I find it funny that people always use the exhibition match instead of the actual match that made him champion of Alola which was Ash vs gladion. Ash vs Kukui is just his first battle as champion his debut if you will

But it's more fun that way cause tapukoko was a more hype match than the gladion fight kukui should have been the acting champion just to have an actual champion fight but alas alola dosent have a champion before ash which also makes sense as why they made ash the champion in that region.

1:24 i mean he defeated arceus to be fair and many other legendary pokemon. 2:24 head canon: he is a pokemon god that is required to reach top rank and to quell any legendary pokemon's fury when they are being erratic and disturbing the "peace" of the universe but he doesn't know his exact goal and only has a strong urge to do such things. i mean, it would explain how he can SoMeHow talk to pokemon, and maybe, just maybe, pikachu is also a god that was sent by arceus but also has no recollection of his duty except to help ash but doesn't know who gave him the order. also look at what ash's name means (not full answer from google, but a part of it) The Vikings and Gaels considered the ash tree a symbol of protection believed to preserve the purity of holy wells and springs. so... is that enough evidence for you?
