To get a bad clone using only the Gameboy is this: When cloning, shut off the game half a second after the word "power" appears. You have to be a millisecond accurate. It could take quite a while depending on your luck to get a bad clone with this method.
Yes, this is real. Using the Hex Values of attacks, you can change any pokemon with Beat Up as their third move into a Celebi. And yes, the Celebi is real, meaning it's not just a different pokemon that gets the appearance of a Celebi.
The Pokedex does show you have caught a Celebi and the Celebi learns all its level-up moves as you train it.
This trick was originally discovered by Paco__81 on the glitchcity.info boards
I slightly modified it so the Celebi would not automatically start at level 100 when you get it. Instead, it starts at level 1 and using a rare candy, it becomes level 2 which makes it a completely normal Pokemon. The Exp Points are accurate, its stats are those of a normal Celebi, and it learns attacks that a Celebi would normally learn.
As long as you delete the glitched pokemon, you will have no future problems such as garbage letters in the Hall of Fame, random freezings, etc.
This glitch can be used not only for getting Celebi, but any Pokemon or Item including the impossible to get items such as HM09 and the GS Ball.
Oh yeah, and thanks to Bobby for letting me use his Crystal Version.

So I have some questions. Does the glitch truly start when you first catch sneasel or does it start when you get the bad clone??? I only have Pokémon stadium 2, a copy of Pokémon silver and Pokémon Crystal and no gameboy. I also get good clones on my Pokémon silver version. Can I clone the renamed Sneasels on my Pokémon silver, trade them over to Pokémon crystal and then start the glitch by getting a bad clone??? I really need to know before I try this.

I keep trying to get a bad clone, but it keeps giving me a sneasel clone on lvl 57 with “Togetic” as its name. So I just save in a Pokémon center without viewing the clone’s stat menu and then go to the stadium lab and release the clone. I did it exactly how you showed but I can’t get a bad clone with lvl 0 for nothing.

I saw this video about 8 years ago. At the time, I was in love with the second generation Pokémon games, so I was excited to try this out. I couldn't do it, though, because I didn't have a Nintendo 64, Pokémon Stadium 2, or a Transfer Pak. I never forgot about this video. 8 years later, I came into possession of the system, game, and the accessory. Yesterday, I finished the Kanto post game. I decided to try this method out. I was so excited when making the bad clone. When I turned on the system after attempting it, my save file became corrupted. Time to get back at it.

Hahahha, I remember in 1999 when I had Pokemon Red and Mew was the impossible Pokemon to find in a normal way in the game... and many years ago when I sold my game I saw it was possible... Shit!! I thought. Fortunatelly I kept my Pokemon Gold and now I can try this one of this days LOL.

I can confirm this works on a Pokemon Gold emulator. When cloning for the bad clone find the balance point where the pokemon is cloned and when it isn't (too early/too late). From there try to reset right at that in between point. It's after the text box disappears but before any of the S in SAVING... appears. It took me just over an hour of attempts before I got my bad clone. I then did the egg glitch which resulted in a level 0 celebi. After raising it two levels at the daycare it acts like a normal celebi.

Also, the Pokemon I put at the top of my party did not get deleted, it just had its nickname changed into my Trainer name. The only problem I ran into was that my Celebi did not immediately show up on my Pokedex. I had to trade it from Gold to Silver and back and then it showed up. If you don't have both versions, I don't really see a point in doing this glitch anyway because you can't get all 251, so this problem is rather minor. Have fun using this glitch. It works very well.

Does the Sneasal have to be caught by the same OT? I caught one on crystal and traded to gold where I had less to lose if I fucked it up but I keep getting GOOD clones which you said wasn't possible on Stadium 2???? Please advise.

This works perfectly. The only minor differences between the way I did it and the way Brian did it: I cloned three pokemon at once to up my chances of getting a bad clone, only two of my Sneasels were holding mail instead of four, and my Celebi wound up at level 100 instead of level 1 when I got it from the daycare. Otherwise, it works great, the Celebi is in the Pokedex and is legit. Thumbs up.

man, i've seen this video for years now but I only came around to actually do this glitch about 5 minutes ago. Absolutely fantastic. First try, nothing went wrong. Well, the pokedex entries all got a little screwed up, it told me I caught pokemon I never even saw, or pokemon that I owned were only listed as seen, for example the previous evolutions of my starter pokemon were only marked as seen but not as caught, but it's not really a big deal. After ten years I finally got a celebi, thanks!

Or you could do this: A modified version of the Celebi Egg glitch will spawn a GS Ball as a held item. Take it to Ilex Forest. Using it at the forest's shrine would prompt an encounter where a wild Celebi could be captured.

JD21 Looks like you aren't aware of the cloning glitch in Gen 2. You can clone Pokemon with that glitch. (And items if your Pokemon holds the item.)

I wonder if there's any way to control the Celebi's DVs? If there is I assume it would be dependent on the Sneasel you catch. Anybody who can confirm or refute this please let me know.

I kinda wanna do this, but first I wanna know if a shiny Sneasel works as well, and if it makes your Celebi shiny? I did the shiny Gyarados trick in yellow and now have a shiny Ditto in crystal. Now I'm able to breed any shiny because of the epic 1/64 chance gen II offers you when a shiny parent is involved in the breeding proces. So getting a shiny Sneasel shouldn't be any problem. Does Celebi still learn leech seed, heal bell and recover? Because these are some really great starter moves. But first, let's finish my little brothers pokemon Gold, because my pokemon crystal is much too valuable.

I have heard that you need to have Reflect as the 4th move and I have with two exeggcute but the hatched pokemon did not have a gs ball or any item. I did not use any clones it was a male and female in the daycare. Is there anything else to the trick used to make a pokemon hatch with a held item?

Got Celebi successfully, but I needed a LOT of money to get everyone back from daycare (around 25,000 yen) and it was level 100. I suspect that my bad clone wasn't bad enough. It was a sneasel, opposite gender, level 0, but instead of a gibberish name, it had no name at all. Just a blank. I'm happy with my lvl 100. Celebi kinda sucks so I only wanted it for the pokedex. i did make my bad clones in the crystal version, boxes 14 and 13, 4 sneasels each time. And I didn't catch the sneasels, i passed from my silver version :) GOOD LUCK!

@MacintoshPlus1MB I didn't have any issues with glitches because my bad clone disappeared. I don't know what would've happened if that clone was still in my game, however. As with most glitches, it would probably be better to do it on a different game just to make sure, but if you don't have that option, I don't think it is too risky. Basically it's up to you. If it's worth risking damage to your game (slight chance) to get Celebi, go for it because the glitch works, otherwise, don't.

I remember following this a few years ago to get a Celebi on my Silver version. However, I may have done something differently because I got different results. At first, I got a glitched Celebi that would never stop leveling up if exp was earned (even if it wasn't at level 1). The second time I did it, I got a level 5 Celebi with it's actual legit level up attacks. This is the Celebi I kept and use. I really wish I remember what I had done though to get the level 5 Celebi :/

How would you use this glitch to get the GS Ball? Will the GS Ball then act as an Event for the actual Celebi?
