Something i have found having a toddler with autism, jumping and the fact that you love it is a Stim. I don't stop my baby from doing but I do supervise him. And the overdoing it thing is another thing I see a lot of people with Autism do. I said that just to say, girl, you are normal. Lol. It's fine, I love seeing you embrace it because there's nothing wrong with you, you just experience things in a different way . ♥️♥️♥️♥️

my grandparents on my stepdad's side built their own house in the like 70's and they built themselves an indoor pool. unfortunately they stopped using it long long before I was born so I never got to swim in it and I only ever saw it as this gigantic, filthy dusty concrete room with a huge pit (but my mom says they never had heating in the pool so it was always freezing cold, so it wasn't a great experience when it was in action back in the day) they mainly used that room for storage, and when they would watch me as a kid it would be one of my favorite rooms to play in. my favorite thing to do was get a storage tub lid and use it to sled down the slope where the shallow end got deep.

Every major injury has been to the same one though, and after breaking my foot (not my ankle, like I thought at first) a few years ago, when I probably tore everything in my ankle, it was worse than ever. I’m assuming you don’t live in Ontario, Canada. Where the Premier ran on an election campaign of better services for autistic children, then immediately scrapped the wait list and gutted the whole system. It’s been 4 years and children are just getting funding in the last 6 months or so. Meanwhile most kids who got some money for interim funding (to placate parents before another election) are still waiting.

ComicCon tip for the ankles! Get a doctor's note and contact them beforehand for a disability pass. It differs between cons (venues especially) but you can get an elevator pass, sit while waiting in line, use a path without stairs or shortcuts. And, if you can afford - rent a wheelchair for during the convention. It's okay to take it easy when you're hurt.

I feel for ya - I got a running injury (posterior tibial tendonitis) in fall 2021 in one ankle, ignored it and kept running but kinda babied the bad ankle, fucked up my other ankle, ended up on crutches, did rehab, did some hardcore training over summer 2022 when I wasn’t quite ready for it, and fucked up my knee because of the muscle imbalances caused by my ankle issues. Point being - please take care of yourself babes. Don’t try to “push through”. Better to take time off and heal fully than rush your recovery and then it snowballs into other injuries! 🫶🏼 But in the meantime, I highly recommend doing ankle stability stretches, once you’re able to move around more and only if your doctor okays it. Feel better hen!

Girl, I literally brushed my gums down to my roots because my anxiety makes me brush too hard. It’s the weirdest thing but having cold and sweet sensitivity in my early twenties is not the move. I swapped to a sonic air toothbrush which doesn’t require actual brushing, you just hold it over your teeth and it vibrates and does the work for you and it saved me from ruining my gums. Whatever you do, don’t research gum transplants unless you need motivation to stop brushing so hard😬

I added a pool below Movers & Shakers in Willow Creek, and yeah, swimming not counting as working out annoyed me too! EDIT: A few tricks I use in the athletic career: -Since you can study opponents on a TV, you can combine the working out which researching opponents with a TV near a treadmill for example -Since parties give a boost to the charisma skill, I have those early on to sort of cheat the charisma gains. A Gold dinner party or house party can add several levels in one go. I must admit I wish it wouldn't, it feels fairly cheesy, especially if you also do the taking photos of people to boost relationships! I prefer the Sims 3 thing where a party boosted the relationship with the people you invited, that feels much more sensible

I mean, I’ve heard it on TikTok, so it’s nothing scientific, but it made me think: What if neurodivergent people were hunters, not gatherers? It sounds so plausible! The anxiety? Sure, you’re always on edge if you could be chased by a predator at any moment. The sensitive senses? Sure your senses are heightened if you trained them to hear every noise, see better in the dark, smell traces of animals etc. The social awkwardness? Yeah, to coordinate a team of hunters you need crystal clear signs, not subtle communication. So dear autistic people, dear ad(h)d people and everyone else on the spectrums: We are hunters, these are our skills and powers.

3:30, on autism and 'the function' in early society: a fellow autistic homie of mine saw this tiktok from a person who grew up in an indigenous community where autistic folk are understood from birth to be a specific kind of healer and/or community member that requires training and also rituals to help with sensory overload and yeah i just think that the western conceptualisation of autism is so heavily dependant on 'purpose' being tied to 'neurotypical productivity' that it fails to see other ways of understanding who we are.

Psych student here (not qualified, but educated in the area) - YES we absolutely evolved with things like sensitivity to noise for adaptive reasons, so your family may well be descended from people living in an environment where this was a useful skill for survival. Sometimes we just retain characteristics that were once adaptive but have now become maladaptive for the present situation (we even do this within our own lives, not just through evolution). Any form of "mental illness" or neurodevelopmental "disorder" / neurodivergencies are just more extreme presentations of the spectrum of human characteristics. That's why everyone will find they relate to the symptoms of one or more official diagnoses, without necessarily being at clinical levels. Psychology has been shifting more and more towards the philosophy that something is not a disorder/illness unless it is significantly impacting your quality of life/impairing your ability to function. That is an essential criteria for many diagnoses, so that we aren't just diagnosing people for the sake of it - the purpose of a diagnosis is essential just a tool to guide us in optimal treatment and to assist in communicating your lived experience to others. BUT there is then also the whole topic of capitalism, because would some of these symptoms really impair our ability to function and quality of life if we weren't expected to function as a tool of capitalism? And are some diagnoses actually just a symptom of trying to survive under capitalism and a actually very normal reaction? Good psychology should always take context into account. ANYWAY very complex and interesting area for discussion and your instincts about that were are on point.

Educational Psychologist here! Totally agree, so many of the issues I see in schools are imo the byproduct of a system which is rigid and inflexible, and is ultimately trying to force neurodiverse people to just be neurotypical...

Don't know if you'll see this but I think I remember seeing LFCC is the comicon you're going to, summer last year the main seating area was upstairs on a carpeted bit, hope you have a good time.

Hypothetically I could be a jock as well. I love the feeling of calm while training. And how I feel afterwards. It's pure joy. HOWEVER my body is like: you were training? Nice, how about another angina that'll keep you from training? And then I get back into training and I twist my knee. After getting back into training AGAIN, I get covid and another angina. Then a severe cold. Shoulder pain, knees hurting. I constantly go back to 0 and now I'm frustrated and sick of it.

Omg I’m the SAME with watching tv with working out! In college I held tv shows hostage that I was “only allowed to watch at the gym” (it kinda worked??)

4:59. Because same. I get matching pyjamas but most of them come with long sleeve tops. I can't regulate my body temperature so I rarely wear the top with it. You just find me wearing some random ass top from a different set.

Buying a matching pjs set to just wear the trousers really hit home, I say sat here wearing pj trousers from a primary matching set with absolutely no knowledge of the whereabouts of the top…
