🔥 video. Thats one of my worst fears, he handled it like a legend. I pissed off some tourists the other week when i released a shark and they wanted to take pictures with it. Dealing with a pissed off sandbar with a crowd phones out asking if we were going to "put it on the pit" etc. Turned it into a teaching moment explaining species, and the importance of fish health being first. Should have driven down further.

🤣🤣 Dude that happens all the time to us. People want to jump in and act like they caught the shark. Lol. Yes man Poco is a role model of how we should conduct ourselves and I loves how he acknowledged the harm the picture has done and that advice he gave.

Glad to hear the story behind this. I saw a pic on facebook about this big hammer, but I didnt hear all the other details that went with it. I wondered why the pic I saw was so far up on the beach, and glad to hear all the background story behind this. I just wish this info could be more mainstream.

Great video. I've been wanting to meet Poco . I'm from Corpus but haven't ran into him yet. Seems like a real cool guy. 600 yard drop not bad for a fish that size. Some ppl go like 2000 yard drops which I think is insane.

Way to far for our tastes. I mean if it was consistently producing fish we'd send it that far, pending frys.

This is an excellent video. You are killing it Travis with interview type videos. Very original, and great content. I’ll probably watch it a second time. As for the situation, you’d have to be an idiot to thank that Poco intentionally killed the shark. Additionally, you’d have to be extremely ignorant to think the shark died because of recklessness by Poco. He’s been fishing, and LBSF, for over 20 years!!! There is no way under any circumstance that he was doing things that would kill the shark. No experienced LBSF man wants a dead 14’ shark on the beach to deal with. Absolutely NO way. It’s very unfortunate that the shark died, but evidently it happened. And I don’t fault Poco. You catch a fish like that, and it does accidentally die, absolutely take pictures of it. Take lots of them. As responsible fisherman, it’s on us to do everything we can to keep the fish healthy. But things do happen, and sometimes a fish doesn’t make it. But when that happens it does not necessarily mean the fisherman did anything wrong. And in the case of Poco, based on his reputation and his experience, he did absolutely everything he could to release the fish alive but it just didn’t work in this particular instance. And he handled it the very best way possible after the fact. Good job Poco!

Dude Poco handled it like a champion if you pay attention to the details he's actually a great role model in this situation. Also consider this, the power of public perception and the power of a single people. The man and his family got death threats despite outstanding practices. Got to protect yourself in many ways. What a great angler Poco is.

Was Poco's hammer gut hooked, how hot was the water? A hr seems fast for it to die of exhaustion. As far as drag goes the earlier you apply heavy drag the less momentum they get, its harder for them to get line so usually take less and shortens fight time. 12 ft to 13ft can be like a 800lb weight difference. Teeners are something else. Its sad to say a lot of the big fish die 12+ size and almost every 14ft shark Ive heard of died and had to be disposed of. Every story is the same too AFTER measuring and photos we couldnt revive it. I dont measure most big fish I just call them a class of fish if they are similar in size to ones Ive caught, 6ft class 7ft class 10ft class 12ft class. Then there is the teener class fish, the true giants and rare fish. Ive caught 2 teener class fish a tiger and hammer. If you ever claim teener be prepared to be blasted on it if it isnt a certified giant in pictures or taped in the picture, and even then expect the drama. I also dont pose for photos unless its a perfect scenario of strong fish and quick release. I just get someone to get a video of the landing and release process. Photos and measuring take at least a minute every time on big fish. Hard fighting giants got to be in the surf and out the surf in like 3 minutes from leader to swimming on its own. Gut hooking, rough surf and handling all are factors usually. Ive been lucky to have all my big fish jaw hooked and power of strong. I had a big tiger I thought might die from a crazy situation but I revived it for a few minutes and watched it come to life. I think it was mostly disoriented and shook up. Had it been a hammer it would of probably died.

This is a tough one for me. Happy to see the content 🙌 👍 When something happens outside the realm of what an angler tries to do it can be taken in a negative way to some people. Not only an angler but any person in a profession that the outcome ends different than intended. Police officer - kills someone with a tazer Surgeon - saves a life but leaves forceps inside of the patient Fishman - going out to fish for monsters - tagging & taking DNA samples to help spread knowledge & lengthen the time we get to enjoy these great creatures- not being 10000000000% ready in all aspects of tackle & or physical stamina or anything else that can possibly occur during a fish fight or battle... These things unintended Are and will forever be the things that settle in people differently.. With this can we ask the question Is one life of earth's creatures or living things more or less important? Than the mass It's tough I love fishing The lows are low The highs are high & everything between is what it is lol If this was war would this be considered collateral damage? ? Trying to make peace Death is just the fall out......

Well said my dude. Difficult topic to cover, but in my eyes also very important to understand and also put yourself in his shoes. What would you do? The emotions alone when 50-60 people surround you is heavy. Not an easy situation

Another great thing about this video….. I have never hooked up to anything even close to 14’ long, BUT, having seen this video, in case I did get that giant hookup someday, I will be much better prepared for doing everything possible to assure the shark’s safety than I would have been without seeing the video.

Outstanding dude! That's what we want to hear. Those big fish I think you need to try to stop and turn them as soon as possible. That amount of drag though, requires at least two people or fighting out the pipe.

wouldnt have died if they didnt catch it. the larger the shark and longer the fight, the higher chance of heart attack/cardiac failure. suchs that 14ft beast was alive for some wha 50+ years, and was alive for 1 minute and not the next. they caught it fishing and it died because of that. to pretend it was sick and weak is malarkey. BS

Oh get a grip. You people see small fish kept and cleaned all the time to eat and don't say anything. But when a big fish dies you people think its a big deal. There's no difference! A life is a life! We have the god given right to fish so get over it. The guy tried his best to release it so go hug a tree somewhere.
