Absolutely agree Brendon. 'Ride The Wind' & 'Fallen Angel' are some of my favourite songs. Open Up And Say Ahh.... is such a great album, not a bad track on it, but to be honest their first 3 albums are all excellent. Lucky enough to see them live at their peak in 89 when they came to Australia and was front row centre. Great concert.

I'm glad to see an album ranking about Poison. The hate towards this band back in the days was too excessive in my opinion and these haters clearly overreacted. If I discovered Poison with "Open Up And Say Ahh" back in 1988, my favorite album is "Flesh & Blood". There is a lot of diversity on this record and we can clearly hear how hard these guys worked to release something strong. "Flesh & Blood" was Poison's biggest success here in Europe and, in my opinion, if it was released one year earlier (1989), it would possibly have sold even more copies worldwide (like Bon Jovi's New Jersey, for example). For their covers album, I think Poison should have chosen songs from Starz, Teaze, Ian Hunter, for example.

The first two Poison albums are among my favorites, with "Look What the Cat Dragged In" taking my top spot; almost all killer except for "Blame It on You." But "Open Up..." has my favorite deep cut from them, "Look But You Can't Touch"; my overall favorite from them "Nothin' But A Good Time", and the landmark power ballad of the 80's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn."

I think they made a mistake by not holding those 5 new tracks back that they included on Power To The People and instead used those really strong tracks on Hollyweird. It really beefs that album up! I tested this theory out and made my own Hollyweird that I labeled the deluxe edition and rearranged the order to make the songs flow better and added the 5 PTTP tracks but I deleted Stupid Stoned and Dumb. In a perfect world I would also make Home into one song using CC's verses and Bret's part in the bridge about Nic Cage asking what Unskinny Bop means, lol! I absolutely LOVE my version of the album!!!! If this was what we got as Hollyweird I would rank it ahead of Native Tongue and Crack A Smile! I don't include the covers album when I rank them.

I even include Power to the People in the mix when doing a Poison ranking. I knows it’s mostly live but it opens with five new tracks and the return of CC. I actually throw this above Crack a Smile and Poison’d, and Hollyweird. Agree with ranking for the most part- at least depending on the day of the week! Hahah…. One thing, it may just be me… but I am still completely how Poison’s two greatest songs never made it to an album until remasters w/bonus material. Living For the Minute and the Hangman are right there with Ride the Wind in my top3 favorite Poison tracks of all time!

I 100% agree with the bottom three on your list and in the exact same order. I differ slightly at the top of your list. I have Flesh and Blood at #1, Native Tongue #2, Nothing but a good Time #3, and Look What the Cat Dragged In #4. I'm a huge Ritchie Kotzen fan so there is a bit of bias with Native Tongue. I thought he brought a dynamic to the band that C.C. just couldn't bring. I love the range of songs on Flesh and Blood and overall love the eclectic nature of it. Look What the Car Dragged in was raw but the songwriting was just awful on it, but it was a fun sounding album. As always Great Ranking Brendon!! You are so succinct and honest with your reviews. My top Poison album is Flesh & Blood. Not many songs I skip on this one. Life Loves A Tragedy is a great song that surprisingly wasn’t released. Valley of Lost Souls, Ride The Wind, Life Goes On, and even the b-side Come Hell or High Water are all great songs. Album is a mature step forward and included that bluesy feel to their rock style.

Tell me Brendon, is the 'Swallow This' live album behind you the single or double CD version?. I have the double CD, but I do remember them also releasing a single CD version of it. Yes mate they were the days - the music was loud, the lyrics were mostly fun and life was easy. 'Nothin' But A Good Time' said it all, it was a great video as well. I also think that 'Look What The Cat Dragged In' & 'Night Songs' were released within a few days of each other, bit of a fun fact there. Take care.

Poison were great. Though haven't been the same since the reunion. I liked the new tracks of power to the people but, man, I was so gutted when hollyweird came out, it was just such a try hard album. No passion or drive just by the numbers, couple of good tunes. My ranking is 1. Flesh and blood 2. Look what the cat dragged in 3. Native tongue 4. Open up and say argggh 5. Crack a smile 6. Power to the people - which I think the handful of new studio tracks are great but the live part just isn't great. 7. Hollyweird

It was a big gut punch. Such a huge difference in sound and quality from their heyday. As a solo album from Bret that’s fine but not from the mighty Poison. I had hoped they would have made another album of original material since in order to redeem themselves but to no avail.

Solid analysis, though for me you have the #1 and #2 albums reversed. Open Up is an amazing album with outstanding guitar work, but it's a little too polished and produced (perfect fit for that album and time, though). Flesh 'n Blood feels a little more raw and CC's guitar work is top notch all around, even on that goofy Unskinny Bop. If you listen carefully to the guitar there, it has some really tasty stuff down in the mix. Both albums need major props to their respective producers as well (Tom Werman and Bruce Fairbairn, if I remember right). Regarding Blues Saraceno, he is an absolute beast of a player, I mean a total monster. I didn't think he'd work for Poison, but I have to say, he did an amazing job. Same with Kotzen, they're both the definition of overqualified, yet pulled off their roles magnificently. It's a shame CC didn't do more solo work, he should have just as many solo albums out there at this point.
