрын
Haha! Yes, that definitely comes with the territory! But try not to be embarrassed. If you can just sort of laugh it off when people come up. I've had people say all SORTS of comments, and some were rude and some are nice, you just have to develop a thick skin. I think that most people mean well, and mostly they are curious and want to tell you that they can't draw a straight line or that their Aunt Midge is an artist, or...they want to talk about that artist on TV, Bob Ross! Haha!
