Oh my gosh. My preschool class did the hatching butterflies thing to and I remember the day they all like hatched out of their cocoon. Our teachers took us outside with this really crappy boombox and they played I Believe I Can Fly by R. Kelly and everyone started crying because our butterflies flew away. Now that I think about it's probably the best memory from my childhood school life.

Jenna I was so weird too I needed basically no attention. My mom still tells me she never knew how to punish me because she would be like go to your room and I would be like "ok cool" and then she would be like "no playing with dolls no reading just sit there damn it" so then I would come down for dinner or whatever and be like "look I wrote some poems for you to tell you how I feel about being in trouble today" and my mom would be like damn it you still enjoyed yourself.

Jenna's story about the Monarch butterflies reminded me of when I was a kid. :3 In first grade we raised Monarch butterflies through the entire metamorphosis process. Sadly, only one of them reached adulthood, but being the kids we were we didn't care. We were ecstatic seeing that little guy come out of his cocoon. When he finally was able to fly, we let him be free out in the school yard. He stuttered a bit, falling every few feet as he tried to fly... but he finally took to the sky. We ran with him across the playground yelling, "Flap your wings! Flap your wings!" and we all cheered when he made it over the fence and flew out of sight. I like to believe he had a wonderful life after that moment and had a big ol'Monarch butterfly family.

This is so strange to me because like I've been watching Jenna ever since I was like 13 years old and I am 20 now?? and So many of the things Julien brought up were things I knew about and i had no idea he is only 24? /according to this website that i found/ Like age is such a weird thing.

My mom is a preschool teacher and we have the plant in our backyard that butterflies lay their eggs on. So she cuts off the leaves and puts all of them in a aquarium to take to her kids at school. They FREAKING love it! They get to watch them all the way from tiiiiny caterpillars to butterflies. Even as an adult, watching them transform is magical so I feel like my mind would explode if I saw that as a kid.

It's strange that I relate with more of Jenna's answers but I'm 25...but that trapper keeper moment gave me allll the feels!! 💕💕

I grew up in a place completely disconnected from everything and I had no idea about celebrities or any of that stuff until I moved in 6th grade. I still haven't been able to get into celebrity culture and actually idolize someone as a person.

lol yeah. my mom disapproved of me of hanging out with my friends from school at the mall or movies, so i went on the fucking internet and made friends. virtual chat worlds, msn messenger, live chat rooms . i gained major social skills just talking to people from all over the world

I use to watch Legends of the hidden temple! So good. My top shows growing up: 1. Boy Meets World 2. The OC 3. Almost every single Disney show (That's so Raven, Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, Sister, Sister, ect) 4. Laguna Beach 5. Full House And soooo many more.

We hatched butterflies when I was in the first grade! Monarch butterflies live here (near San Francisco) and migrate down to Mexico. It was just the coolest thing ever to see.

I listed on Soundcloud this morning, just wanted to add my comment here so you guys could read it Jenna Julien I also had a butterfly moment. I was have a shitty shitty day, was thinking about moving back to Ireland (I live in Scotland) as my bae was back there and I had enough of fucking everything. I was waiting to cross the road and a BUTTERFLY LANDED ON MY NOSE!!!!! I just froze, stood there and looked at it for ages. It just chilled and didn't fly away for what felt like hour, but it was more like 10 seconds. Human traffic bumped me and it flew away! Only one person noticed what had happened, but I was just transfixed on it. I didn't take a photos or shout or anything, it was fucking epic. So I stayed, landed an ace job. Bae moved here the following July and he has his dream job as a brewer. Yup. Butterflies rock.

Because of this podcast, I stayed up watching old TV shows- Figure It Out, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Double Dare, Get The Picture, Finders Keepers, Kablam, The Amanda Show. Amazing. Side note, we did the same thing in my elementary school with the butterflies. Except after we completed that whole unit, we took a field trip to the Natural History Museum in LA. They have this butterfly pavillion there, where you can go in this glass enclosed habitat where tons of butterflies lived. It was magical.

Legends of the Hidden Temple was FUCKING LIT. All those kid game shows were awesome. I didn't grow up with them, but there was an old show channel for these shows and they were AWESOME

This honestly brings me so much comfort, because Jenna I'm literally so similar to you. I had a critter box, I'm obsessed with la Croix, I switch voices. When I watch your videos it's like watching myself and knowing I made it as an adult. It just brings me a lot of comfort.

Oh my gosh you guys! So I have a super long commute and have started listening to your podcasts because they make me laugh alone in my car. So today was this one, and I went down memory lane so far! This podcast totally reminded me of a game I had as a teenager (so from the beginning of middle school to the end of high school). I was in a unique situation at the time, I was that kid who couldn't keep up with notes in class writing them by hand, but they realized that teaching me to type would be a lot easier for me, so in grade 6 onwards I had daily typing lessons and they gave me a laptop to use (the iBook Mac Clamshell laptop in Indigo), and it worked great. It was on loan to me from the school district, but for that entire time it was essentially mine to use. I even got to have it with me over the summers (they probably meant for me to do writing practice over the summer vacation, but let's be real, that didn't happen, lol) so me being the curious kid I am, I looked into every area of the computers files as I possibly could, and I discovered basically the greatest game ever, It was essentially hidden so far back within folders it's like they were trying to hide it from me, lol. The game is called Bugdom and you're basically a little rolling bug and you have to solve puzzles and defeat enemy bugs. It's the greatest ever.

When I was about 6, I was given a kit where I could "grow" my own monarch butterflies. You had the caterpillars in a case and they stayed there while in the chrysalis. When they were ready to hatch my mom set up a tent in our living room and set them in there. Once they hatched I would sit in the tent and the butterflies would just land all over me, and I would have to feed them sugar water. It is still one of my favorite childhood memories!

If y'all ever want to see butterflies emerge and learn awesome things about bugs, check out the Audubon Insectarium in NOLA. It's a great place... I'm a tad biased because I work there. But if y'all are ever in town let me know and I can give you a tour or something!
