The skin on our lips is much thinner than the skin on our face. So our lips are around 3-5 cell layers thick whilst the skin on the rest of the face can be unto 16 cell layers thick and that’s why our lips are pinker because can see the blood vessels underneath

They also have no sebaceous glands meaning our lips don’t produce oils and sebum, saliva is the only moisture our lips get however, our saliva can also dry out our lips.
So we do need to be doing a little more for our lips, in my opinion, than just using a lip balm.
