Definitely useful video. Went to turn the rads on in the sun lounge and BOTH valves started to leak. No movement in the nuts so no way to "nip them up". TRV on both it is then. We've got older gravity fed system.

Didn't see him add jointing compound (such as Boss White) in this video. Pre-compressing the new olive is also an important thing to do. I'd prefer to drain down the whole system if it were my house. Gives you more time to do it right, and not have to worry about an uncontrolled leak.

Lol, I just spent most of yesterday installing a new radiator for the first time in ages and I spent faaaar to long trying to see if I should use PTFE or locktite on the radiator insert, and bosh next day here you are with just the video, ah well

Thanks for another great video. I have a LOUD banging sound from one of my TRV's which I did not have before installing Tado. It only happens sometimes, do you think I need to replace the trv?

Hello. Can the water temperature sensor in the electric boiler show an incorrect value and turn the water heating on and off with errors due to an air plug if the cold water filter was not fully tightened?

I tape up the end of my thumb with electrical tape . That pipe end will create a perfectly circular cut. You're welcome

I have the same cast iron radiators. I’m getting a crusty residue between the joints of each radiator panel What does this mean?

TADO are on special offer at the moment, Amazon offering the best deal currently. And no, I have no affiliation to the corporate giant. I have just installed TADO wired room stat and rad valves, so far seems to be great. I could leave the original controller but TADO controls the temperature.

Maybe it doesn’t have a trv on because it is the bypass radiator

Hi James, thanks for the vids. If I install Tado trv’s in a 2 or 3 level home(townhouse) do I still need to have Zone valves installed to zone the heating system? Cheers

I'd leave them in because it's less hassle than removing them and just cut the wires off that go into them. Easy job

Don’t just look at Tado. Compare it to Drayton Wiser. I installed it last September. Amazing system. It’s reduced our gas consumption by 20%. I fitted it to 13 radiators. The house is a single zone with a Combi boiler. Each room you set up in the app can call for heat independently of the other rooms. You set a schedule for each room and then let do its thing.

Good advice 👍👍 Q, when you put on the new valve is it possible to shut off the valve so before fitting so that when its fitted to the pipe end the water will not flow out forcing us to quickly connect the radiator end at the same time. Or am i rambling?

Yup, a good tip is to connect the TRV head to the valve and turn it off so you only need to snatch one end

get any paint off it to get bleed key to fit...use grips/pliers....Best to just buy a new one and fit it, once loose... dereton33 has simple fixes on his channel

Smart TRVs like Tado are great unless you're in the room with one, especially the bedroom. The noise it makes when it adjusts the valve does my head in so I've opted to only have them in rooms I rarely use.

Acts as a bypass on your system, so if all the other TRVs shut off the system has a point to circulate and dissipate heat through.

It’s the room with the thermostat in so it can turn the heating on and off when the temperature of the room is adequate.

You don't install a TRV in a room with the room thermostat. The TRV may shut down the radiator before selected room temperature set on the room thermostat is reached and as a result the thermostat may never shut off your boiler.

@@alanmacleod9464 Alan, thanks for pointing this out. Does it follow that there could be two rads without TRVs, the one with the room stat and the bypass rad? Or is it better to have the bypass function performed by a bypass circuit some where near the pump?

Radiators have two rad valves. Slightly close off the lock shield valves of the hottest radiators, Also make sure the cooler radiators are fully open. Keep in mind to check against air in the radiator and the combi boiler is above 1 bar

IoT is generally a very bad idea, "the cloud" means you're using and relying on somebody else's server. You bought it, but in reality you don't really own it. What happens if they go bust and the servers are shutdown? Your 3 year old TRVs are deemed too old to support and now you need to upgrade them? Or they suddenly decide it is now a £10 per month subscription? All of these things have happened, and will again...

My boiler is 40 years old as are my radiators. The only controls I have are an electric timer that allows for Off, Twice a day, All Day, or Constant, and a heat control knob that goes from 0 - 6. I never have to worry about water pressure, gas pressure, or the overflow freezing in the winter and shutting everything down. I don't need or want your modern unreliable garbage.

you can airlock/vacuum a pressurised system too . This method is pretty amateur . no need for drain hoses

Not being funny but just drain the system down if there’s a drain cock n never touch a gate valve, they always stick shut and snap when you try to open them
