Wow! What a fabulous project. I always wanted an out door a-frame metal swing when I was a child but there was no money for such luxuries and so I had various swings made from single ropes dangling from tree branches, not always comfortable and sometimes the rope broke but they were such fun. It never occurred to me to make an indoor swing, nor that one could make such a beautiful machine without damaging the decor. Re-ignited all manner of ideas in my mind and I now think a swing is on the agenda. Thank you for inspiring me!

That's a great project Laura. I hope you get a lot of use out of it while you're @. I had to call my wife in when you brought out the Girl Scout Handbook to ask her how old it was. She has that same book from when she was in Girl Scouts as a girl. She was a co-leader for the troop her sister was in for 5 years after graduating from Girl Scouts herself, and has been a leader for her own troop for the last 24 years. In total, she has been in Girl Scouts for 42 years.

It's the type of wall that would influence my decision. A standard brick wall (Germany) holds your weight easily. But a drywall and stud wall is maybe not to easy. But with this one you're on the safe site.
@Beef4Dinner22
@Beef4Dinner22 4 жыл бұрын
@@atariks1475 most drywall and stud framing has a large header above the door. In the US it is generally two 2" x 8" boards (~ 50mm x 200mm) nailed face to face (with a piece of 1/2 plywood in between) to make it the thickness of the wall and spanning the space above the door. You then have jack studs (sometimes called trimmer studs) that go from the floor up to the top edge of the door frame, and the header rests on the jack studs. Outside the jack studs you have two full height king studs that run from the floor plate to the crown plate (top of wall), and the jack studs are nailed to this all the way up. This header would be more than strong enough to hold a person on a swing. There is an image of it in this article: www.finehomebuilding.com/2009/01/14/frame-a-door-rough-opening

If you had the carabiners hanging down from the frame on their own loops of rope, you could tie multiple loops in the swing's ropes to quickly disconnect and change the length of swing.

Hot damn this video is refreshing! Solid, perfectly elegant design, every detail considered, and stylish, playful execution! You, pal, are a human treasure. I'm a little scared for you with that girth hitch onto the carabiner tho, that's gonna slip or give way with use. Anchor hitch is way more reliable, I used to be a climbing arborist and I'd never use anything else to tie onto a 'biner. Solid as a rock, not too hard to learn, easy to untie when the time comes.
