Eric Weinstein just explained the problem with average people having access to the internet and all the worlds knowledge. Most people can take the info in, but they can’t prune it properly and thus end up connecting dots in all the wrong ways. That’s how you end up with flat earthers and other stupid conspiracy theorists in the 21st century. It’s not for lack of knowledge, it’s because of an overwhelming amount of info being unloaded on the uneducated mind.

Homeboy you're self reporting. Academia is being used in the sense of active research. A PhD student is actively doing research within their field. That's what a doctoral dissertation is about. People that earn PhDs tend to continue their research, or teach. Sometimes both. If you get a PhD and then stop doing academic research, you are not considered to be actively within academia. It's not an insult. That's how this works and Eric literally says so himself.

There is no doubt in my mind that Eric is extremely intelligent. However, his theory had holes that were pointed out in peer review. Instead of using the feedback from academia to improve his theory, he doubled down on it and went after academia because they wouldn’t accept it. Whether it was due to his ego or a financial incentive, I don’t know. But it sure seems like he asked to go on JRE so he could use Terrence’s experience with Neil as a basis to attack academia for slighting him.

My only problem w EW here was that his explanations were way too complicated. He didn't need to go into logarithms and such to explain why 1x1=1. I majored in math (years ago) and even I had trouble following that. He missed a lot of opportunities, too. He should have pressed him more on the "it's just a metaphor" bit he's saying now. Like, so you're completely backing off on it now? You don't believe that any more? That's funny because you wrote an entire f***ing book on it, and it seems like it was at the core of all your theories. I also wish he had called TH out when he started to talk about the Dewey Decimal System, lol. Like, Terrence, what do you mean when you say that term? No, it's a method of organizing books in a library. So you see, when you make such fundamental mistakes like that, it makes people not take anything else you say seriously. Etc.
@citizen-erased

@@wrc1210 I feel he did that on purpose. He knew straight away that if he pressed hard, he would fold pretty quickly. I didn't mind the logarithmic route, I even learned something there. Definitely something I forgot from undergrad.

Cause they think it justifies their bullshit. It's the same tactic the church did to most of Europe from the Crusades to the Renaissance. Terrance coming up with some half cocked meth head bullshit is all the evidence they think they need to spout their useless moronic balderdash. They fail to realize everyone in the scientific community has basically debunked his theory on basic logic alone. Tyson stated as much. Just like how Marco Polo, Columbus and Ponce de Leon, Amerigo Vespucci, all debunked the clergical myth that the Earth is flat
