Varun, I passed my PMP Dec 5 2021 and you are a huge part to that. You know your stuff and can also teach it really well. You were recommended by one of my friends who bought your course and he and I both are in your debt. It's not enough to know Project Management, but the value you provide which I appreciated is you made us understand PMI's perspective on Project Management and THAT is key! again, thank you sir, you rock!!

Thank you for very nice video with crisp explanation. What key takeaway points from this video is - Predictive - well defined scope, up front planning, allow minimum changes Iterative - Prototype, refinement cycles, make it perfect, one final delivery at the end - making product perfect where scope is complex and changing. Incremental - time boxed iteration (sprints), go feature live after each increment, deliver the value customer in each increment - speed of delivery is goal Agile - when complex and changing requirements which needs to implemented as perfect also with speedy delivery then we use mix of iterative and incremental which is agile. In this two types - 1)time based agile (sprint time with specific fixed time for all iteration) - Scrum 2) Flow based agile (no fixed timeboxing , take next task from backlog once you complete current) - Here how many tasks you can work at a time is controlled (WIP- work in progress) Hybrid - Mix of predictive + Agile - Here project decides which activities needs to be done in predictive which to be done agile. This life cycle will be accepted by the team how are moving newly from predictive to agile.

Hi Varun, for the second question on development life cycle, I chose Iterative (B) because I felt the question stated "making it completely functional" which signifies final delivery once at the end and I know iterative produces one single deliverable at the end.
@EduHubSpot
@EduHubSpot 3 жыл бұрын
Thats an excellent thought process. In incremental also the final delivery makes it completely functional. I will give you a real example. PMP exam changed and I had to update my slides, videos and questions. I updated each one of them and I launched it one after the other but it was only after the 3rd iteration when I would call my product complete because it had all videos, questions and slides fully ready.

Hi Varun, First and foremost thanks for all your efforts and support for everyone preparing for PMP, thats mind blowing. Last question I got it wrong, I thought it is Iterative with the rationale who mentioned in the question that to fully make it functional. I thought Iterative is fully functional only in the last. But your explanation gave me some clarity with the example " Building" . I'm worried that in exam I might quickly chose a wrong answer between Iterative and Incremental.

Thanks for the video, Varun!! I believe the answer to the 2nd question would be Iterative, not incremental. Because in incremental we don't do sprints or reviews.Also, all the activities are performed only once per iteration. In Incremental, we keep on updating until perfection. So, B is my answer.

Well, it depends upon the industry as to which approach to adopt. For construction projects, we go for Waterfall and for IT projects we settle with Agile. I have served a decade leading projects in Waterfall approach so I am comfortable with it :) In IT the projects are incremental and require a lot of iterations

Question # 2: "After your final iteration, your product will be completely functional": This made me to consider B as a right answer as in predictive and iterative products are delivered as one complete package and as one product unlike incremental and agile where products are delivered in phases

Hi Varun, in the sample question(at 23.45 mins) where the option is to select the right project lifecycle, the answer should be Iterative Lifecycle. If you refer to your earlier explanation (at 10.15 mins) in Incremental Lifecycle the customer accepts the product piece by piece (or floor by floor) not at the final point. This question the customer is accepting the product as one final deliverable. Pls throw some light..
@EduHubSpot

Thats an excellent thought process Rajesh and this is where the confusion happens. Key statement in the question is that "after final iteration the product will be fully functional". Let me explain you this with another real life example. I am launching my new 2021 with incremental life cycle approach. What do you mean by that is that my simulator contains 3 things: 1. Test Questions 2: Videos 3: Slides So what I did was first I completed the slides and I made it live for general public to purchase. Like in this case, I was adding more and more functionality in each iteration. Then in second increment, I went ahead and finished my test questions and I made it live for general public. Then in third and final increment, I finished my videos and I made it live for general public to purchase. It was in the 3rd iteration that my product was fully functional. The same example in iterative life cycle would have been that I completed everything together and made it live only once. Varun

In this question it is not mentioned anywhere that the product is viable before its last iteration , product is completely functional at end only. I took key work 'Completely functional I.e. customer acceptance ' Product is delivered at the end of final iteration in iterative life cycle only.

C IS MY PICK ADDING MORE FUNCTIONALITY IN EACH ITERATION IS INCREMENTAL LIFE CYCLE
@valmuk8089

Q1. The answer is B. Agile planning is progressive. Waterfall planning is mainly done upfront and that eliminates A& D. As agile planning is not done upfront but progressively, that eliminates also A. And B is the correct answer though the just in time concept was not taught in the notes.... Q.2. The answer is C. The question makes it clear that more functionality will be added in each iteration but that after every iteration you have a finished product.... I referred to the example you gave in the lesson😊

B, because you have series of iterations until perfection. After final iteration the product is ready to be completely functional.

Time 24:00 , Is it not iterative? In iterative, we have one final working product, but in incremental , we will have many working products. The question tells that the product will be fully functional at the final iteration. So is it not iterative?

C : We are using an Incremental Life cycle, as we will be adding features or functionality one iteration at a time until the final product is ready at the end of the last iteration. A: In predictive we develop the feature as a single product from start to finish. B: Iterative could be but as we are adding features during each iteration and not refining the product at every iteration. D : Hybrid is not in scope as its incremental approach is fixed already.

Q#1 the answer is B as agile is iterative and incremental, incremental means just in time/ speedy delivery. waterfall model is based on certainity/ lots of experience and therefore it 'doesn't' need iterations

Answer B, because agile planning is iterative and just in time, after every iteration they handover the product to customer in time.

using elimination tech, waterfall is not iterative, Agile planning is iterative and just in time good choice Agile planning is not done upfront - wrong choice waterfall planning is done at first b is good choice. 2nd question: perfection at end, so i choose iterative, explanation ensured i have different understanding
@MrArshpreetdude
@MrArshpreetdude Ай бұрын
Waterfall planning is not iterative rather it is predictive, you are doing all the planning, designing upfront before going it to next stage, so option a is eliminated. In agile we don't do the planning in upfront rather requirements keep on changing, so option c is also eliminated. In waterfall planning is not done in phases rather upfront in the initial stages, so option d is a wrong statement. So only option left is b which is correct that agile planning is iterative because you keep on working until prototype is perfect and it is on time because we have timeboxes for every iteration. @varun sir- Please correct me if i am wrong with my explanation.

Hi Varun, I am confused here in a question which belong to life cycle , I hope answer should be iterative as in incremental we give partial product/feature and that should be worthful, as per this question product will be completely functional after last iteration i.e. product is delivered at last and the same is done in iterative only.

Question 2: Answer is B because the deliverable is delivered at the end, but the development and work are done in iterations. This conflicts with A, where planning and development is done sequentially, conflicts with C where the deliverable is delivered early on in chunks after each iteration, and conflicts with D, because there is no mention of combining Agile and predictive.

Question 2 @ 24:06 - I've guessed the answer as (B), based on keywords that says "The product will be fully functional after the final iteration". Since in question, there are no quick delivery, or partial delivery, or stage-wise delivery mentioned.

Option A Predictive life cycle - Reasoning is the project manager have pre planned, divided the product development into series of iterations and the product will be completely functional after final iteration. (Start to finish is planned ahead of time)

On the second question, I understand why you selected Incremental. However the fact that on the "final iteration, your product will be completely functional" gives the impression it wasn't functional before that. Therefore it shouldn't be Incremental as the early deliverables weren't operating? Shouldn't it be iterative?
@EduHubSpot
@EduHubSpot 3 жыл бұрын
That is a very valid point. So question stated that after final iteration product will be fully ready which means you assumed that initially it was not functional. What if I assume that initially it was not fully functional but atleast little bit functional and it was only after the final one, it was completely ready.
