You know i love you bro but I do have to say... i have been kinda pushing paldea evolved for months now on at least 5 to 10 different videos 😂 Trust me i had 0 to do with this, i get it, but this is the strongest SV set and i think it was somewhat easy to see it being the first one to move. Or maybe i just got lucky 😅

You DID call it and people could’ve bought these from me for way cheaper and NOW that we rose the price to $118/box we’ve sold 7 cases worth … guarentee you when shiny treasure EX gets back up to the $75 range, we’ll sell twice as many per week as we are now 😅

Paldea Evolved since even before release until now, has been a constant favorite in my mind. The way it looks in a binder, the set size, future value potential, 2 different very strong chase cards. Dude I could write an essay or make my own vid just on how good I think Paldea is. I’m also a simp for Paradox though. Great vid! 👍

I haven’t ripped a lot of Paradox Rift but it has some awesome art I vibe with. I was super happy to see that we are getting some overdue trainer cards, most notably Shauna from B&W. Hoping to the the other Elite 4 soon!

The price growth for this set is pretty organic if you ask me. If you skim more popular Poketuber comment sections, you see a lot of collectors saying how much they love this set and how it's kinda drying up in their local areas. No more sleeved boosters in most stores. I haven't seen blisters, 3-packs, Build and Battles or booster bundles at retail in forever. When A new tin or collection box comes out, PE is often missing or has the least amount of packs in the product. It has some great IRs and SIRs. Both Ionos are cool chases. The Tinkatink line has a growing following. The Magikarp is top shelf artwork. So many reasons to like the set. It's still below MSRP but I'm surprised it took this long for it to hit $120 a BB. It's been drying up for months now. It is strange how people in this hobby clamor over certain sets only when the prices go up. Sometimes paying 50-100% more for stuff during the rise. Strange, strange stuff. Haha

The Pokemon market is predicable as hell: everyone undervalues what they can get easily and cheaply, and freaks out as soon as it starts becoming more expensive 🤷‍♂️ It doesn’t matter how many times this happens. It’ll just happen again. I was seriously baited by the title here thinking: “who the hell has been pumping this set??” And I enjoyed the video when I got here, haha. Thanks Brian!

You covered this in a previous video of how we live in our own bubble. When you think of how many cards are being purchased just in the US and Canada alone, it is hard to think any one KZfaqr is influencing sales to that caliber.

Makes me laugh to see people buying fusion strike for 250 dollars when it was 80 a year or two ago. Sure it might go up more, but that’s 170 dollars you lost you could have sunk into other stuff that hasn’t ballooned yet. Very emotional. Same with these alt arts. I bought everything I wanted last year when no one wanted it. It’s why you always collect what you want, not what others say you should want.

It’s no surprise though. These are the same people that chased GameStop and amc years ago, or at the least the same mentality. I keep thinking people are going to smarten up one day, but every generation keeps repeating the same mistakes.

@@1st_edition your missing what he’s saying. What’s the more likely situation to happen, fusion strike hitting 500 will probably take another two years. And in that same time frame, and paldea evolved will be probably be 200. But paldea has almost no risk, and fusion has a good amount of risk to it. If your going to hold for years go for it, but if your trying hold a few years sell and reinvest go the safest route.

@@poke-transport1910exactly. If you miss one investment wait for the next. If you really love fusion strike you would have bought it at 80 bucks and be up 200% right now. All these people jumping in now are too late. The investment is no longer safe. Same with all the alt arters. Gengar vmax was under 200 when I got it a year ago, if you loved the card that much you would have bought it then. It’s too late to invest in safely now. Look for the next cool card in scarlet violet . Look forward, not back.

I think part of the problem is how many sets come out plus the bully distributors as you mention you don’t order an amount they don’t “bless” you. Additionally, so many sellers around that are racing to the bottom, forces hand. If new sets come out every 2-3 months.. but takes you 6-12 months to get back to break even or a few extra dollars.. you’d have to keep sitting on 1-3 sets that still can’t sell at a decent price.

This is the ultimate argument that should’ve been made in jluvs video. Everyone wants to compare pokemon to stocks and I agree. People love to buy when it’s too late. The winners here are the winners there. People will chase winners too late only to be stuck losing on shipping and fees on tcg.

I bought 3 booster boxes of paldea evolved for 72 dollars each, a few months back. I knew that was a great deal and it won’t get better than that. People are crazy thinking scarlet and violet is a bad era. SMH

Paldea Evolved is probably the most playable set from SV so it doesn’t surprise me that it’s going up already. Cards (chien pao) from the set did REALLY well last weekend at indi regionals. Not to mention it has all the arts that people use to bling out their decks. Def not the whole reason it’s going up but this is def the top regular set in SV so far in my uneducated opinion

I havent seen a set jump up like this(while its in stock in the Pokemon Center) since Evolving Skies. Dont get me wrong im not saying this is Evolving Skies, but really caught me off guard seeing the price go up so fast. Booster Box Cases are currently around $700

no idea about any of these trends but i recently got back in to pokemon and PAL was the only SV set i bought BBs of because the art looks sick. the chase cards might be better on fates but the overall art on evolved made me buy 3 BBs($100/per) off rip. i did end up preordering some twilight masquerade later out of fomo but i kinda regret it from how ugly the top end is.

I moved in on LO at $130 forever ago. Fusion strike at $80 years ago. Battle Styles at $75. I’m just now feeling good about the cases I bought. PE spiked and I’m over it, but was never feeling it, lol. I’ve not really felt good on any SV except 151.

I'm sure what I'm about has a psychological name but I don't know it.. Anyways the most ironic phenomenon in the investment space is that the 1st rule you'll ever get told is to "BUY LOW, SELL HIGH". But for some reason, fucking everyone and their grandmother buys high and sells low.

Pokeyoutube investors certainly have an added influence, but they’re not solely responsible for demand spikes. I think Pokémon just pumps out sets too frequently and people can’t take as much time as they’d like buying certain sets. When SV base and PE came out, crown zenith was still brand new and everyone was still focused on that and chasing the moonbreon. The back end of SWSH overshadowed SV. Now that SWSH sets are getting harder to find out in the wild, the demand is moving organically to the next good sets in line. There wasn’t a high demand at first because there was more pressure to buy up what was on its way out the door. People just chase things as they see them becoming more scarce.

It's a chain reaction, new shops open up without distributors yet and those new shops buy out large bulk of less expensive sets to sell which causes private bulk buyers to notice the price shift and they start buying, then resellers start noticing and buying product they think people are chasing then collector and investors start noticing the price shift in those sets and they start focusing on which cards they think people are chasing from those sets then the Social Media (YT/Twitter/Insta, etc) guys start noticing heavily and make videos and posts on it which again boosts it up slightly which is not applicable to EVERY price shift or set but it does happen on a small scale. Then everyone gets bored and the process starts again.

@@pokene_pokemon I agree you'd have to be insane to do that but people are doing it pretty regularly recently, I think it's a lot of the people rediscovering the hobby within the past few years and then eventually getting into the business side who also have disposable income thinking that it's a great idea to open up a card shop. There's 5 new ones here in Massachusetts alone that I know of and I imagine a bunch of others in various states and that's in the US alone. Not purely Pokémon of course but most card shops sell more than just one product and Pokémon is one of the best sellers so it's a no brainer to carry at least some, even if it's the cheapest sets you can get your hands on. All of those stores need product, so yea definitely a theory but I think it's pretty plausible.

I don't see the Paldea Evolved hype as all that mysterious, it's the only S&V set that has a card that has increased considerably and organically since the sets release and unavoidable post-release slump; Magikarp. The card is rapidly climbing to be a 1000$ in PSA 10.

I buy what I want when I want because it's just gonna sit in my collection for the next 10 years. So whatever the price is now is irrelevant to what it'll be worth in a decade. Just collect what you love and forget what everyone else is doing.

Like rudy said in his old videos. It s not about real value it s about perceived value. If you can market a product in a way that it seems to be sought after and expensive ( maybe rare ) then it will sell even if it s junk. If fusion strike was $80 today people would say that the set sucks. And list arguments why it s bad When it s $200 everyone points out why it deserves a $200 pricetag and people buy it for said amount because of that. It works until it doesn t.

I have been feeling like Paldea has been the best SV set so far for a while. But this is because I don’t think a good set exists yet and Paldea has the most appealing arts so far and also the most popular pokemon. I am a boomer and I think the new versions of Entei, suicune and raikou is criminal.

Most LGS make money from singles and not sealed products. And so their sealed product price is more for clot with the local community.

Paldea is a sweet set, but i aint paying $40 below MSRP. After the reprint, I'll get my position in around $90-95 per box. In the off chance it doesnt get a reprint, oh well, thats how it goes sometimes. But no way am I buying into the hype train.... Sell into it, don't buy into it...

New Investors fail to Understand basic Supply and demand for aging products. You need to believe in the products you invest into on your own without anybody's influence. By the time people are FOMOing into products, you have already missed out onto the local bottom price (The best deal).

Your video is spot on except for Paldea Evolved. I think every investor has mentioned this whole year that Paldea is the only good main set, specifically Alex since day one has been a believer. People seem to like Temporal as well but I think it’s because its pull rates are bad so that makes it more “investable”.

Yea some low-view KZfaqrs have mentioned it over the past few months- but as far as it going up at NEARLY the speed it did, nobody was even close to guessing. I don’t think it’s all that impressive or telling for a poketuber to tell people a cheap set will be a good long term investment. Every single set pokemons ever released has been a good long term investment. I’m mostly critiquing the concept these people have any effect on the current price. And I stand by the fact they don’t

Most people use the price to dictate how much they want a product. When something is cheap and readily available, no one wants it. Once the item increases in value, their preception changes, and they chase it. It is the "going with the herd" mentality thing that is built into human psychology. This happens all the time in all types of markets and is driven by the basic emotions of fear and greed (FOMO and FUD).

Rudy (From Alpha Investments) just shilled S&V Base set in his last video, because he loaded the most in the worst set to the block, I don't think he will influence the set price anytime soon, but he is trying hard to exit that big of a loss asap. You don't see him shilling Crimson Invasion, something as bad as S&V Base, because he doesn't hold many or much. He is probably the largest holder of S&V Base boosters in a single collection.

Sometimes you just need to get things off your chest lol Maybe I missed your argument but to say that Pokémon investing channels have no impact on prices, is just incorrect in my opinion. Why would these types of channels even have an audience if that was the case? I will say that I don’t believe that a single poketuber is responsible for price increases but collectively I believe they have had a huge impact. They have helped to create a subdivision of people interested in Pokémon. In the past it was just players and collectors mainly. Now you have KZfaq channels, discords, and other platforms where investor types interact with one another. I’m curious to know, If you don’t think investors have any impact on these price increases, what do you believe to be the main reason for these increases?

As I said in the video, I don’t know. But based on the fact fusion strike, Paldea evolved and now silver tempest are the ones booming right now, it doesn’t seem like KZfaqrs had much of an impact…. If anything these 3 sets got the more flack than any others … chilling reign too 😂

Pretty much everyone on eBay and TCG player when the set came out and they realized they over-bought compared to the demand. Paldea evolved got a lot of hate when it came out

Brian you should reconsider what you want to be on youtube. You say you're making a video to "chase views", you're referencing a video by another creator you didn't even watch (he didnt get the data you showed from TCG player...) and youre straight thinking because youre a $3m store you know everything about how the influencers market works. Didn't Logan Paul fuel the fire that was Pokemon during covid? Some creators don't have the reach to shift markets, others do. You're only saying content creators dont play a role here because YOU don't play a role as you're still not influential enough. You actually answer your own questions... "Why are you selling at $4 loss" - "I used to do it at some point...". Who said their prices are anywhere near yours? Seems like youre more frustrated at the fact that your bread and butter - Japanese cards - are down bad that now you cant compete in the English market because folks are doing what you did in Japanese - Selling as low as possible early on to keep competitors away. I have no doubt these major stores are able to get enough product they can afford to make $1-2 per box during release, and have enough inventory once things start climbing to make their profits - or else they'd run out of business... How can Trading Card World maintain a physical shop compared to your basement? All this video is unfortunately is the 2nd part of your title - a super salty rant based on nothing but your own personal feelings...

Just like it influenced cryto, NFTs, and every other “alt investment” he also left the space 3 years ago I make it clear in the video multiple times that a 3M company is small and I DONT know anything nor do I pretend to All stores pay between 87-95 per box including Rudy from alpha investment who spends half a million dollars per set I’m making more money on Japanese cards than ever before as I’m getting them under msrp and selling at a 25-30% margin compared to our old 18-20% Telling viewers I’m chasing views takes away any illusion that I’m pretending I’m more important than I am. (Called transparency) Local game stores can charge more than me because they provide an experience and community that my basement does not provide Show me a video of someone more influential than me (TONS of people) having a positive influence on fusion strike, paldea evo, or silver tempest and I will send you a box of any set you want for free

@@pokene_pokemon COVID just accelerated the shift to "alt investments", but it was in the making anyway, and we are STILL very much early. Paldea Evolved has been valued as the best set of S&V by many people over the past few months, and the alternate art of the set speaks by itself when compared to the rest. People are starting to fomo, it is being declared as the Evolving Skies of Scarlet & VIolet, and people don't want to miss out, it has all the "cards" to be the best set of the S&V era unless something much better comes around before it concludes. This is when the people decided that "Charizard" is the top G of them all, now people are agreeing that Paldea Evolved is the top box of the S&V era and that's how it is, no need to be upset or fight what is being declared a social consensus/agreement on the classification of this set.

Oh I’m not upset but yes it’s 100% fomo. I don’t think the masses actually enjoy the set either. If they did, they would’ve bought it months ago when the price was more affordable than any other set of the generation. People are jumping on now because of fomo and nothing else (as you stated) fomo is the main catalyst in my opinion; not actual fandom. But I’m deffs not upset; I held onto a pallet of this for a reason 😂

@@pokene_pokemon I believe many got left sidelined and did not buy yet because the set is fairly recent, and a reprint is highly likely. People were already planing to buy cases of Paldea Evolved in their heads, but did not action due to availability and "no need to rush yet". The price spike is very justified as the sidelined were forced to FOMO due to the unfulfilled desire rather than a newly incident desire if you know what I mean.

35 listings on the silver tempest.......35 listings of boxes....you're saying your video would never mess with the market. If 1% of 1% of your views bought 1 box, what would that do to the 35 listings left? Are they all priced the same? Your videos and the "pump" effect is no different than a Danny Phantump or anyone else. It's a continual pump, that amplifies as the supply dries up on main markets (so people can show cool graphs).

@@pokene_pokemon please - you know exactly what I mean. Regardless of supply the next listing sold typically is higher priced. Go ahead - buy everything on TCGPlayer...but is the next box listed going to be lower or higher priced? Don’t act like you don’t know this. It’s embarrassing. What do you think the 36th listing the person will go “ah geez these are all over priced! I better put mine back down at $100”. Of course not. That only happens in the beginning of a set. Sure, prices move, but as supply goes down and you're talking sets from years ago, there's only going to be a slow drip added so any surge in sales will hav ean effect. So every round of video, every time a talking head like yourself “doesn’t pump” it, there will be a few sales. If you’re going to be the honest guy at least take that into consideration. Want proof? Why else do you have an online store AND a KZfaq if not to promote your product, your business, your industry. You say it yourself - you’re here to make money. Sorry if this comes across negatively but frankly a bit tired of all the poketuber “niches” all saying the same thing but different ways while throwing shade at each other. It just comes across as unprofessional, ignorant, and super childish.
