Polar Roll 2020 Full Fat Bike Race
This is the 2020 Polar Roll Fat bike Race up in the U.P. of Michigan. The race crossed 40 miles from Marquette to Ishpeming on bike paths, groomed trails, snowmobile trails, and roads. The quality of the video is not the greatest do to the length of the video and KZfaq restrictions. I will post this video in fast motion as well a a shortened come race with me version. If you can't get out and fat bike and are stuck in side on the trainer, watch this!
There may be some language and anger in the video. I did crash, I was mad, and was also frustrated at people not letting others pass. So I apologize about some of the language ahead of time.

Hey Rob, I enjoyed riding with you vicariously! I'm 70 and still ride my road bike in North Carolina but I really got a chance to see what it's like with you in the Fat tire bike race. I enjoyed it a lot and watched the whole race, although over a 4 day period. It's much better than the stuff on TV these days!

As an 80's BMX'er and a 90's MTB'er I am blow away at how fast you can push your fat bike on snow. I can't get to those speeds on mine on dry, windless pavement. I don't know your age, but I am flabbergasted by the endurance! Nice job! (I put this race on a projector covering an entire wall and ride along vicariously as you.) *

Look them up online, we have a lot of fatty races in Michigan and I know they do in other places that get snow in the winter

What a great race! Sincere respect from Russia. Fatbiking culture has been slowly reaching our country for the past several years, think it should become something big in the future since you know how bad our roads are, lol! So fatties should be quite relevant here, I assume. Quality components (frames and tyres) are costly and sometimes hard to find, but market will somehow regulate itself with time.

@@BikeLifewithRob Thanks! FYI Surly ICT, for instance, currently costs around $5000+ here. Well, everything US-made costs a ton of money usually, so we have to mostly improvise and make custom bikes.

I'm assuming you do this everyday... My last bike seemed super hard to pedal regular mountain bike... I'm 6'1 350 ish and considering one of these are they better suited for big guys?

Fat bikes are better suited for riding snow and sand! Hope that helps.

Rob, what was your setup? Especially frame and tire-width 4.0s or 4.8s? Same front/back? What about psi? Good work on the race and the video!

Salsa Beargrease, Jumbo Jims 4.0 on front and back, not the best tire in the snow but I don't race fatties, just ride! I had 4 psi in the front and 6 psi in the back. THANKS!

It’s better when it’s not so cold with a headwind. If you dress right it’s all good. The day after this race we spent over 3 hours riding some really awesome trails.
