Over the mountains travel was slow mainly due to the endless amount of hairpin curves in the road, but the road conditions were, generally, good. Around small towns and villages, the roads are one, or two lanes, and usually have slow moving vehicles in the road. It was not uncommon to have horses pulling carts, traveling down roads. Also, there are numerous packs of dogs that run free in towns and rural areas, they are frequently in the road ways, not to mention other farm animals that may be crossing the roads. Driving in Romania was not difficult, but plan to take your time, and enjoy the view!
