Very interesting seeing a known band using a midlevel kit. Goes to show you, all those midlevel drums like superstars, stagecustoms, armory, catalinas...they all do the job. They just need good heads, good tuning (like any drum).

Another great rundown! Funny enough, yellow kit with the show's logo at the end of the video is a Pearl Decade maple kit! How do I know that? I have the exact same kit, great sound for not much money, I gig every weekend with it and it is rock solid!

I like coated snaresides on my snares. If I didn't concert out my racks and use rotos on my smaller toms, I would go for a 2 ply or coated on their resos too.

Never thought to run coated heads on all the drums including the bass drum…🤔 I’ll bet it cuts down on any needed muffling and probably gives the bass a nice punch.

I run my bass drum like a concert tom, no reso head, and have one kit coated, one kit clear. I will say, the coated gives a darker tone with less overtone, but a clear head with an outer edge underlay, like the Powerstroke P3 is the best of both worlds. Killer punch and no need for muffling...for my liking anyhow!

A Maple shell is a Maple shell dude, price isn't everything. I've been using my Yamaha Stage Custom Birch kit for gigging with no issues or complaints, while my Yamaha Absolute Hybrid Maple kit sits home in my studio. As for you Pearl drummers out there, those Decade Maple kits are fantastic def nothing to be ashamed about, just invest in a couple $300 snares if you can and you're good to go.
