The professor's AI clone is a better person than the real professor, which is very dark

I agree with the placements, but you have to keep in mind there are two Giovanni. Giovanni of Team Rocket goes back to his passion as a Pokémon trainer. Giovanni of Team Rainbow Rocket is a Giovanni that had no Red to stop him, he acquired the Master Ball and caught Mewtwo.

N is probably the most interesting villain of the bunch. He has a good heart but his ideals are misguided. That's what makes N a good anti-villain. The fact he actually feels sorrowful for what he tried to do to Unova is what leads him to become an anti hero as well. I don't think any other villainous leader can beat N character wise

Rose isn't that evil to be in the middle of the list. Something that I want to point out is that the dynamax energy wasn't just used for electricity. It had applications in pretty much every filed in the region.That's why many of the companies affiliated to Macrocosmos aren't even energy related. And Rose's plan does makes sense though. And it's highly tied to everything you hear and watch during your entire playthrough about the legend of Galar, the characters and specially about Leon. In fact, something that people loves to joke about is the whole Leon being an unbeatable champion thing but this is actually a huge plot point.This because Rose was developing his plan based on his (incomplete/inaccurate) knowledge of the legend of Galar (the one that talks about how "a hero" was the one who stopped the first darkest day). A fact that people tend to miss when it comes to his plan is that, while dynamax energy is incredibly useful in many fields, the wishing stars themselves (that are parts of Eternatus scattered through the region 3000 years ago) aren't unlimited. So in order to ensure the future of Galar (by making Eternatus scatter wishing stars once again through the entire region like it did in the past), he needed to recreate the events of the first darkest day. Because of this, he needed two things: to bring back the darkest day (a.k.a Eternatus) and "a hero" to defeat it (and in current times, this would be Leon, the strongest trainer of the Galar region). Which made Leon´s cooperation an absolutely vital part of his plan. As seen through the game, Rose isn't really a bad person. He loves Galar, had a huge role in his development as a metropolis and has a great eye to find talented people that could help with that growth (Oleana, Leon, Bede, etc). But he also has some really strong ideals. And that's why the scene where he expels Bede from the gym challenge for destroying the ancient mural is so important. Because is meant to show that Rose cuts associations with anyone that goes againts the well being of Galar in some way or another. And just like what happened with Bede, he also got dissapointed with Leon's actions. Bede wasn't Rose's adopted son. However Bede wasn't just the challenger endorsed by Rose either. He was pretty much his plan B in case Leon refused to take part in his plan. A challenger with great talent that could potentially beat Leon and become the champion. Even Bede's original type specialty was influenced by taking into account his potential cooperation with the plan. That's why he was a psychic type user. With psychic being obviously one of Eternatus weaknesses. But he lost this plan B as a result of what happened with the mural since he considered Bede as unreliable due to his actions. Although he was unaware of Oleana's petition to Bede and how (unintentionally on Oleana's part), encouraged Bede to go to extremes to help Rose. It's also important to mention that the reunion with Leon in Rose Tower wasn't Rose's first attempt to convince Leon to participate in the plan (but the problem is that as the strongest trainer of galar, he was vital for his plan, so he HAD to take part in it). Quote from Rose: "Leon, we have discussed this a hundred times already. And you still fail to understand what's at stake? You, who are supposed to be our champion". In fact, Oleana's entire ambush to Leon on his way to the dinner with Hop and the player was their last attempt to get Leon's cooperation by his own will. To the point where Oleana makes everything in her power to delay your (and Hop's) arrival to the tower to gain as much time as she could for Rose to convince Leon, even if she herself had to battle againts the player to do it. At the end, this reunion failed (because he only got another "promise to help" from Leon because he still thought it was too dangerous) and this is the moment where Rose got dissapointed with Leon just like he did with Bede. But he still needed him for his plan, specially after the experiments required to awake Eternatus (the explosions you hear through the game each time you get near to hammerlocke and that Leon took care of). Because of this, Eternatus was already fully overloaded for Leon to fight (thanks to the wishing stars used to awake it, but this also made it harder to control, which is why the plan couldn't be delayed) and Rose no longer trusted in Leon's promises to help with the plan. So given the situation he needed to force Leon to cooperate (by awakening Eternatus in a way that Leon couldn't ignore: during the final match of the gym challenge). Quotes from Rose: " I think it's time to bring the darkest day. All for the sake of Galar. But I´m in a bit of a pickle. The energy released by the darkest day it's too much for us to contain." "I'm sorry it's come to this. But it's you who forced my hand, Leon. You refused to listen" "In order to solve the energy issue, we awakened Eternatus but we couldn't control it. The champion still came to aid me, even at the cost of abandoning the match. Indeed, just like a knight in shining armor coming to rescue a princess from a dragon". So, in summary, the experiments caused Eternatus awakening to accelerate and their reunion in Rose Tower was Rose's last attempt to convince him to take part in the plan by his own will since Leon was vital for it. But he refused to take part in such a dangerous plan and this became the moment where he saw Leon just like he saw Bede, but he was still vital for the plan. And because of this, he made sure to force Leon to participate in it by letting Eternatus awakening happen in a way Leon couldn't ignore (during the final match of the gym challenge) and Leon had to participate just like he expected and just like his plan (that was based on the incomplete/inaccurate version of the legend of Galar) intended. By the way, Rose fights Hop and the player because as I said, he's not a bad guy. He was convinced on Leon's ability to take down Eternatus and Leon was indeed pretty strong. He literally weakened Eternatus enough to attempt the capture without using gigantamax (and this is a legendary pokemon that literally required two legendary pokemon to be defeated). The reason he fought against the player and Hop was for stopping them from interfering but he also didn't want two kids getting in the middle of such a dangerous plan even if they were strong as well. But only you, the player, thanks to the fact that you went through the gym challenge, Sonia's research in the places related to the legend and to the discovery of the lost ancient tapestry with the missing part of the legend (that hinted the location of the relics necessary to summon the legendaries that protected Galar), discovered the actual cause of Eternatus defeat 3000 years ago that no one else knew. And with Hop's help you were able to summon the only ones that could actually defeat Eternatus (Zacian and Zamazenta), just like the two kings (ancestors of Swordward and Shieldbert) did in the past and saved the region (while also ensuring the future of Galar with the wishing stars being scattered once again through the region). Sorry for the extremely long comment. I tend to write a lot sometimes. But I hope this helps to understand Rose's plan with Leon and the darkest day and why he did what he did. And why it comes not that much from pure ego but rather from lack of info about the actual legend of Galar.

While I love B/W more than B/W 2, I think Colress is one of my favorite antagonists of the entire series. His cold, calculating logical look at everything is just so fascinating. "I'm going to fight you to test a hypothesis." He loses. "Huh. Interesting. Back to the drawing board." It was so... weird, and yet so fascinating. He really felt like a real scientist.

Something little that I really like about gen 9 is the professor's foreshadowing that they're not human and just ai When I first meet them I thought "this looks shtty, they move like robots gamefreak could do better". Turns out they are 🤣🤣🤣

Personally I feel lysander is much less evil than say, Giovanni. He did all he could to make people's lives better, perhaps due to his royal lineage he felt responsible as a king should. But when people keep take and take, not just from him but from everyone else, he grew disgusted and disillusioned and decided that as the closest thing to a king as the kalos region has, he should bear the burden to change the world into a more beautiful one, free from greed and selfishness, etc. His descend into villainy is due to him trying to make the world better, and recruiting the rich allows him the resources to do so. His intentions are good and perhaps noble, but his methods are extreme due to him seeing no alternatives as he had tried and tried again to no avail.

I believe that Maxie's plan made better sense than Archie's, allow me to explain The goal of Team Magma was to expand the landmasses of the world, so there's more space for people; and by extension pokemon to live. Groudon beginning to evaporate all the oceans was an unintended side effect, they didn't want to remove all water, just make more land. On the other side of things, Team Aqua's goal was to actually remove all the land, so there's "more space for pokemon" But there's a few problems with that, what about all the pokemon that aren't water type? How are they supposed to live? What about the people? Yes Pacifidlog Town exists but that's a single town with a population of less than 50, not the entire region. How are people supposed to find food if there's no land anymore?

I always thought Rose’s theme said “Come Rose, save everyone”. It still plays into his conviction and drive to be the one to save Galar, but it’s an interesting detail nonetheless.

I’m just saying Gethsis ordered Kyurem to fucking Glaciate the player character. Which would have the PC slowly dying just long enough for them to see his plans goto fruition. Also captured all the gym leaders (in the manga TIED THEM TO CROSSES) his goal to “liberate all Pokémon from Pokémon trainers on all worlds” might be meh. But he’s a vindictive man.

I dont think Cyrus is the most evil. I once watched a video that stated he isn't as devoided of feelings as he think, and he is just depressed. The argument was based of the pokemon he used a crobat that need friendship to evolve and he somehow made a team of people that agreed with him.

My only problem with this video is Chairman Rose's plan wasn't in concern for the world over. It was literally Just Galar. And only Galar. And Volo didn't "see any light" so to speak after defeat. He literally threatened to try his plan again. And again. And again. No matter how long it takes.

I’m going to be honest, I have to contest Ghetsis’s spot in the ranking. I can’t see him ruling out having fatalities based on any moral standings, rather I see him avoiding it on the grounds of efficiency in his greater plan

These things are interesting to think about Personally I'd place Ghetsis as the worst of them all. He's selfish, he manipulated N and if it weren't for the protagonist this would have lead to an even worse domino effect than it already managed to cause. Ghetsis never had any good intentions or goals - to me at least - he just wanted to rule, be the one on top, and was only trying to secure his reign by stripping everyone else from their chances of retaliating. He knows exactly what he's doing. He knows that there are people who care about pokemon and would believe whatever he feeds them if it was told convincingly enough, that it'd be 'for the best' of their pokemon - even if that wouldn't guaranteedly be the truth. And if people weren't going to get rid of their pokemon willingly, he'd just make Team Plasma members steal them. Ghetsis only sees pokemon as tools, his own Hydreigon Loathes him, we know this because of how powerful the move Frustration is on that thing. There's nothing but misery there, nothing good to get from it. Even if separating some people from pokemon would be fine for whatever reasons (like, you know, abuse), that was never Ghetsis' true goal. He isn't doing that out of the kindness of his heart like N was. He's doing it for control reasons & manipulation Ghetsis is the one villain I'd not find anything redeemable from Cyrus on the other hand? Man I get what he's after There's so much bad in the world, so much cruelty, many unjustified things take place every day. Even if you'd try your hardest to get rid of all of those things, it could easily take a lifetime, and when you'd be done with those, there's a chance that new horrors could have arisen. It's a nightmare of a world to live in, where you have no control of things. Where you're overwhelmed by that which is around you and the knowledge of there being all these awful events that take place. At some point, the best way for you to survive and keep going through your days is to just stop caring. If there's so much bad, it's easier to stop caring about anything, rather than stressing over all sorts of awful things day in and day out. To me, in my eyes at the very least, Cyrus just wants a better place to be in. He wants a world that doesn't have all this misery he's feeling in it. And I can't blame him for dreaming of there being a whole different world where things are less messed up and what have you. Or hey, perhaps, he just wants to be alone, feeling that that'd make things a little bit easier to tolerate. At some point of being super depressed, you start losing interest in living and all things related to it. You lose your apetite, you have no interest in making new acquaintances and may find it hard to keep the ones you have. There's nothing in the world. Absolutely nothing. If you're already gone and have given up to the point where everything is meaningless, there's very little for you to think you can do here. So the idea of being able to just be somewhere else and exist in a void where nothing can get worse would be just fine. You're 'surviving' in this current state of yours, so as long as things don't get worse, you'll 'manage'. And then what if you had the chance of starting over? But being able to control certain aspects of the world? Sounds pretty nice, doesn't it? If you could eliminate the things that made you lose hope in living and made you miserable, wouldn't that be tempting? To have no war or conflicts, no hunger, or whatever else that comes to mind. Achieving such things is simply not possible in our world, so you'd do better with a clean blank slate to start off from, yes? I feel that that's what he's after. And he Does have a nicer side to himself, Cyrus that is, because you know, he has a Crobat, which evolves through Happiness. Even if we may not be able to see it, he cares for things. We're only ever shown a few things here and there, but what goes on behind the curtains? His admins certainly like him and are in on the plan 110%, and once Cyrus is gone all of them feel a somewhat overwhelming feeling of emptiness. They'll desperately try Anything to get him back. At that point you can't say that they'd have been in on things because of fear, because they seem to sincerely care for his well-being. He's kinda similar to Lysandre, except Cyrus would want to start completely over somewhere else, whereas Lysandre would either kill everyone or grant everyone eternal life to preserve what he himself views as beautiful. His ideal things aren't necessarily evil, but the solution that he seeks for these things are far from great. The consequences would be devastating, you're knowingly altering a huge portion/faction of things etc. Lysandre knows fullwell that his actions would cause all this devastation. Rose I understand having the views that he does. He's been traumatized, in his eyes people don't care about longevity or the future & that factor could end up super badly in the future - so he wants to prevent that from happening. He could have worded his things better, he could have tried to be just a little more patient, but when no-one else seems to think in the same way as he does, he feels isolated and like he has to act Now. In doing this, he loses sight of stuff, ignores those near him and tries to rush towards what he sees as the 'conclusion' that'd solve all his problems. And that doesn't exactly go good. He felt like he was alone and in the end he was. The thing that he worries about isn't solved in the end, it's mostly just pushed to the side and ignored because it isn't relevant this very second Anyway, Ghetsis is still the worst. There's nothing I could find redeemable about him Which makes him an excellent villain

You give your opinion without making bias decisions based on the game or subject itself while still giving accurate information, hypotheses and fun commentary. Also, I think Volo was a more than a religious nutjob, considering his deal-with-the-devil type deal with Giratina to frenzy the Dragon of Time or Space, dressing like God (he did have drip tho; complete Sinnoh outfit 10 out of 10), and using Arceus powers over for some unanswered prayers.

I feel like Volo is a bit more evil than Cyrus, if only because of one thing... He truly believes that Arceus owes him something. This is a man who believes himself superior to his own god, and is ready to tear apart reality itself to demand answers that no one in existence could ever deserve or expect. He was bitter, ruthless, and while not necessarily sadistic...he has no care for the lives that would be annihilated, just for the sake of his own selfish wishes. Cyrus is still a dangerous monster in his own right. But his motivations seem to stem from fixing a perceived cosmic problem. Volo's stem from an egotistical and maniacal entitlement, with the whole act of creating something new simply being an added insult to the being he paradoxically devoted his whole life to.

I'd say Cyrus has one glimmer of light somewhere in there. He has a Crobat after all, a Pokemon that can only have evolved if its trainer genuinely cared for it. The question is how far down is that side of Cyrus, and is it even possible to bring it back to the surface?

One of the best things about Pokemon Mastersex is fixing Lysandre...that said, he also straight up murdered two rocket grunts in cold blood (though I would have done the same thing), but that just feels like it adds to his character at this point

Chairman Rose is literally just MCU Thanos in Pokemon, but instead of "the universe's resources", he's worried about "the world's energy", and he isn't a genocidal maniac. I like to believe that Archie and Maxie turn Teams Magma and Aqua into guardians of the Red and Blue Orbs, kinda like the Medjai in the Mummy movies or the Assassins and sometimes the Templars from Assassin's Creed Ghetsis should be a bit higher on the list and Cyrus should be a bit lower. Ghetsis treated his Hydreigon so badly that it has one of, if not the lowest, love for it's Trainer out of ALL Pokemon Antagonists. Ghetsis adopted and formed N into a political figurehead, using him and a fake PETA reasoning to justify legitimate terrorist attacks. He tries to personally kill the player character in B2&W2 by ordering Kyurem to freeze them solid. Cyrus is genuinely mentally challenged and only wanted to remake/destroy the world because he just didn't have the facilities to understand ordinary emotions, despite his love for Pokemon. I think that's the reason Cyrus chooses to live with Giratina in the Distortion World. Giratina understands wanting to destroy and not knowing why, thus seeing Cyrus as a kindred spirit. Giratina could help heal Cyrus' mind and relate to him as no one else has before

I'd say that Turo/Sada is the real villain of their game. The AI is nothing but helpful to your efforts to stop the plans of their creator, in spite of the fact said creator made them to carry on their work. Turo/Sada neglected their child, and died trying to protect a Pokemon they took out of its natural habitat from another Pokemon they also took from its natural habitat. They also made the Paradise Protection Protocol in order to prevent anyone from stopping their plan to effectively break a hole in the space-time continuum. They were completely irresponsible with their scientific endeavors (even going so far as turning their "Cancel The Plan" button into what would've been a deathtrap were it not for plot contrivances), and they were an objectively terrible person to their now thoroughly traumatized kid, who they didn't bother programming their AI double to even try to contact. Just before their end, their AI copy tells Arven that they cared about him, which Arven immediately dismisses with a "Don't say something like that now." The AI then tells Arven that he's right. I choose to take that as the AI telling Arven that the parent who actively did nothing to help him did so because they didn't care. So, tl;dr: Turo/Sada was an abusive parent whose plan to make their ideal world put the entire world at risk, which puts them at least as high as Ghetsis.

I think that the pure evil in the higher places come less from intentions or developing of the characters, and more from not being thought out too much. The further good the villians are, the better they are written, and while there are some exceptions (GCis and Volo being a bit better or Lusamine and Guzma, where we dont know at all why they are taking these decisions, at least from the games sight), the pure glimmer of evil comes from being not good developed characters.

You cannot convince me that Ghetsis is not the most evil one, easily. He straight up tried to k'll the Protagonist. He would have laughed as the ice spikes turned you into a kebab stick. There is zero sympathy possible for him, he literally has no redeeming qualities at all, and seemingly no good reason for doing what he does either. He does it just for the hell of it. Because he can. And he will never feel remorse.
