Poenari Castle also known as Poenari Citadel (Cetatea Poenari) . It was erected around the beginning of the 13th century by the rulers of Wallachia. In the 15th century, realizing the potential for a castle perched high on a steep precipice of rock, Vlad III the Impaler repaired and consolidated the structure, making it one of his main fortresses. To reach the castle, visitors need to climb 1,480 steps.

[RO] Cetatea este situată în apropierea barajului Vidraru, pe un vârf de munte. A fost ridicat în jurul valorii de la începutul secolului al 13-lea de către conducătorii Ţării Româneşti. Cetatea Poenari a fost reședința secundară a lui Vlad Țepeș, fiind construită ca post de fortăreață contra otomanilor. Pentru a ajunge la castel, vizitatorii trebuie sa urce 1480 de trepte.

W XV wieku, zdając sobie sprawę z potencjału zamku wznoszącego się wysoko nad stromym urwiskiem skalnym, Vlad III Palownik naprawił mury, dzięki czemu zamek został jedną z jego głównych twierdz. Aby dotrzeć do zamku, goście muszą wspiąć na 1480 stopni.
