The Cockatiel habitat is explored to make this video. These birds are crested like a cockatoo but have the slender lines of a long tailed parrot and fly like a swift parrot. A previous video on cockatiels is now ipdated to include more flock behaviour

@@decayedcake1245 Yup, my family got little Oliver in Jan/Feb of 1991, when I was 12. He was hatched in Nov of 1990. My mom always regretted not finding out his actual hatch date. Anyway, my mom used to joke that if anything happened to her (my dad passed in '96), that I'd need to take care of him(my brother has a kid and cats). I thought, "yeah right". But, almost 4 years ago she passed from pancreatic cancer and I've been taking care of him since. He is utterly spoiled. Mostly eats human food, and is always out of his cage. He's always been an angry bird. I've always joked that anger has fueled him all these years. But, he is adorable. I've lived with my wife for 3 years now, and though he tolerates her, I and my brother are the only people he shows genuine affection towards. Other than some arthritis that he occasionally presents in his left foot he is otherwise healthy and active.

Watching this from the United States. :) Thank you so much for sharing this gorgeous footage of cockatiels in the wild! Given the extensive footage and very informative commentary, I would imagine it takes a lot of time to make these videos! I am the caretaker of three rescue cockatiels, and your videos are helping provide me with ideas for the dream aviary I am working on for them. It's not the same as flying free in the skies of Australia, but I still want to give them the best life possible. Thank you so, so much for this helpful and educational content!!!

News report in Pennsylvania said a Cockatiel was found that had been missing 3 YEARS. Somehow this tropical bird survived 3 harsh winters in the north United States. I didn’t think they could survive cold weather like that but apparently they can. Makes me wonder if it migrated south by itself and flew back ?? Birds have a amazing way of doing that

Being birds of the desert and semi-arid regions of Australia, rather than truly 'tropical' birds, they are adapted to cope with both very hot days and very cold nights with freezing temperatures where they are exposed to the elements...... not as cold as the Northern US, but they can certainly tolerate colder conditions than the true tropical parrots.

Great channel! Subscribed! Cockatiels belong to the cockatoo family which is part of the parrot family. Hybrids occur when species are very much related; hybrids between Cockatiel and Galah called Galatiel do exist. Parrots all have the combination of hooked bills and zygodactylus feet (two toes facing front and two toes facing back).

Dont be fooled by cockatiels diminutive size. They are so full if character and makes wonderful companions. Also can live 30 years . We are a cockatiels fanatics household. Weve had several over my fifty years . I had a white faced male. He was tge mist incredible burd ever. Calling him a bird just cant do justice to him and his position as the head of the house 😂. Its broken my heart hes not here with us anymore. We also had a beautiful lutino called Monty who we thought was male but turned out he was a she lol 😆. But he wasnt a very well bird and he passed away only aged two 😢. My father in law made him a beautiful lead coffin all decorated with engraving. He was our first ever as adults in our house ( my dad had tgem when i was a kid ) but tgey lived in a aviary. Ours lived indoors. After three years of not having them,( we vowed necer to get anymore after our beloved wally left us 😢😢😢) We got him as a companion for our first bird when my partner and i moved in together sixteen yesrs ago. We got him because we were working long hours in the catering world. We got what we thought was a female but un fact he was all male, and was very dominant and sung constantly. He was amazing. He could learn new tunes easily and had a decent repertoire inc star wars darth vader tune , the good the bad and the ugly, smoke on the water by deep purple, the got theme slong with various whistles and sound effects. He was incredible. Even though no two are alike and all are very much individuals with their own character and flaws 😂 . They are very affectionate and loved nothing more than spending time with you. Loved head rubs and would fly on your plate to steal your food at meal times. At one point we had three and the more the better!!. The other two came from a house were they didn't want to spend any time with them and complained about their noise. It was cos they were bored. Also even though they came from the same house they were never allowed to be together abd were separated in two cages in tge same room so would call out to each other. They wete okd when we got them and were not used to be handled. But it took months but we got them used to us and would sit next to us on the sofa. We found we gained their trust using food. Especially little nibbles of ours. They loved mature cheddar over anything. And spelt crackers or oat cakes. If you ever get the chance snd want a loving pet / companion then you cant get better than a cockatiel but please try not to get from a pet shop especially from a big company pet stores as they can be weak and have all sorts of health issues. Uf buying one try to get from a local breeder especially in sn aviary where they are used to flying. Also a responsible breeder won't allow them to go to their new home until they are a certain age and usually used to handling. But if you get one please make sure you have all the right supplies and facilities for them like a good sized cage where there is plenty of riom for them to get about. Register with a vet and try to get goid quality food. Also make sure tgey have lots of toys for their cage including spares so you can change their cage so they don't get bored. Put in the time and effort and you will be rewarded with an incredible little character who will genuinely love you sbd will sung to you ( definitely if they are male) . If you want quiet then a female may be better but if you can try to get a male. Especially a dominant feisty little bugger as IMHO tgey make the absolute best and will entertain you al the time. Also remember to civer tfem with a blanket or a curtain. They are so much in such a little package. Like a little flying puppy lol 😂

This is their natural colours in the wild different colours are from being bred that way like budgies they are only green in the wild no other colours survive long enough to pass on their genes
