This video was alot of help! Thx. I purchased a set of $10 16ft. 10gauge jumper cables from Harbor Freight and copper terminal lugs to do this.

What gauge wire are you using?

Ok, my question though is I have a light bar mounted....I bought another rocker switch, made my cut out in the panel to put the switch in place. Now obviously, I don't want that light on all the time so how do I wire in that rocker switch to the power panel under the hood like your showing there.....my Ranger 900 has that same power panel under the hood. Light bar has a hot and ground. Do I go direct to battery with those, or to a post under the hood and then take that ground to the frame someplace, then wire the switch to the same hot post under the hood the light hot went to???? I can experiment but was hoping for the short answer here?

My 2023 Ranger came with the wire hooked to the middle post. I am wondering if this is incorrect or if something has changed. I can’t seem to find anything in the owner’s manual. Of course I was working on it on Sunday and no one was open.

What is the length of wire needed?
@MarkKratzMC Жыл бұрын
I just purchased a ranger 570 it came with a bus bar. There is a wire connected to the center post of the bus bar. What you said about it always comes with a wire connected to the top Post is not true. It could vary from Dealer to Dealer, depending on who prepped it. The wire to mine is black, so I don’t know what it goes to. According to the directions for the bus bar wiring kit made by Polaris. The keyed/switch circuit should go to the top post like yours. Ground is in the middle and always hot on the bottom. Anyway, it should be as you stated, but it’s not always the case.

What did you do to secure/keep wire from rubbing where drive shaft is?

I zip tie it to the wire harness.

Hello, my Ranger Crew already has the bus bar with the connections directly to battery for black and red, and accessory wire connected to top pole. I'm wanting to connect my newly installed winch to this bar instead of directly to battery so the winch only operates when ignition is on. I assume I go from winch controller red to accessory bar pole, and black to black bar pole, correct? Thanks.
@montemania1982102 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct. The power wire for controller goes to acc terminal on buss bar. The solenoid you’ll put the red to red and black to black on buss bar.

I have a 2015 Ranger 900 that has the hot bus bar under the hood as well. I put my winch on soon as I bought the machine and really can't remember the wiring of it all, but I thought I took my ground to the frame down close to the winch mounted spot, and then the winch hot wire to that bus bar. Either way the switch controls the winch as it should. Now i'm trying to figure the correct way to wire in a light bar so it's also switch controlled? I think it should work the same way....find an external ground for my light and my switch and take a hot wire from each to that bus bar???

What is guage of wire?

You should have fused the yellow cable at the battery. This would keep you from burning your vehicle to the ground should the cable ground out.
@montemania1982102 жыл бұрын
That’s a good idea however is overkill and unnecessary, machine is not going to burn to the ground 😂 Appreciate the comment.

@@montemania198210 I just did the same job using a 4 gauge amp wiring kit. It came with a 120 amp fuse so I was able to wire it safely.

@@WeSRT4 glad to hear you’ve taken a extra precaution on your machine. May want to install a fuse on starter circuit since that’s not protected from factory. Always love sharing different ideas.

@@montemania198210 It’s within about the same distance from the battery as my inline fuse. The point is that when you run long distances the possibility of a short increases exponentially. FYI I’m an old car stereo and security installer. MECP certified and taken electronics courses. Food for thought…. Your machine.

@@WeSRT4 thanks for all the great thoughts. Was thinking you may have something going here and reach out to the atv manufacturers and winch companies, cause I know all their kits have no fuses for the power wire that usually run from the back of the machine all the way to the front of machine. You should reach out to them cause this is the exact procedure that Polaris does it. Totally understand where you’re coming from, I’m a full ASE certified master mechanic and been working on atvs since 1995. Trust me I’ve found plenty of better ways of doing stuff over the years compared to how manufacturers do it. I will definitely suggest fuse on my next winch install video.

Why would you not just run the negative wire straight to the battery?
@montemania1982102 жыл бұрын
You can put it at battery. I prefer the ground at chassis location. Mainly because I hate messing with the battery terminal bolts and nuts, one less to mess with lol.

?????? No main line fuse????wow. Fire hazard

I understand your concern and it’s a good idea. However it’s no different than running winch wiring or the starter wires.
