the problem is the concentration of production. for example the netherlands. about 80 procent of it's land mass is agricultural, however we also export 80 procent of the yield. this shows that atleast our farmers are not required for national demand, rather for global demand.

After consultation and receiving assurances the wording of the ammendment was rewritten and was passed at a second referendum. The Irish government were in favour of the Treaty but were required to amend the Constitution. How exactly did this involve the EU who cannot impose a vote on a member state.

After consultation and being given concessions, Denmark voted in favour of the revised proposal. This is how a modern democracy functions. The Irish Constitution requires amendment to accept EU Treaties. The Irish voted against the proposed amendments. In both cases the amendment was reworded to be acceptable to the electorate. In both cases the Irish government was in favour of accepting the Treaty. The EU does not require member states to hold a vote/referendum. How did they force another vote? In all stated cases the electorate were not voting on the same proposal. Note the EU did not change the wording as the original proposals were the work of the member states governments.
