Welcome to Junk Journal January 2024! Let’s start the #JunkJournalJanuary challenge with a ‘pocket of potential’ as a way of including our resolutions for 2024 with an upcycled pocket to my first journal page. Get inspired with creative ideas to write and decorate your resolutions. Think of it as a pep talk for your inner artist. :) So grab your junk journal, gather your supplies, and get ready to create your ‘pocket of potential’!
What is Junk Journal January?
Junk Journal January is a free month-long junk journaling challenge to inspire you to create in your art journal. Hosted by megjournals in collaboration with ⁠⁠‪@GetMessyArt‬, it’s a great chance to kickstart your creativity in 2024 with a supportive community and show up to your journal! Perfect for beginners or if you're looking for inspiration.
Junk journaling prompts
Follow the prompt list and create along each day using #JunkJournalJanuary - or pick and choose the prompts that take your fancy. There are no rules. You can use the prompts with other types of journaling too.
30 artists collaboration
Each day throughout the month, watch a new video from 30 different creators on KZfaq. Create a journal page alongside them for the day’s prompt.

THANK YOU!!!!! This is my 1st JJ January... I'm nervous & excited at the same time. This is really inspirational tho! I'm a horrible perfectionist trying to "let go" more. This is simple but SOOOOO absolutely gorgeous. A true inspiration :)

Try to remember junk journaling is for fun. We get to tear paper, glue stuff and doodle. No rules, no right or wrong. Just a peaceful activity to bring you joy. Let the perfectionism go. Also, telling my self I don't have to post it on Ig if I don't want to helps. Signed a mostly reformed perfectionist. 😅

Such a sweet first page, full of texture. I really don't like my own handwriting so rarely use it but the way resolutions looks through your pocket is so effective. This is my first year doing this challenge and i am a little nervous but im looking forward to getting lots of inspiration from you and everyone TFS 😊

I used to hate my handwriting and would never use it in my kids scrapbooks. One day a lady said to me "how do you feel when you see your Mom's handwriting?" 🥹 From that point on, I use my own handwriting in most of my art and journaling. It is meaningful and a part of you. It doesn't need to be perfect. 💖

@@kathylovesmk my children said something similiar to me about the fact I would never be in photos. Which is why now I take lots of photos with me in and even use them in my crafts, especially October and December daily journals. I never thought about the handwriting in that way too so thank you for the advice 😊

My journal I made, I don’t think I used enough plain pages. That’s why I only wrote my resolutions. I love what you have done X🌸X

If you didn't add enough pages to start, you can add "tip ins". To do this you just tape another page near the center fold with washi or clear tape. Or you can tape and extra piece to the edge of a page that folds in. It's really easy, just search junk journal tip ins on KZfaq, and you will find tons of tutorials. OR, you can use your book for Jan 1st - 15th, and make a second book for the rest of the month. 😊 To me, half the fun of junk journaling is having these type of issues come up and finding creative ways to fix it. Thanks for the tips. I worded my comment wrong. I meant to say, I’ve put too many pages in my journal that aren’t plain. So I’ve painted over some of the writing on book pages etc. X🌸X

Very pretty. I purchased some glassene bags a couple of days ago to use in a journal. I usually get mental block when wanting to do these and then I don’t, but I’m hoping to incorporate a couple of challenges to inspire some daily me time.

I've noticed that you use glue sticks. I've heard that one shouldn't, because it gives out after about one year. Have you experienced any issue using them? Or is it a matter of finding the right glue stick, I.e. not water soluble?

Not really! Some off-brand ones I've had that experience but Pritt Stick has always been great for me. (Though I am in the UK, so maybe in warmer climates it may not fair as well?)
