My mom worked at Blockbuster when this show was at the peak of its popularity. She came home one day and told us that Ash's last name was Ketchum. Why was this such a big deal? Because that was HER last name, and apparently when she told that to customers they were like, "Oh, like Ash from Pokemon!". It was a very weird experience since I'd grown up with that name belonging to my mom for YEARS. (And for the record that is not MY last name. My family has like a million different surnames)

Also, the reason why it's about taking pictures of Pokemon is because at some point of development, it was a Safari game with actual animals in it. But they decided to make it about Pokemon as they felt it would have sold well.
