It is June of 1998 and the PM rush hour is well underway at 125th St. We see an assortment of equipment used by Metro-North during this time. The 1100's are still in service as are the FL9'S and FL9AC's, M1A, M2, and M3A series commuter cars. Note that during this time, there were only three tracks in service because of the ongoing viaduct replacement. Track three (northbound local) was out of service, leaving only tracks 2,4 and 1 for service. Also note the northbound platform had yet to be replaced and still had the original canopy on it.

Harlem 125 Street was in the middle of a massive renovation. The outbound platform out of Grand Central had yet to be renovated when this video was filmed and one track was out of service because they were replacing the viaduct.

I remember riding ACMU trains being pulled by a couple of diesel engines on Huson Line in January of 1996 because of heavy snow that blanketed the region. The train cars got so packed that the engineer skipped a bunch of stations as we made our way to the GCT.

Those FL9's have awesome horns! What line is the White, Blue, Red paint scheme? I love the New Haven line paint scheme especially on FL9's and P32C-DM's. Also this is literally all I know about the MTA Commuter System. Other than what lines there are (I have a map), the fact that train carry converters for Direct Currents from third rails because there prohibited from using diesel power inside the tunnel into Grand Central. I loving learning about these things so I subed too!

Unfortunately, since they were allowed to run diesel for emergencies, they had a lot of "emergencies". I remember being in Grand Central Terminal in 1987, and it was full of diesel smoke. From what I read on rec.railroad, apparently the workers got tired of having trouble getting the diesel engines started back up when coming out of the tunnels, so they would just run diesel all the time.

Running diesel, as you can hear. They are supposed to run off the 3rd rail when in the tunnels, but at least when I was in Grand Central Terminal in 1987, they ran diesel in the tunnels as well, filling the station with diesel exhaust (ackph). Reportedly this was due to trouble getting the diesel engines started back up when coming out of the tunnels.
