@@adamwright7954 Nope. CC Banana era. [Metal Sludge joke]. Was CC DeVille, and he was actually good, except for when his guitar cut out a couple notes into the solo to “Every Rose”. His tech was furiously trying to get it to work, but CC just ended up shrugging while Brett just smiled and strummed til the tech switched out his rig.

Omg, totally forgot about CC Banana.

It's "ugly jealous man" mentality. Some sort of stuck up "proper" musician who thinks it's all about looks or that we all want to listen to music to learn everything there is about life.

@@lanceross3633 I would've fit right in. I gotta say, I am a pretty good guitarist, my style is heavily influenced by George Lynch and Warren DeMartini. I am not saying I'm at their level but I am reasonably close. I could totally have survived on playing guitar in the 80s and perhaps even attain moderate success

They had talent. Every Rose has it's Thorn? not groundbreaking or prog rock but a great song. - and I actually don't love the song. Something to Believe in... Mama's Falling Angel. plenty of decent songs

Poison were not completely talentless, CC was not a bad guitarist at all despite all the bashing. Solo on "life goes on" is fuckin killer. He could write catchy riffs. Bret wasn't a good singer of course but you know, it fit their music. Drummer improved as time went by

It says you liked it...as did millions of teenagers. Totally normal. When Poison came out (I was 14) I loved it. This album had a raw brash attitude without being too scary for naive teenagers like me, BonJovi, Europe, Whitesnake 87 all dropped around the same time, it was awesome.

It means you are honest and not into retrospective "too cool" bullshit. Poison rocked. It wasn't all the look. I knew dudes that would have hated them based on how they looked, yet they didnt know and they liked them.

yeah you can't deny Talk Dirty - and the solo is a classic. Cry Tough, I Want Action, Cat Dragged In - all good songs, even if they were bubble gummy

but they didn't give credit where credit is due, thus the plagiarism lawsuits.

Ric obviously has an ax to grind with Poison. He tries to trash them at every opportunity in this interview. Now nobody would confuse Poison with Dream Theater for talent but Poison isnt as bad as Ric tries to make them out to be

Thank you. Most people have this idea that the thrash kids hated glam, and vice versa. Maybe that was true in some circles, but where I was from, the same kids lining up for the Bon Jovi and Poison tickets were lining up for the Priest and Megadeth tickets.

I didn't finish my sentence during the interview, but I remember hearing about a lawsuit maybe 5 years ago where CC's former bandmates were suing Poison for stealing songs. I think it was like 4 or 5 songs. I remember listening to them, and they weren't just partial rip-offs, they were exact rip-offs - music, lyrics and melodies. Then the lawsuit just disappeared. Does anybody have any info?

"I Want Action" has the same melody as Sweden's Easy Action's "We Go Rockin'", which the guitartist is Kee Marcello used to be in Europe.

I'm blessed to be longtime friends with Madam X. Chris Doliber and Maxine Petrucci owned a bar in the middle of Michigan's Upper Peninsula called the Tumble Inn. Great place. I was the house photographer so got to shoot everybody that played there back in 96-01. Dio, Vince Neil, Slaughter, Warrant, Vixen, etc. Wonderful times.

The bar was high with Rhodes, etc, but just about every hair metal band had much better than average guitar players for sure. Media critics of the day might say players like CC, Mars were sloppy but at the same time will praise REM/U2 music that anyone can play with little effort.

@@joehobbs3277 I never understood why those alt bands got a pass, it's more like soundscapes, modern art of music, no real great melody. I give ramones a pass for that same reason of johnny's downstrokes, invented a sound and style that many copied. Joey's vocal melodies would work well put to piano music. Ramones song mama's boy part where Johnny actually does a pull off on a single note, teen spirit copies that note sound. Another thing with glam, those guys are all over the stage and still playing good while the alt bands are lingering around in heavy concentration of playing something simple and what should be effortless. This producer being interviewed mentioned Poison's "drummer" and you know well he probably remember Rikki's name, just had to do that for sake of being more of a jerk. Also when glam bands wrote serious songs, something to believe, house of pain, 18 and life...the lyrics are outstanding and not just party stuff.

@@joehobbs3277 I think Chris Cornel has the perfect hard rock voice. If he came out in the 70's with a traditional hard rock band I think he'd be even bigger. Jani Lane was a great writer and main force of that band for sure. So many deaths in alt, the main 3-Chris, Weiland, Cobain, alice in chains guy + blind melon and some others. Eddie Vedder seems to be last one standing of the big ones.

I bought that Rock Candy cassette at the mall based purely on the cover. It was cheap, $5.99 I believe, and I remember thinking it was ok.

Flesh & Blood (to me) is way better and gets way more of a listen in the rotation way more than the debut. But I’m the guy who also loves Native Tongue and Crack A Smile.
