I can tell you as a person who works on coin pushers that specific coin pusher has a built lip that is made to A.) Make the coins/prizes slide back if not enough push is given and B.) Make the coins pile up on the lip to give the effect of looking like it will topple in. P.S. You're right in order to get small prize coins or even prize cards to go in they must have some sort of weight to go over the edge or something behind it to prevent it from sliding back. I'm obsessed with coin pushers and these arcade machines are built to frustrate, entertain, and excite players (also to make coin pusher owner some nice cash on the side, lol).
