I am a 12 year old dancer and I am working towards going En Pointe. I am starting a pre pointe class next season and these videos just get me even more excited for what I am already looking forward to ❤️❤️❤️

Your dog is so cute! I used to dance and my dog LOVED my shoes. And I mean all of them, not just my actual dance shoes but anything that looked like a ballet shoe at all. And I happen to love the shape of them so I've had many pairs of ballet shoes that weren't for dance on top of my many pairs that were. And that crazy dog has chewed many pairs of them. Luckily only one was the real thing and it was already so dead that it should have been cremated. She also tried to chew my tap shoes but that was a lesson learned the hard way...

thanks for talking about how you may need different widths depending on the time of day or how much you’re rehearsing- i always notice during tech week, i almost need the next width. also, i live in WA but am from MN- whenever i go back to MN in the winter and take class, my body and my feet/shoes feel sooo different! (and, i thought it was interesting that you go between Z maker and L maker- those are also two of my favorite makers ☺️)

love hese videos , so informative.....ive been forwarding links to my students and their moms.......im always going on about how crucial it is to be fitted by a knowledgeable "legitimate pointe shoe fitter" and what a difference the proper shoe makes....i actually try to go to the store with my students and their parents when i can .....would love to come out to one of your shops and meet you ! :)

A biscuit is when a dancer points their toes, but not their ankle

My mind was blown by the cost/lifespan of these shoes, which is HUGE. At one point, the host says it is HALF of your expenses. Are expenses defined as equipment, costumes, and performance related, or does it include things like transportation, coaching, or what?

Since no one answered before: i find if you are not a professional, especially classes add up. I pay between 12-20€ per 90 min class, dancing 3-4 times a week, that adds up 150-200€ per month. A pair of regular point shoes is 70-90€. Granted, i‘m in not kind of (pre)professional training, so i do it just for myself. But i feel like everything ballet related has a huge pricetag on it. Finding leotards below 50€ is very difficult for example. Ballet tights also costs 2-3 times as much as regular tights. It‘s a pricy hobby/ expensive and insecure profession to get into.

It’s crazy I have really high arches and very flexible feet and I thought they were strong too but I just recently switched to stretch ribbon and realized my feet are so week😂🙈I had been relying on the pullback from the ribbons to get on my box so now I’m really trying to work on strengthening my feet😂💕

if these are totally custom-made, why isn't the shank made shorter/toe darned/ribbons/elastic sewed so all these alterations don't have to be done afterwards?? what's the point(e) of custom shoes??

It allows the ballerina to bond with her shoes. Like most sports or arts, there is the need to feel a connection with your equipment. They could order these things done, but then they would just be shoes.

not every person‘s foot is the same so elastic and ribbons have to be very personalized for the dancer and it’s up to personal preference to have a shorter shank and to darn your shoes

Lyly Truong Josephine did dance, I don't think she ever danced professionally, but she definitely did ballet when she was young. Her mom owns a dance shop too.

As mother of the groom living in Orlando went back to Oklahoma for the wedding my new shoes or dress didn’t fit and to rebuy everything in 2 hours. Ouch expensive!

I want to know how much do pointe shoes cost? What are the largest size do pointes go up to? What are the difference of the manufacturers? Why do ballerinas look like they are tearing up their shoes? what are the reasons. What are the differences between ballerinas shoes verses male dancer shoes?

Benjamin Deal 60-130 dollars per pair, depends on the brand, certain manufacturers tend to work for different types of feet(bloch has more square boxes, etc.), to break them in sort of like how you have to break in dress shoes, male dancers tend to dance on flat( all dancers start on flat and girls go en pointe around 11-13). i hope this helped :)

I don’t understand why companies can’t create shoes that aren’t useless after a week. We’ve literally got satellites in space but can’t create a pointe shoe that lasts longer than a few hours. Dread to think of the environmental effect of this level of wastage.

The shoes are made of materials that are biodegradable, and shoes that are broken down will get used for other things, like rehearsal or classes. They don’t always just go in the garbage, but when they do, they do breakdown.

Pointed shoes are essentially made of paper mache. Not only do they break down but they mold to the foot with heat and moisture. It's a very difficult material and effect to mimic.

You should not wear pointe shoes without a few years of proper training. It's a great way to hurt yourself.

@@mortifera123 I should have expounded.....I want a pair of pointe shoes to make a planter. My 6 yo Great Neice is super into ballet, and I wanted to make these adorable flower planters for her room.

@@michelleadamchak1330 Oh that makes more sense! I believe a lot of dancers sell their used/dead shoes on secondhand websites specifically for crafting purposes.

If you want one for that reason then just get one from Amazon. There's no point in buying a proper one that costs like £100. The ones on Amazon are way cheaper and not really suitable for proper dancing.
