The animal keepers at the RZSS carry out regular training sessions with many of our animals. Caring for large mammals such as polar bears has its challenges, and training, such as in this video, allows for regular health checks to be conducted with minimal fuss or stress for the animal. It also provides a source of valuable enrichment. Walker is currently the only polar bear in a UK Zoo.

I finally, happily, found this video after searching Google asking if they used a real polar bear. All I kept getting was crap about its symbolism which a) I already know and b) was not my question! So I asked about polar bear training and found this fascinating video about using color taps to check claws and training him to open his mouth to check teeth safely. Brilliant!!❤

Is the polar bear friendly with his handlers or it is till dangerous to directly handle?
