Welcome to another challenge video! Does the Meatball have the skills to get through, or is this one of the dreaded "impossible" challenges? Well find out as I attempt to complete a Pokemon Yellow Hardcore Nuzlocke with only FIRE TYPES!

Rules of the challenge:
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch one Pokémon on each Route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokémon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

Hey folks, for some reason the audio gets to be a little different for a few minutes in this video, idk why but it doesn't sound bad so I wasn't too worried about redoing that section. Hope it isn't a turn-off for you. Streams for the shiny franchise nuzlocke start up again tomorrow, hope to see you there for FireRed!

Blue is under level in lavender Town because you're meant to explore the Poke Tower to get the information to get the silphscope. You clear the tower first then rocket hideout then back to cubones mother.

Honestly, I think you should have changed your starter into Magmar since you can't get it in Yellow and Charmander you can. It's not often seen in nuzlocks and just makes sense.

Due to 10 year old me not using any moves that dont directly deal damage, this is my first time seeing the swords dance animation in this game and i think it's better than modern Pokemon's

It doesn’t get better until gen 4 with ponyta then gen 6 with litleo and pansear but before those no fire types before gym 1 or in most cases 2 or 3

@@Acacius1992 basically the dp dex is such a nightmare decision I don’t understand it ,like why cut so many gen 4 mons why such bad distributions,like the poke radar and the gba cartridges add some diversity the main game really needed

Was there ever a doubt that Fire-type monotype challenges would be always be deathless because of Charizard being so OP? XD Nice to see a deathless run, even though that Flareon nearly ate it from Dragonite. Dragonite's Hyper Beam is NO JOKE. ;)

You could have used the badge boost glitch with Arcanine against Lance. Agility to increase your stats. Making your flamethrower, take down, or hyper beam quite a bit stronger.

If you're not going to do it, I'm tempted to backport Fairy (and dark + steel) to gens 1-5 (and 1 again) for challenge run purposes.

IIRC, Blaine in Yellow was fixed so he only uses the Super Potion when his Pokemon are at low health, not at any time. IDK if you're actually going and fighting the Level 2 Pidgeys, or hacking in the correct amount of stat exp, but Level 2 Spearow (14.44) and Level 2 NidoranF (14.69) actually give more Stat EXP per Experience point than Pidgey (14.40). If you have access to switch training, there are even higher values possible.

I’m interested in seeing a Ghost type only, AKA Gastly line only Red/Blue and Yellow run. I’ve been trying to do it myself for awhile, but I have trouble with the level cap. I try using the Pokémon I need for cut to switch and absorb exp. Be curious how you’d handle it. I’ve seen Gastly only, but they don’t use level caps.

The idea for the rival fight in the pokemon tower is rhat you would climb it your first visit to find that there are a lot of ghosts that you cant fight, so you just keep running, fighting all the Channelers and eventually running into Blue potentially mourning the loss of one of his own pokemon. Y'all spar and go about your days and you cant even reach the top because of a particularly powefful ghost blocking the stairs. You leave the tower and talk to someone (i dont remember who) and they tell you you need the Silph Scope to see the ghost for what they are. Years later we, the player, know better. But in the game we, the character, have no clue why we're heading to Celadon unless it happens to be our first stop after Erika, which it almost never is.

Fun fact: in gen 1, Flareon has the second highest special stat of all fire-type Pokémon, only one ahead of it is Moltress.

I actually prefer stat experience over EVs. EVs are impossible to control in the early game so without a way to reset them your starter is terrible in competitive and battle tower etc.

Great video and great entertainment. Quick question: Since Magmar was an exclusive mon why didnt you use the randomizer to make Magmar your starter? After all Charmander can be obtained fairly early. And yes I have checked Magmars learnset for Yellow

At that point it's just an arbitrary rule then, for me it's trying to beat the game as vanilla as possible, with usually only the starter being changed if the typing is too deep into the game to get to for a fun video.

@@robertbounds2807 first of all, to even GET horsea, you need Pyrce's badge. Secondly, you will still be going into the elite four with just a kingdra and a dragonair. Neither mon get set up moves either.

Magmar's not an available encounter in Yellow, so no. The goal is to beat the game as stock as possible (aka with minimal changes) so just bringing Charmander up to the beginning rather than having to wait for two gym badges made more sense.
