Got to shoot the rx-8 ultra today, I don't feel like it's a huge upgrade from the rx-7 ultra as far as shoot ability but the fine adjustments are nice. Won't be upgrading this year lol. After working on bows for 10 years I do appreciate the durability from Hoyt compared to other brands and hunting the elk woods of Colorado Hoyt is the only bow I trust when I'm backpacking in the rough country. Another great review from mfjj!

Hey MFJJ, first, dude I love your content! Your titanium 166 halfout inserts are freaking amazing! Honest reviews unbiased for the most part. One thing, the MSRP on the RX-8 Ultra isn't $1899. According to Hoyt's website, it's $2,049. Not even the regular RX-8 is $1,899. That one is $1,949. Anyway, just wanted to give you a heads up, but you probably already knew that. 😂

Great review. I would argue that carbon is not about having the lightest bow. Carbon fiber has the potential given the force applied on it, to have greater strength to weight ratio than aluminum or steel. Given that they were targeting vibration and noise reduction on the RX-8, it may have required a bit more carbon in places to acheive this. I will take an extra 2 tenths of a pound for better vibration reduction, noise reduction, stability, and durability. I am not convinced that the 2 tenths in weight deserved the score of three. Many of these scores are subjective and I can respect the differing opinion, but just because it is a carbon bow doesnt automatically require it to be or to trend towards the lightest. They are using carbon to acheive other design criteria, not just overall weight. Design is all about compromises. Where do you give and where do you take? No free lunch in design. Just my thoughts. Enjoyed the video regardless of the differeing of opinions. Cheers!

Good review as usual. As far as the bow goes, the whole original concept for carbon bows was lighter weight. There are much better options with many of todays aluminum bows at much better prices, and lighter weight.
@genehildebrandt91619 ай бұрын
Something I have noticed with the vibration test. I saw it spike up with how hard you pull into the wall. I have noticed this on other bows you have tested also when I can see the read out in the video. Thanks for what you are doing.

RX8 Ultra looks like a great bow. I agree about the weight o the bow. With that being said I genuinely like a lot of the new features of the bow. The draw cycle looked very smooth.

I'd love to see a carbon bow cut in half to see how well they are manufactured. Look for cracks, voids, bad fill, etc.

Bought a new rx7 ultra from the shop in August, immediately upon getting home realized something was rattling around inside the riser. Flip the bow upside down and you could hear whatever it was fall and rattle its way through the apparently hollow riser to the opposite end, flip it back over and the same thing… took it back to the shop and they said they had never seen or heard of anything like it. Hoyt is going to replace the bow but still… extremely disappointing to drop $2k on a brand new bow and discover a major factory defect like that not even 30 minutes after leaving the shop. Definitely has me questioning the the quality/workmanship of the riser now

@@fulldraw93dang! Glad they made it right for you. The bike industry is loaded with terrible manufacturing and there are countless issues with the QC in the Far East. Most bows are made in the US but the carbon layups and molds are still hard to nail.

You keep giving "4" for back wall while skipping over the fact that the new cam system offers 2 different backwall options. Switch it to the HX setting and you'll owe it a "5" because, at least according to other reviewers, it is completely solid.

In this review, you can see the draw stops are in the “HX” setting. They’d be flipped inward towards the axle if they were on the softer setting.

@@hoythntr00 good to know i didnt know about that feature. Honestly thought i was gonna get a phase 4 when the new mathews came out, they shoot and hold so nice. But then seeing the bowtech SS and being jam packed with features now im super torn. I currently have an RX-1
@TheManic.5-OH9 ай бұрын
@dangler15 I'm not sure a phase4 is a good idea... I shoot a vxr 28 and v3 31, I thought the phase4 was sweet, but the underlying issues with the longevity of that bow seem to potentially be pretty extravagant. Having those split limbs is just asking for trouble. I don't think the technology is QUITE there yet. That said, I personally am going to see what mathews does with their new bow before I make any decisions. That bowtech is sweet, this RX is sick, DUDS bows have been fire , but at the end of the day, those carbon bows all have that same flaw: they've got that drama going on in the bottom after the shot! It always weirds me out, that's why I didn't go with the levitate, that one was the worst of the carbons for bottom end vibration, imo. My conclusion is that the V3X is the safest bet for ordering new, but since I personally have the v3 and vxr, for me, there's no point

Do you even verify that the cams are in time before evaluating how firm back wall is ? Ive setup a ton of new bows where the draw stops were 1/8" or more off from touching at the same time. Super critical to wall firmness on a bow with cable stops
@timlindert9 ай бұрын
so is this the best long draw bow???
@SamHanson149 ай бұрын
Noticed some other people saying this in the comments as well but I also wanted to bring it up. You have given all of the new Hoyts a "4" for back wall but have not acknowledged the fact that the new cam system offers 2 different backwall settings - Hard (H) and Extra Hard (HX). I'm curious which setting you have the cams set in when doing these reviews. If you're doing them in the H setting, I'd love to hear if you think there's a legitimate improvement in the back wall when you switch it to the HX setting and if so, would the HX setting make it worthy of a "5"? You're also way off when it comes to price. The RX-8 Ultra comes in at $2,049.00 not $1,899.99.
@darrinfogg35149 ай бұрын
Solid review. Not to be nitpicky, but isn't the price on the Ultra $2049?
@houghtonic19759 ай бұрын
Hoyt missed on the speed by a good bit, which surprised me. If you are under 31" draw, you can get a carbon one X that shoots way faster in performance and still a little faster even in comfort. Same weight, less reflex, faster, and much better tuning. Still nothing beats the Mach 34 in weight...not even close and they have pretty easy tuning capabilities with the EZ22 and ability to buy aftermarket cable slide if you want. Can choose if you want aggressive cam to add some speed or comfort cam. E2 cam was halfway between bowtech carbon onex and RX8 ultra in speed while ec2 cam was slower than BT or Hoyt. I think between the 3, Bowtech as nailed the speed vs. aggressiveness. PSE nailed the weight, and Hoyt has the most accessorizing features to rig it out. All are good bows...that's just my take.

@mikereed8459 ай бұрын
The chart is just showing the draw length range of the mods and the different draw weights you can get. They are independent of each other, meaning you can get any module with any weight limb.
@davidgreer95679 ай бұрын
I'm sure you've covered this at some point, but what do you lose per inch of draw length and per pound. So at 28" draw and 60#, how much should I deduct? In your opinion
@ajbholsters20359 ай бұрын
General rule is 2 FPS per pound of draw weight and 10 FPS per inch of draw length. RX8 Ultra's ATA speed rating is 332, so you should lose in the vicinity of 40FPS off whatever speed it actually chronographs.

@deepdivingdak9 ай бұрын
@@apoc8265 what are you not sure about? Hoyt still uses an old fashioned cam shim kit. Bowtech has the Deadlock to adjust for cam lean without even needing a press. PSE has the EZ shim system that takes like 2 seconds. Elite has their SET system and Mathews has top hats. You can absolutely get a good tune on a Hoyt, just like all the other flagship bows. But with Hoyt you have to deal with the same old shim system bows have had for years - while other bows have added features to make it easier and faster.

What does the reflex measurement do
@jacobbrownfield57539 ай бұрын
The longer the reflex of a compound, it will (generally) be easier to torque
@ajbholsters20359 ай бұрын
Reflex is the distance the grip sits behind the limb pockets. The closer the grip is to the limb pockets (like a deflex riser like the Bowtech Reckoning), it should be harder to apply torque.

Why are these companies not all doing adjustable modules that dont require buying more modules and parts. I fesl like, they are not inovating enough given current technology and materials available. And lastly. I feel like prices need to be lower where possible
