Part of a series of bear safety videos produced by the Safety in Bear Country Society (SIBCS) in cooperation with the International Association for Bear Research and Management (IBA). This program contains important information on how to reduce your chance of encountering a polar bear and how to respond appropriately if you do meet a bear. This video was a collaborative effort of the SIBCS with Inuit Elders and others knowledgeable about staying safe in polar bear country. Live, travel, and work safely in polar bear country with this practical advice.

Is this advice current? Saw in credits it was produced in 2005 but footage looks like it was shot in the early 90s. Recent research has come out by Tom Smith on effectiveness of bear spray and guns, for example. Thanks Parks Canada!

Do not rely on bear spray. May be it is efficient against brown/grizzly bears, but not polar in real (always windy) Arctic conditions.

Mountain Grizzly/ Inland Grizzly are much more aggressive than Polar Bear...Polar Bears have given up carcasses to Grizzly,,on land Grizzly is king..also a pack of wolves will send both Grizzly and Polar Bear running for cover.. Mr Wolf 🐺 will eat Polar bear cubs.. An Orca will drown a Polar bear in minutes...Orcas rule the sea...

Pet a Siberian tiger as a dog ,best way

A polar bear will simply kill the siberian tiger with one swipe and then will eat both the pet and owner.

@@spectacledbear2431 u have no idea about tiger ,kid. Study more , don't judge any book by it's cover and don't judge tiger by it's size.Tiger's claws and canines are bigger and sharper than bear ,tiger is more aggressive and dangerous martial artist ,tiger can kill anything which is 5 times bigger than him ! So don't underestimate any big cat specially tiger .Bear is like a bulky water tank and coward.Even it is afraid of a shepherd dog .
