liam williamson Honestly I don't remember the name of the site now, but I just searched for custom rubber stamps and found a place that did it pretty cheaply. If you have access to a CNC machine, you can make them very easily with it.

Great vid. For many years I would take 6-8 large index cards and pass through the sewing machine at the center fold on the stitch and trim even on 3 sides for a pocket note book.

This and Sea Lemon's vids are what I have to thank for making my own notebooks and sketchbooks without having to spend too much money! The only thing that I wish this video included was slowly cutting the edge of the finished notebook with an exacto knife/box-cutting knife and ruler to people that do want an even edge option. 📓📔📒

You make it look so easy, I gave it a go. I had tools except for paper cutter, and as such, everything kept being uneven. I made a notebook eventually, but it ain't for public consumption. Thanks good video.

Seems like the cover's width needed to be 4-5 mm wider to accomodate for the folding pages inside.

Saddle stitching, you notice how the inner pages tend to extend out a bit beyond the outer pages and cover, in the printing industry we call that "creep" and on booklets with a bunch of pages we had to compensate for that by moving the images progressively in toward the spine on the inner pages, then after saddle stitching take the booklets to a high speed paper cutter and cut off the open end....not to go on, but we also set the books up in signature format. Yeah was in the printing industry for 40 years...

***** Ah, didn't know that had a name, but yes I saw it as soon as I started making them. I went back on some and trimmed off the excess, but without a powerful cutter, that's pretty tedious. Thanks for the info!

Hey Bob! That's a great idea, I tend to burn through notebooks pretty fast. What's your policy on people monetizing your ideas? I recently started a store myself to support my own KZfaq channel and would love to sell some notebooks of my own, but I really don't want to step on any toes. Cheers!

Switch & Lever Thanks so much for asking, I appreciate that! I don't mind people monetizing the ideas. I didn't research it, but SURELY I'm not the first person to show how these are made, so I can't assume any ownership over the idea. Mainly, I was just sick of paying for Field Notes ;) Good luck!

as I use 2 or 3 of the old black composition notebooks a year, these are a great addition....I like the size of the small version composition books but only the large ones come with graph paper option...so these solve that....plus, the first one i made i used heavy paper (no bristol board at home) but then layered that with floral fabric....I like to build furniture but I enjoy a girly notebook to carry around my plans..... thanks so much for your details...will be hunting for the corner trimmer....

If you don't have a long-throated stapler, you can use this little trick: Stack about three or four pieces of scrap corrugated cardboard under your work and flip your stapler open into the "tacking" position. Carefully lay out your project and staple through the spine and into the cardboard. Then, simply pull the book off and press down the staple ends with your fingertip or any plastic tool. Not elegant, but it gets the job done. BTW, I love your notebook, and I'm going to make some this week!

Hey. It could be interesting to have a part 2 showing how to properly bind a book, since this technique won't work with more than a few pages. And showing how to make the back of the book sewn, for real nice notebooks. Possible for a home-maker ? Don't know. But could be interesting to learn.
