Poison Spider Mesa is a must-hit off-road Jeep trail in Moab. This is a Jeep Badge of Honor Trail. It is packed full of exciting obstacles and amazing views. In this video we have Jerry in his Toyota FJ Cruiser, Bill in his Jeep JL Rubicon Unlimited, Camron in his Jeep LJ crawler and Jimmy in his Jeep JK Unlimited. We went to the arch and then turned around on this trail due to some passengers not feeling well. Check out Bill dominating the Improbable Hill! Watch before heading to Moab Easter Jeep Safari!

I'm going out to Colorado and Utah in September. (From Florida). I've been to Colorado twice and did all the famous trails in the San Juan's including Black Bear pass. This year I'll also do some in Utah. Looking forward to White Rim trail the most. It's hard to risk to much vehicle damage when you have to drive the vehicle 2500 miles home!
@Colorado4x4
@Colorado4x4 Жыл бұрын
Sweet! We haven’t ran White Rim but it looks awesome! Check out Elephant Hill too. Got to hit Hell’s Revenge as well. So many awesome trails out there and it will be a great time of year. Shoot, I know what you’re saying about having to drive home because I think it all the time when we go to Moab and have to drive back to Denver and it’s no where near the trip length back to Florida! - Geoff

Nice!! Way to go FJ Jerry. I need to get out there and run this trail soon. FJ Jerry get front locker, regear to 4.88, and rear extended travel, it will be a game changer for that FJ. Ever since I did that mod on my fjcruiser, its been so much better on off camber obstacles. Hopefully I can tag along someday, it looks crazy awesome
@Colorado4x4
@Colorado4x4 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Felipe! He did great! Yes, this trail should be on your list for sure. He does need a front locker in that thing. Do you disconnect the front sway bar? Where do you live?
@frcon200340
@frcon200340 2 жыл бұрын
@@Colorado4x4 Hi .. I don't run any front or rear sway bars. I'm in southern California, Murrieta. I recently did some offroading in southern Utah Sand Hollow, crazy dunes and obstacles, Moab is next on my list, hopefully next year
@Colorado4x4
@Colorado4x4 2 жыл бұрын
Nice! Jerry was talking about getting front sway bar disconnects so he can get a little more flex in the front. He did just install that lift recently, I think it is a Toytec 2.5” lift. We haven’t hit Sand Hollow yet but it looks like so much awesome wheeling out there. We do want to hit the Rubicon some day too!
@frcon200340
@frcon200340 2 жыл бұрын
@@Colorado4x4 honestly, because of fj cruiser front IFS, sway bar disconnects doesn't do much for travel, it makes big difference in rear if you got extended coils/shocks. I ran Rubicon in June of this year in my fjcruiser with a Toyota group (Rubithon) the views and trail was awesome.
@Colorado4x4
@Colorado4x4 2 жыл бұрын
Ah. Makes sense. I don’t know much about the FJs other than they do great on the trail. The front locker would have been handy on Hell’s Gate when he had to winch out. The Rubicon is just a bucket list trail that we will hit someday!
@davealling8847
@davealling8847 2 жыл бұрын
Poison Spider "was" on the to do list. I don't think my SR5 4Runner is set up for this trail. 2" lift and no lockers. It does have full armor/bumper/winch. The locker situation may get remedied, though. (Currently waiting on a quote) You showed the really tough parts of the trail, which other videos I have watched don't show. Yours made me realize I probably shouldn't do this trail.
@Colorado4x4
@Colorado4x4 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dave. What size tires do you have? The FJ Crusier is on about 2.5” lift and skinny 33s. I can’t remember if he used his rear locker at all. Poison Spider is tricky and it kind of throws different challenges at you. I think if you went with a group that could help spot, you can get through it. I know that if you ran it with us, I wouldn’t have any concern, but it comes back to your comfort level. Have you ran other trails in Moab? - Geoff

@@Colorado4x4 My SR5 has 275 Wildpeaks. Not quite 33's but close, 32.8."(?) I have done 2 trails in Moab in a Chevy 4WD pick-up, Gemini Bridges and one other "easy one" ? I have only done Tenn trails in the 4R. Wife's uncle took us out. 3 days, 3 different trails. He taught me a lot and I learned how all of the 4x4 gizmos worked. I did not have a lift or any armor on those rides, so I bailed on the one really tough (to me) trail. I have done the Slickrock trails on a Mt bike, but that's a different animal. Oct. will be my 1st real off-road trip to Moab. Experiencing what my bone stock ride did in Tenn., I am looking to push my limits in Moab, but your Poison Spider video showed me that I probably could not do it without an experienced spotter. I am hoping to hook up with some one at the other trailheads so I am not wheeling with one vehicle. I will have a novice spotter with me though. FWIW my risk level does seem to be a bit higher than most people. But I do have limits. Thank you for the reply!! ;) I did not expect one and I do appreciate it. I also really enjoy your videos. They have a lot of important info that other videos never mention. P.S. I would love to tag along on one of your trail rides sometime.

Your 275s are plenty of big for some Moab fun. I grew up in Tennessee!!! Got my fair share of mud wheeling and then graduated to rocks when I moved out here in 2000. 😂 So it sounds like you’re good to go. You know how your rig works and it’s modified so you’re ready to hit the trails. You’ve got enough lift and big enough tires to really enjoy it. A novice spotter will become a good spotter pretty quick as long as they have a good eye and care about doing a good job, so I wouldn’t worry about that. You’ve got to learn at some point! You can hook up with someone else at the trailhead or even post on the Moab Friends for Wheeling Facebook page to find someone to go wheel with. But if yo my can’t find someone, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. There’s so many people on the main trails and most all of them are good people that are willing to help if needed. Here is what I would do. Hit Baby Lion’s first kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sLOlnMaEva65dWQ.html to get a feel of the slickrock. Air down those tires to maybe upper teens pressure to start and see how they do. You won’t pop a bead there and you usually only pop a bead when there is some serious side load on the tire and you’re at a low pressure like 10 pounds or less. After Baby Lions Back go hit Fins and Things. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f-BgZ5WAmN2Rf5c.html Fins and Thins is kind of like the intro to Moab wheeling. The preamble if you will. Then maybe the next day hit Hell’s Revenge. Hell’s Revenge is the best Moab trail. Period. I’m finishing up a trail guide series and I’m not done yet! But it covers everything you need to know and should really help you be prepared. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/irGbidlmt9rIf2g.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z7t4maaK3tO3iKM.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ncCigpSG38zbZWQ.html If you feel good after those trails then give Poison Spider a shot. I think PS is definitely more difficult than the previous two trails but it’s amazing and worth it for sure. Keep me updated when you go out. We usually buzz out there several times every year. - Geoff
