It seems like an oddly arbitrary decision considering the 4a and 5 are nearly identical. Heck, if you have the 5G version of the 4a, it literally has the same processor as the 5.

Just found this app and love it! This gives me a good reason to stick with the Pixel line. I just hope this gets plenty of promotion to Pixel users to become an essential, and hence long-supported app. Nice work TE, thank you!

with USB-C you can just connect what audio interface you want very easily. I plug one into my iPad mini I have 2in2out balanced IO with mic pres with phantom, and full size midi I/O. Very handy.

This was a commission from Google. iOS / iPad OS is way better for music / musicians for lots of reasons. But Android is way better for emulating old consoles etc

I could install this yesterday but Google uninstalled it from my Sony phone. There's no reason to limit this to pixel phones apart from artificial scarcity (trying to get people to buy pixels).

I heard it's because the app uses the new Google tensor chip with all the AI processing built in to do what it does, so it wouldn't work on older pixels with Qualcomm processors.

@@MrMissionkid Its available on the Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5a. All of these phones have snapdragon chips (not tensor) that are weaker than the 2019 Pixel 4's chip. The limitation is arbitrary

Paid exclusive? Limiting the release of an app to a specific smartphone brand, while it could perfectly run on all Android devices, I hope you got a nice check from Google for that. The vast majority of your customers that don’t have a Pixel phone can go jump in the lake. I think the ad would have been better received if posted by Google to their potential clients rather than here where I hardly think anyone will buy a new smartphone because of a single app. Often it looks as if TE is either telling us they don’t need retail clients because they make enough money as a (talented) design consultancy office, or showcasing the most creative ways to alienate their existing customers and fanbase. I’m not talking about TE’s expensive products because they can reflect the authentic constraints of the costs of design and manufacturing with high quality. A paid exclusive, especially for a very tiny segment of the market, is a disingenuous constraint.

Android is very ununiform platform. It's very expensive and almost impossible to make it work for all Android devices, it's also much worse platform for audio apps in comparison to iOS. That's why developers hate Android and the majority of great apps are on iOS only. Another reason is that the Android users don't pay for the apps mostly and just use sideloaded cracked apps.

What a pity it's really a bad choice of the team. I don't see why my 4a pixel can't benefit from the application. Unfortunately, you miss a lot of creativity. Pocket operators are mostly instruments of poor musicians. With this choice you miss a lot of creativity.

I saw Red Means Recording's demonstration of this app. For anyone else that has seen the app in action, do you share my feelings that this is one of the best things TE has made? The user-friendly guises make it a lot easier to navigate than other TE hardware, and I'm honestly suprised at the number of fun features packed into it. I don't have a Pixel, but I hope to use this app sometime on android (if it becomes available). If this app ever comes to other devices (even for a fee,) it's could print money. Or, if advertised the right way, drive sales for some musicians and artists looking for a new phone. I can see this app transforming musical media on the internet, or at the very least, becoming essential in some music performances in online content. 🤔 It looks like an easier way to get into sampling and making music videos, and I could see the clips becoming memeable hits on youtube shorts, instagram, and tiktok.

People, it's hardware-specific because it's using the AI processing from the Tensor core. Maybe if your phone has some other kind of AI accelerator that can run TensorFlow apps, Google could adapt it for your hardware platform, but it's not some arbitrary, insidious decision. Perhaps Teenage Engineering could also cut down some of the AI-specific features like the automatic sample detection and release it more broadly that way for those who would manually obtain samples, anyway?

TBH, Maybe as to do with the spotty android standards with audio, which is Apple's strong point , but yeah works well, got a couple of jams going :-) I bet if it gets enough traction it will be out for eveeyone. It says beta so yeah :-)
