Polish history is like a good anime. Beautiful, full of plot twists, turns, tragedies and betrayals (mostly by its nobility and foreign allies, plus allies turned villains (Austria)) and heroism. There is a Polish phrase stating. "Can you count? Then count on yourself. You can't count on others" (allies, guarantees and so on).

The valiant defenders of Europe against the Ottoman heretics, the bullwark against fanatic knigths of the German order and the Russian bear. A truly magnificent and fascinating history, only rivaled by the likes of the Russian, French or German histories, which are in their own right, a continuation of countless ups and downs, advances and setbacks. Histories, which surpass what we modern humans write down in fantasy novels in every sense. Love Poland, and may its eagle always fly high above the skies. Greetings from Germany.

It feels like a real story, it's really deep and taught me a lot of things. It's also the reason why I started to be interested in history. Because of that I think his comment is very nice and it would be lovely if I could see a good historical anime in the future

We have to remember Hungarians. They send to us over 60 mln ammos, 30 thousands Mauser rifles, mauser's parts, field kitchens, military stoves. French helped us too. BUT there were big troubles "thanks" to Germans and Czechs (even Austrian socialists) who blocked trains from France and Hungary and they had to transport it throught Vien-Hungary-Romania-Lwów.. Hungarians even tried to send their cavalry and military volunteer but Slovaks and Czechs were against this idea. Thanks to all people of good will on this earth. Regards!

@indulonman - actually it was the Czechs who attacked in 1919, using the Polish-Russian war to take lands from Poland (which were later retaken 1938, during Czech-German war). Both sides acted shitty in their petty conflict, ignoring the bigger picture of a potential Czech-Polish alliance.
@Indulonman
@Indulonman 8 жыл бұрын
olseneudezet1 Attacking to take lands from Poland is a complete nonsense. The "attack" was the last possibility to stop elections to Seim, which violated current agreements, after all diplomatic solutions failed. The attack was then stopped by Triple Entete pressure and new demarcation line was set. But I agree with your last point.

You know that locals (both) Rada Narodowa Księstwa Cieszyńskiego (Poles) and Zemský Národní Výbor Pro Slezsko (Czechs), decided, Zaolzie (with polish majority) should belong to polish state. During Tuchaczewki's and his bolshevik's comrades invasion toward Warsaw (all predicted Poland will colapse again), Edvard Beneš persuaded polish politics, that big powers should decide about zaolzie belonging not a democratic plebiscite, Poles (locals) organised a plebiscite anyway. Czechs invaded this teritory, more poles died, wounded and missed than soldiers on czech's side. Poles get back it in '38. But you are right it's stupid to fight each other for small pieace of land, and human beings did it till now. How many Germans and French died because of small piece of teritory like Saarland/Saare? Terrible ;-) But what's the point. Germans and Russians try to whitewash their crimes... our polish-czech conflicts are NOTHING compared to their imperialistc policy and mass slaughter. Regards.

Yea i mean im a pole and i live n grew up in germany, so i had to deal with alot of those ww2 jokes lol. I mean i got used to it, but i realized how formative this kinda stuff is. People actually thought of poland as this poor little country thats stuck inbetween the bigger n stronger countries all the time throughout history (just like that P**nhub picture of that small white girl on the couch inbetween a couple big brolic black dudes). But in reality its that fighting spirit, that made us truly famous throughout the history. We are what defines a phoenix, we stand up after being crushed n completely demolished, 2 times stronger and in fresh new skin. WW2 was just one of many difficult situations, there were even bigger n greater moments (for example saving europe many times, but not getting any credit for it nowadays. Same with stealing n breaking the german enigma code n saving millions of lives, having WW2 last a couple of years shorter than it would and therefore maybe even saving the world, otherwise germany would win this world war and the power over this planet). Nowadays we are the ones who wanna leave europe smh.. atleast the right wing party thats ruling poland atm is. So poland nowadays, isnt the poland we all used to know, our government is ruled by a retard and destroying all of this good reputation we had. The poles themselves and the spirit, never died or changed. But obviously there are many people that actually have changed cause of this right wing party.. oh well. Thanks for the support tho lol

People seem to underestimate just how awesome Poland really is Whether it's defending their homeland from the Bolsheviks like a boss Or saving Europe from the Ottomans in 1683 Or at one point in time having one of Europe's most powerful and most progressive nations, having one of the world's greatest elite forces, the hussars, under its ranks Whether it maintaining its national identity despite been torn apart by its powerful neighbours for 123 years, even initiating several almost-successful uprisings to restore its nation, like the one in 1831 against Russia, which were only put down due to the numerical superiority of the enemy Whether its not being silenced throughout WW2 despite being under Nazi occupation from the very start of the war, which to Poland was incredibly disastrous, and after which followed another oppressive, development-hindering occupant Or whether its producing geniuses in almost every field, such as Marie Curie, Copernicus and Chopin And to top it all off, you Poles don't brag about your awesomeness all the time like us Russians tend to do And nowadays you are mostly seen as just another post-communist Eastern European country But you Poles know what you really are, and there is no one who could compare. We can the discuss the european migrant crisis for ages. The reason Poland is so "rasicst" or rather non accepting of migrants primarely from the middle east, is because poles are smart enough to know what will happen next. Take a look at germany, france, britain and the nordic countries. Huge political debates are ongoing about this migrant issue. And btw, there will always be some people reprecenting a county in a very bad way. And yes, try to go to Poland, and your eyes will see how developed and non racist poles really are. A lot of asian people live in Poland for example

I dodawano: „Zapoczątkowana przez najczarniejszą reakcję plugawa wojna domowa, w której biorą udział i sanacyjne oddziały Armii Krajowej, znajduje swoje źródła ideologiczne w hitleryzmie”. Wraz z utworzeniem Głównego Zarządu Polityczno-Wychowawczego rozpoczęto szeroko zakrojone działania nad stworzeniem korpusu oficerów polityczno-wychowawczych we wszystkich jednostkach WP. Uruchomiono Centralną Szkołę Oficerów Polityczno-Wychowawczych w Lublinie (w 1945 rok przeniesioną do Łodzi).

"Controversies[edit] The mutual accusations by both parties of the conflict in violations of the basic rules of the war conduct were rampant and full of exaggerations. Norman Davies writes that "Polish and Soviet newspapers of that time competed in which could produce a more terrifying portrait of their opponent."[29] Soviet propaganda claimed that Poles destroyed much of Kiev's infrastructure, including the passenger and cargo railway stations, and other purely civilian objects crucial for the city functioning, such as the electric power station, the city sewerage and water supply systems as well as monuments such as St Volodymyr's Cathedral.[30] The Poles denied that they committed any such acts of vandalism, claiming that the only deliberate damage they carried out during their evacuation was blowing up Kiev bridges across the Dnieper River,[31] for strictly military reasons.[32] The cathedral was not, in fact, destroyed.[32] According to some Ukrainian sources, incidents of more controversial destruction in the city not warranted by military needs by the retreating Polish army have also occurred.[33] Accusations were made against the Soviet side as well. Richard Watt writes that the Soviet advance into Ukraine was characterized by mass killing of civilians and the burning of entire villages, especially by Budyonny's cossacks, designed to instill a sense of fear in the Ukrainian population.[34] Norman Davies notes that on June 7 - two days after breaking Polish frontline - Budionny's 1st Army destroyed the bridges in Zhytomyr, wrecked the train station and burned various buildings; on the same day it burned a hospital in Berdychiv, with 600 patients and Red Cross nuns, and that such terror tactics were common for Budionny's Cossacks.[35] According to The Black Book of Communism, in the pacification of Ukraine that began during the Soviet counteroffensive in 1920 and which would not end until 1922 the Soviets would take tens of thousands of Ukrainian lives.[36] Isaac Babel, a war correspondent embedded with the Red Army, in his diary wrote down supposed atrocities committed by the Polish troops and their allies, as well as the murders of the Polish POWs by the Red Army troops and looting of the civilian population by Budyonny's Red Cossacks.[37] Babel's writings became so known that Budionny himself protested against "defamation" of his troops.[29]" source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiev_Offensive_(1920)

One thing is lacking though: Piłsudski was a political leader but a complete amateur on military subjects. At the time of the Battle of Warsaw he was sufferring from mental breakdown, and only accepted a battle plan prepared by general Rozwadowski. Piłsudski was supposed to attack a withdrawing Soviet army after the battle but for two days he was doing nothing in disbelief that the battle was won and his late counterattack hit into nothing.

John Last time I checked Poland was liberated by the Soviet Union, not the British nor the Americans. As it turned out the Soviets already had thrown out Nazi Germany completely from Poland by the time the Yalta Conference took place. It was perfectly clear at the time the borders of post-war Europe would be dictated by who was in possession of what. Did you know what Churchill thought about Poland? This is from his memoirs The Gathering Storm: "And now, when all of these benefits and all this aid has been lost and discarded, England, leading the France offers to guarantee the integrity of Poland - the same in Poland, which just six months ago with greed hyena appetite took part in the robbery and destruction of the Czechoslovak state." Are you seriously implying Roosevelt and Churchill should declare war on Stalin just because they weren't given Poland who they hadn't done jack shit to liberate? And it sure as hell wasn't just Poland who fell under Stalin, the same thing applied the Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia (and Tito broke with Stalin in 1948 and went his own way unlike Poland), and last but not least East-Germany. What the hell makes Poland a special snowflake but not those other countries?? Again, seeing as 80% of all German casualties came on the Eastern Front (check German official sources at Feldgrau) and they sacrificed hundreds of thousands to drive out Nazi Germany (which we all know saw Poles as little above Jews) out of Poland, and the Cold War ended quarter of century ago you're going to whine and complain about something that happened long ago?? How does that matter *today* ?? Poland saved the world's ass a few times. Exaggerating much?? No wonder the Germans hated you. That kind of rabid nationalism justified the aggressive politics of Nazi Germany. They didn't just make up things completely out of the blue you know. Poland was frickin' *far* from a democratic western state prior to WW2 and was ruled by a deeply nationalistic military leadership. Democracy existed in name only. Btw, during this time the German, Ukrainian and Belarus minorities were increasingly marginalized. Eugenic ideals not unlike those in Nazi Germany were already in place. And I think the Polish *jews* wanting to leave Poland after WW2 to go live in Israel says it all. It wasn't just the German Nazis who treated them poorly. I don't know why you try to groom the British who view Poles as scum and Americans who have jokes about "stupid Poles". So get off your high horse. Poland was as aggressive as Nazi Germany and the USSR but didn't have the military capability to realize their grand scheme. Their diplomacy with Lithuania prior to WW2 says a thing or two as well.

+John You guys act like Britain and the US wanted the USSR to take Poland. I don't think I have to tell you how unpopular communism was in the US and Churchill hated communism. Churchill is the last person you should blast for not saving Poland because he inadvertently wanted to.
