Having Team Plasma interrupt you in the middle of the League was a defining moment in the Pokemon franchise.

Apparently N was supposed to have supernatural powers and be able to see into the past and the future before that plot point got scrapped, Masuda said in a blogpost this was represented in N's battle theme by the ticking clock noises.

I never noticed until a few days ago that Ghetsis' team is made to hard counter N's team. Shows that if things went out of control he could still defeat N, truly an evil genius.

When you realize that Zekrom's eye color matches Reshiram's flame and Reshiram's eye color matches Zekrom's bolt. They are so much a part of each other in every single way. Fascinating.

So, we have abadass story about how the region was created. We have a character who is the rival AND the team boss. Actually this team has two bosses. This guy has 3-4 themes for himself. And his "father" is the most despicable person ever and literally ALMOST KILLED THE HERO in BW2? Edit: he tried to kill Lilie in USUM :D We need a second gen 5

Battling N's dragon with your newly caught dragon is single handedly the coolest battle concept in any Pokemon game so far.

What I love about this game is the fact that the dichotomy between truth and ideals is equally applicable regardless of which version you play. In Black, where N chooses Zekrom, N believes in what he thinks is the ideal world: one where Pokémon live free of human control, and the protagonist is chosen by Reshiram to make him see the truth, that humans and Pokémon can coexist and bring many benefits to each other for doing so. In White, where Reshiram is chosen by N, N believes in what he thinks is the truth; that Pokémon and humans would be better off separate, and the protagonist is chosen by Zekrom to show N their ideal world, which is, again, that Pokémon and humans need each other and are capable of coexisting. Personally, I always found White’s interpretation to be more interesting because of the fact that N’s “truth” was built on the lies told to him by Ghetsis.

N has by FAR the best rival battle theme in pokemon history, how deep and respectful his character actually is just a bonus

I don't remember who said it but basically it was revealed that N was letting you capture the other legendary to assert dominance. This guy's not just built different, He's built better.

N is seriously a character that changed the pokemon franchise. aside all of the fangirling, shippings etc, he was like the first experiment to see if gamefreak could add something more to the already rich features of the games - something like a great, great, GREAT plot. but, how do you make a good plot for a game? with memorable, deep characters. N talks about freedom, slavery, truth, ideals, and even makes references to philosophers such as hegel and shopenhauer in his speeches. he's an evolving character that constantly grows throughout your journey, starting from a difficult past, to a real novel-like hero. we've never had such complex npcs before. N was the very beginning of a new pokemon era. put it like this, if it wasn't for N, we may not of had characters like AZ, lysandre, zinnia, lusamine and lillie. N is a vital character and possibly my favourite in the pokemon franchise ^^

Something that goes vastly unappreciated in this song is how the heartbeat sounds at 0:49 actually follow the common flow of blood through the heart. A contraction and expansion starting in the left atrium, going into the left ventricle, and being expelled through the right ventricle and then right atrium ( for those wondering, left and right are mirrored in medical diagrams of the heart). It’s a really neat detail that most people won’t even notice. Edit: Apparently a clock! Thoroughly interesting

Nautral Harmonia Gropius is the real name of "N". He is a descendant of the royal family who ruled Unova long ago. Ghetsis was also one of these descendants, but he unfortunately did not have the qualities required to be a king. So, to satisfy his dark intentions, he set out to find someone who could take him to the top of the world. That person was N, himself. It is said that he has supernatural powers, he could speak to all species in the world and even understand them. Nobody knows how it is possible, not even Ghetsis who cannot hide his admiration. Those qualities were common in the former royal family of Unova...

It always amazes me how genuine as an enemy N was. He's the only antagonist in Pokémon to befriend and battle with the power of a legendary Pokémon. He's fighting with Reshiram/Zekrom because they deem him worthy and want to battle. In Pokémon Colosseum and XD, Cipher uses legendary Pokémon because their hearts are shut and they are feral slaves for battle. Ghetsis controls Kyurem to battle for him and planned to control/defeat N to control the legendary dragons too. Volo teamed up with Giratina but clearly used it just to fight and defeat the trainer so he could eventually defeat Arceus itself. Others simply failed to manipulate legendary Pokémon, such as the OG Mewtwo and how he destroyed the lab and defied Giovanni. N is the only enemy who is so genuine that legendary Pokémon deem him a worthy ally and even see him as a friend.

Man, gen 5 was a real masterpiece. People hate it, the story of team plasma is something i'll never forget. Remember when I was 10 and got pokemon black. The transformation in N is what made these games engaging. Edit: Coming back to my comment 5 years later, gen 5 remains my favorite of all time.

N: one of the most interesting characters in Pokémon, period. Evil, not by nature, but by manipulation and lies. Actually defeats the Champion before you, and uses a legendary Pokémon against YOUR legendary. Turns good afterwards, AND can be encountered again in B2W2! Natural Harmonia Gropius, you are one heck of a character!

N is a very interesting character in gaming history. One of my favorites. So let me talk about him. Purrloin the Devious pokemon. *Devious* meaning, "showing a skillful use of underhanded tactics to achieve goals" . The *first* pokemon N uses in his first battle against you. This foreshadows his role as the King of Team Plasma, using his "underhanded tactics" in creating what he feels is the best future for Pokémon. But he isn't sure whether it is best, so he sets out on a journey throughout Unova, learning more about the relationship between people and pokemon. And, so he questions his deviousness, and not to long after, we meet him again in Nacrene City after dealing with the first and second encounters of the Team Plasma grunts. Though these two encounters have a slight meaning within. We first meet Team Plasma in the Dreamyard, then in Wellspring cave. *Wellspring* meaning, "an original and bountiful source of something." And *Dream* meaning, "a cherished aspiration, ambition, or *ideal* ." Fitting for Team Plasma. Since, Dreams/Ideals are perceived to be the wellspring of Team Plasma. Plasma is such a weird name for an evil team, so I thought deeper and came to a conclusion that it's to express the fact that their goals are an outlier compared to other goals. Knowing Plasma is a state of matter everyone doesn't acknowledge, but Team Plasma acknowledges it, in this case, their leaders own desires. Soon, a little girl gets her pokemon stolen, and that is when we first witness the I guess, pain of seperation, mostly through the eyes of Bianca. With the help of your two friends Cheren and Bianca, as mentioned and showed, they are opposites, but they still are great friends because of the balance you bring as Hilbert. And in his story, it's also him who will be the hero, who prevents Team Plasma, more so N, from creating a future of Black and White. Between the line of truth and ideal. One of the best rivals in the series because of their personalities, growth, and deeper meaning. Wait that reminds me, I forgot in the Bulgarian language I beleive Cheren means black, and Bianca means White. That makes my point make more sense. Moving back to N, we never see him with a Purrloin ever again, as he continues his own journey learning more about the relationship between people and pokemon, questioning whether they are *truly* happy. Lost in his desires to create a new world for pokemon. And learning the wellspring of Pokémons happiness. Which is the whole clique friendship, bondage with people theme, lol. NOW, we only battle N 5 times. In the iconic Accumula Town, Nacrene City, Nimbasa City, Chargestone Cave, and in the Pokémon League. In that first battle, N did tell us that he wanted to treat pokémon as friends, and that, is what he does. There is a pattern in the 5 battles. And that is that N only uses the pokemon that live in harmony in each of the routes. Pinwheel Forest, Route 4, and Chargestone Cave. -tympole, timburr, pidove -scraggy, darumaka,sandile, and sigyliph -boldore, klink, ferroseed, joltik Since he can talk to Pokémon. He's think to himself and say some sht like, "I could be friends with pokemon, and communicate with them better, if they are too also friends." So he catches them all and trains them together. However, in the final battle, it's different, but still the same intent from N. He has a Vanilluxe, they are two, but they work as one, then he has the two fossils who once lived together in the ancient past of Unova, then he has Klinklang, 3 in one. And lastly he has Zoroark and Zekrom, the two pokemon that bonds with him. Throughout the game, the gym leaders finished off with their strongest pokemon, but because of N's final hopes and determination in this future he wants for pokemon, he leads with his strongest, but we showed him who was the strongest, who had the better mind, who had more bondage and faith in their pokémon. Very climatic. Now, this theme is goated fr. In the beginning you hear what I like to imagine, the sound of wind flowing through the trees, and where do we see N in the opening of the game? In a forest with pokemon. So I could imagine those trees representing the beginning of N's natural love for pokemon, in that forest. In this theme you could hear heartbeats, and a clock ticking. This is the last chance to save Unova, to save N really. N does have a heartbeat and is a human with emotions and dreams, going against Ghetsis perception of N. And the cries you hear in the back, I imagine those as Reshiram's cries, rising and falling, as N battles with the truth(Reshiram/Us in the story), with the different sounds similar to the Team Plasma theme. I like to think Black is the cannon Pokémon game. I mean, you got to fight the truth against N's ideals being expressed through Zekrom. And in the story told by Drayden, there was a younger brother and older brother. Younger sought truth, older sought ideals and there was conflict. Since we are the young one, especially playing as a kid, (which is more epic), it fits the theme and story better. I honestly just played the game again, and this time read the dialogue after so long, and the game is pretty deep for a kids game. So I decided to come here, and type what I think and what I noticed in my favorite pokemon game, since it's fresh in my mind. I like to think it's more than some clique friendship themed game. So yeah, Game Freak did amazing with this one, and I hope we get to have another pokemon game like Pokemon Black with hidden meanings, and another unique villain and plot.

This is still one of the hardest tracks that's ever come from Pokemon. Loved it when I was 10, still love it at 21.

N is the perfect antagonist. If you look at all the other antagonists, you’ll see that they stop being evil just because their plans were stopped. He sticks with his beliefs but changes how he goes about it.

This game was probably the most poignant. People like to say The Aether Foundation was fucked up, but that didn't hold a candle to the horror show that was Team Plasma and Ghetsis. Gladion and Lillie were neglected, but they had a family who loved them deep inside Lusamine, but Ghetsis? Ghetsis didn't care about N, and he'd probably be dead if it weren't for the fact that he didn't have the ability he had. Lusamine was PG13, Ghetsis is Rated R. B&W have some of the most outstanding characters and possibly the most intense plot to any pokemon game. At times I didn't realize it WAS pokemon, just that there were pokemon in it. This game is amazing. Kanto could never.

man, gen 5 isnt my favorite gen but dear god the entire progression of the final parts of these games is perfection. the elite four, your challenge being interrupted, progressing through N's Castle with that incredible theme playing, catching the dragon, battling N, and then finally battling Ghetsis. it's all just so good! so many little things stand out like the fact that N's battle theme changes to sound more intense compared to his regular theme, and the Team Plasma emblem popping up next to his battle intro portrait. it's all incredibly well done

I want N to make a return in the series. They had other Unova characters like Ghetsis, Colress, and Grimsley

When N revealed he was the King of Team Plasma, I felt genuinely betrayed and never wanted to see him again. After he realized that he was being used and his life was a lie, then proceeded to leave on his own journey to reflect on his actions and decide what to do next and said that both of our Truths and Ideals were right and that he fully supported me............I actually cried a little bit. That was a day I would never forget. And from that point on, I've played every single Pokemon game. Because I finally realized that the world is not Black and White, there are more than two sides to every story, no matter what our beliefs are, we all live in the same beautiful world. And when we work together, believe in each other, and dream big, we can change the world.

I absolutely love N's character development. He's one of my favourite antagonists. I'm glad he came back in Pokémon Masters.

I wonder how they felt. Reshiram the one who stood with truth, and Zekrom, the one who stood with ideals. As you and N faced each other, did they remember the first heros? Do you think they remember the time they were one, when the two heros planned to work together? How much sorrow they must have felt that they had to watch two children stand in the place of the former heros, making the same mistakes.

Best antagonist. Best rival. Best champion. Best character of the whole history of Pokémon. Best music of all.

This was the battle I remember when I think about Pokémon. Everything from the set up to the metronome and the heartbeat in the background made me panic and act sloppily around N's fight. The shear intimidation of having to fight a legendary in the hands of a trainer was enough to make me extremely unsettled. Even my Pokémon seemed to show fear during the fight with most of the sprite animations becoming still more frequently during the fight. It could just be me, but this fight was all that Pokémon should be.

It's complicated, but even on the time axis, it's a prime number in units of eighth notes, and with the eighth note as 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 and finally 13 at 13 makes 9 notes sound vertically at the same time.."

I wish more Pokémon games could have characters with stories as deep as N. As Pokémon is a game targeted towards children, I was blown away at how emotionally powerful N was as a character. While Gen 3 will always be my favorite generation of games for nostalgia purposes, Black and White definitely had the best story of any Pokémon game.

This theme gives you "battle of the gods" kinds of vibe.

There is a tragedy in the fact that N doesn’t realize the consequences of what he’s trying to do. Had he won, had Ghetsis’ plans been sincere, the world that N would have made would have Pokemon and humans separated. They would no longer be connected. But N himself doesn’t realize where that would put him. N is human, but was raised by Pokemon, he can talk to them, he understands them better than he understands humans. Where would he be then, in a reality where he has separated humanity and Pokemon? He himself would be separated from the things that he belongs with, and ostracized by humanity for not fitting in. The tragic irony of N is that he was fighting for a world where he didn’t belong. He was a living antithesis to his own argument. If anyone’s life could demonstrate that humanity could live alongside Pokemon, it’s his.

Something that never made sense to me: Everyone says that N's partner is Reshiram because they played White, but.... From an in-game mythological standpoint, it makes more sense for him to have Zekrom. N's whole thing is making his ideal world, which, for the most part, was built on half-truths and lies. Zekrom, as the Dragon of Ideals, would support him. On the other hand, your trainer is fighting to maintain the relationship people have with pokemon, which, for the most part, is demonstrably true. Therefore, Reshiram, the Dragon of Truth, would support your character. Something to think about.

I'm extremely glad that Gen 5 is getting the love it truly deserves, back in like a decade ago, Gen 5 was hated a lot, The anime is mediocre, sure, but that's it, everything about gen 5 is perfect. The modern internet atleast is now respecting Gen 5, but the damage is already done... however Gen 5 is now recovering from all the hate and is now getting the respect this generation really deserved.
